Hi guys,

I am recently getting back into 40k after about a year off. Been reading the 6th edition rules to get up to speed.

From an army perspective, i decided its finally time to stop being lazy and to get my models into a respectable state and get them painted. I am working now on WYSIWYG (to a reasonable degree).

Anyways, I play guard. Infantry come equipped with frag grenades by default, which i believe are the double pineapple grenades that come as bits with the troops.

I am curious what you guys do to model krak grenades, demolition charges and melta bombs.

I know that there are metal Catachan demolitions models available so thats one avenue for that, but would love to be able to get something in bit form to give to Cadians etc.

Thanks for any help.

I don't think anyone would complain about you not having krak grenades on your models (unless they are a real nazi)

As far as demo charges go you could strap some of the loose rockets/mortar shells together from the heavy weapons team and use them as an a hastily thrown-together improvised demo charge. If you have any Catchan vox units lying about they could be turned into satchal charges.
Or if you want to stick to just the Cadian troops box, the grenade launcher ammo satchel could also be an unpacked demo charge.

Dunno about melta bombs though... Nothing springing to mind aside from steal some from a Marine kit or buy them from bitz sites/ebay.

Marine krak grenades are the same size as Guard frags and could be used, but mostly grenades are a small detail that isn't really required if the bits are hard to track down. Marine melta bombs could also be used. For demo charges you could sculpt up some simple satchels maybe? Or get some narrow guage plastic tubes and bundle small lengths together for a more dynamite style look?

I use these bits for grenade and charged from forgeworld:

Demo charges along the middle and the little ones as the krak grenades for differentiation, it adds a little more character to a model

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions!

I am not worried about the wysiwyg for competition or my opponent, more for my own enjoyment. I really love (for some reason) being able to field a model that looks like its geared exactly as Ive upgraded it.

Great idea on the demo charges, didnt even think of doing satchel charges. That could be the "cadian" version.

I will have to look up which marine kit has meltas, I wasnt aware of this.

Thanks again guys.

Marine kits have Krak too. They look like smooth grenade with a ring around the middle. You can see three of them in the picture posted by Melcavuk They are just under the frag grenades and above the melta-bombs in the bottom right. Again they come in marine kits and are fairly abundant.

I always used the pineapples as frags, the smoke grenades as krak (seeing as they don't actually have smoke grenades) and the large round belt pocket as a melta bomb.

I'm pretty sure the kit comes with krak grenades. They are the smooth round ones with a single line across the middle. At least in the catachan box they are. I used the mortar team hands that were holding a rocket as demo charges. I also bought the metal catachan demo dudes because that's the faction I play, but if you want something more cadian, look into building it from vox's and space marine bits.

you could greenstuff the pineapple grenades and run a smal

You could smooth down the grenade too with the blunt edge of a knife. As long as the grenade looks different, right?

As for Demo charges, I like to use the mortar round bits. I never use mortars as HWTs and I think the idea of infantry throwing shells at guys to blow them to bit is very cool.
