Subject: Another Khornate blog - A Lord and his Terminators. Daemonic Dreadnought
|
 |
Insect-Infested Nurgle Chaos Lord
|
About two years too late I begin my Chaos Daemon army, the new Chaos kits offer a variety of kitbashing options that are too tempting to pass up. I've been inspired by various Khorne themed blogs, as well as the Dark Mechanicus blogs floating around (you know who you are!) so wanted to try my hand at creating a monstrosity of my own.
I can't really sculpt to save myself, so most if not all of my conversions turn out to be kitbashes with some crude and aggressive clipper work.
The first offering for the Blood God; A SoulgrinderSkullgrinder. I love the Soulgrinder kit, but it's static pose upsets me slightly. With a little help from a Forgefiend and a Blood Throne i've been able to build something fairly vicious looking that represents Khornes unending rage.

The idea behind the mandibles is that they are used to "load" the gun with fallen enemies, the blood and gore fueling the daemon engine and driving it forward with a ceaseless hunger for more flesh, blood and ,of course, skulls.
I used both hades autocannons as I see this monstrosity just constantly firing, saturating the field with shells... suppressing the enemy for it's final assault.
Cheers for looking.

The footsoldiers of the Blood God need a general. I threw together some Bloodletters just to show the sheer size of this guy. He's a monster, and that's him hunched over. Legs required some minimal bending, couldn't quite get him to stand straight, however the driving forward/howling a challenge pose works well in my mind.
With a bellow of ceaseless rage, the Herald leads its Bloodletters along the path of glorious slaughter.

After looking at my Skullgrinder I decided that it was a bit too vague in depicting what it was. I was aiming for Soulgrinder/Defiler easy cross over with perhaps the option to run it as a Forgefiend.
I've chosen to make it a single purpose model, a Forgefiend with Hades Autocannons and additional Ectoplasma Cannon. That also means the shift towards Khornate CSM, away from Daemons.
I'm not overly fond of the original Forgefiend, like many, but I do think it had some excellent bits. Being made primarily out of a Soulgrinder means that it stand a little taller than a Forgefiend, but this could not be avoided as I needed to raise it to get it to fit on the base and be relatively stable.
You'll note that one of the legs is missing as the Soulgrinder kit only comes with five regular legs I'm going to pick up another leg at some point.
Forgefiend - Gore Bringer Pattern.
While the Gore Bringer is designed around the Defiler chasis it lacks it's unholy strength. To compensate for this Gore Bringers are imbued with Khorne's most fervent desire to mete out savagry, reducing it's enemies to naught but ragged pieces of flesh.

This is awesome! Looking forward to more. Loving the Gote Bringer name and how did you make the general Bloodletter? He looks great as well.

Thanks man, a great compliment coming from one of the Masters of Khornate modelling!
For the name I was originally going to go for Sluaghterfiend but apparently that's already a thing. (Berzerker riding a Defiler, can't really get more 40k can it? )
The Bloodletter general is just the one from the skull cannon kit, I used the kit for the mouthpiece on the Gorebringer. You just need to warm up and bend his legs very slightly. I also removed the chain on the left hand and reeplaced it with a smaller sword from the regular bloodletter kit. Oh and I also removed the beard/jowl horns as I thought they made the head a bit busy.

Great looking model mate. I'll have to look at that kit when I start my daemon allies.

Picked up some bits and a couple of kits to make another Gore Bringer (Forgefiend). The plan is over time to pick up some chains, skulls and greenstuff to fill in the details of my over zealous chopping.
I still think while slightly large it represents a Forgefiend better without the defiler claws.

So after getting some inspiration from Brother SRM's thread I had a rumage around my bits box. My original plan was to try and convert up some more Dark Vengeance marines like the two below.
They aren't original conversions as similar things have been done before, but I thought I'd share.
After being unable to replicate the above pictured marines I began my prowl of the intertubes, which eventually led me to Infiltraitor's blog here on dakka. It's a true scale blog I could really get behind as it requires only kitbashing and snipping of clippers! I like the way his marines look, but I wasn't convinced by the smaller arms and seeing as Chaos Terminator arms appear to just have more armour bolted on to regular PA, I felt that they didn't look too ridiculous. The plan is really to use the old berzerker hands in future conversions the chap below is really just a proof of concept. I like the way he turned out, let me know what you think. Thanks again to InfTRAITOR for his "how to" in his blog.

Your "Gore Bringers" are very cool! I like them a lot more than the stock model, which really doesn't have the oomph to me (it ends up looking like a daemon body stuck on some mechanical legs... ugh). Can't wait to see how you're going to paint them
And if you're being inspired by the Dark Mechanicus thread I think you are, you choose your inspirations well . Nice start so far!

Thanks man. Hopefully I'll get them painted at some point. Student priorities distract me from hobby spending somewhat, so a lot of what I do is slow burn and fragmented.
There's a lot of inspiration to be found on Dakka, I wouldn't credit one particular thread over the others. There's some excellent stuff going on among these boards!

Dreadnought looks awesome buddy. I love the stance you've achieved. I also really like the Brute heads on Termi bodies. I hadn't thought of trying that but they lend themselves really well to the look. Keep it up!

Thanks guys. I'm very happy with the stance and it in general. It actually looks a bit like one of the spawn stances the more I look at it.
The Dreadnought heads would probably be good if you plan to build up some Nurgle Terminators.
