So I frequent dakka. I decided to go Tau (before reading the rules, as opposed to jumping on).
A lot of people hate Tau (which i find kind of ironic considering their mantra) anyway we're not here to discuss that.

Reading a thread about a Necron list with loads of flyers and just thinking, "and people hate Tau."

I think that people need to seriously reconsider, and actually like Tau.
Reason
Compared to a list with a bastion hiding a single dude in the corner and 8 flyers i think 3 riptides or whatever is a walk in the park.
Not only that but we have some of the only means to prevent this atrocity of a list from being as common any more.

Think about it:
1. the warlord cant hide, we have units that can fire without line of sight (SMS)
2. we have units that can move fast enough and are able jump into that little space where he's hiding, (riptide generator with 4d6" jump)
3. we have lots of skyfire

I think Tau should at least get some love for preventing the bakery of doom.

I think you miss the problem. The point is that now people that play against Necrons also have to worry about Tau as well. As you said, Tau have plenty of options to take down warlords, including cheap Precision shot broadsides and markerlights to ignore cover saves. Their firepower really changes a lot of how the games were played and it makes it hard for players to adjust.

But it's also not really preventing Necrons from doing any of the things Necrons do. They still get plenty of cheap flyers that don't suffer drawbacks from being flying transports. They still have plenty of good units that are actually a decent match for Tau with their TAC lists. So there is no reason for Necron players to stop playing what they already bring.

This is silly, the Tau are utilitarian with a bit of confucianism and Indian caste system thrown in.

Yeah your probably right.

Although i'd rather work toward the greater good of all than be a zealous brain washed puppet of a xenophobic dictator.

I think I understand why everyone hate Tau now though.
It probably stems from the stupidly irrational hatred of communism that all democracies have.

I did often wonder why there was such an irrational hatred for Tau.

Anyway this thread kinda went awry very quickly. I was trying to encourage some Tau love.

I think people still have enough reasons to dislike Tau. The biggest, in my opinion, is that any decent Tau list can absolutely destroy t\he majority of assault and foot lists.Obviously this isn't 100 percent true, I mean Khorne Dog lists, and other well crafted assault lists can still do damage, but a lot of lists and armies basically move their units two turns and die to a gunline of Tau that just roll dice. I think that the new Tau codex kind of embodies the shootiness of 6th edition and the people that dislike that fact hate Tau for doing it so well.
My personal reason for disliking, not hating, Tau is because I play older codex armies and they haven't gotten their stupid Monstrous creatrue bs. I'm not a fan of Riptides, Wraithknights, Helldrakes etc, but thats just my opinion, and not all Tau lists even use Riptide. I do like Tau for making the game competitive and having awesome models, .

I always press dat, if you know what I mean.

As someone whose father was born in and absolutely enamored with the Soviet Union I like to think I'm familiar with Communism. What the Tau follow fits into no major branch of Communism or indeed even Socialism. Rather the greater good from what can be gleaned is best described as Utilitarianism through a somewhat Confucianist lens.

Ah but the problem you have here is, the thread you are referring to was recently necro'd from about 6 months ago before 6th edition got fully into the swing of things. Necron Bakery, was a flash in the pan, skys falling kind of thing, until most codex's got Skyfire/Interceptor, either through their own updates and/or Allies. So now until the answer to Tau comes out, you get the hate. And this is the way of the world

...and just saying: Necrons are the only 6th codex so far, iirc, with no Skyfire. Seeing the cost of Heavy Destroyers, they should totally have Skyfire and Interceptor.

I like the Tau in the new book. They FINALLY play like the high tech shooty specialzied army they've always been described as, but never really were. Tau is pretty much the only type of army in the game I've never made one of. If prices weren't so stupid these days I might consider it, but no new armies for me anymore.

Thing is, their only weakness (CC) has been countered. Thus, they are invincible killing machines.

Yeah, like I say to everyone who says Tau suck in close-combat, I argue that they are now one of the best armies in the close-combat phase.

No one cried cheese on 'Nids lol

But, every codex changes the game, as it should. If the "best army list" only changed with editions, this game would suck.

But, I resent the lack of Crons nowadays. It just so happens that Tyranids murder crons, so I want that back in the meta.

This is patently wrong, considering the fact that they can field a viable competitive army consisting of nothing but Zooming fliers which, by definition, have Skyfire.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

People hate playing tau for the same reason they hate playing against most IG players.

Because sitting through a 30 minute turn 1 shooting phase does not a fun game make.
