Hi all,

My wife doesn't have a Dakka account so when I carted DV into the house she got to it before me (and it was my birthday present no less to myself!) and cherry picked all the cool bitz for herself to paint. She settled on the Hellbrute first and she has since finished it. She went for an Alpha Legion paint scheme and is more than happy with it. She hopes you all enjoy the pics and any C+C would be fabulous!

A paintjob so well done makes the base look pretty dull although theres nothing wrong with it...
The glossy parts look awesome!

Very well done! Awesome paint job. I love the "fleshy" parts.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

That is one of the best renditions of that model I've seen.
It actually really looks like raw flesh is growing over and into the metal parts, and the blue/greens of the armour are beautiful!
The base could have been a little more exciting, but I have no idea what!

I think it captured the feel of the Alpha Legion paint scheme very well.

Its definitely the bloodiest Hellbrute I've seen, and I think it adds to the model a fair bit. The only thing I'd say is its very glossy, personally I prefer the matte route. I presume its a by product of using washes but each to their own if you prefer it that way.

How did she do the flesh? I'm weighing up colours for my 2 brutes and I really like this more natural looking flesh to daemonic reds/greens that I see quite often.

The glossiness is prob cos the satin varnish was still wet. That might tone down.

The flesh was tallarn flesh washed with thrakka green and drybrushed with rakkarth flesh. Her idea was to have it look dead.

Superb!

I'm guessing that you've left the rest of the DV box lying around for when your wife fancies painting up the rest of it!

We'll find out soon enough eh.

That is frakking grotesque, and I mean that as a compliment!

I love the flesh, particularly the pilot's face, it looks like he's been skinned, and the transitions are lovely.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Icky, in a good way. The head/maw has a real 'vagina dentata' look to it with that gloss varnish. Am I allowed to say that on this forum?

That looks awesome. She's a really good painter! I would just watchout for the mold line/gap (whatever it is) on the gun hand. I would also try to do something else for the base.

This is a great job. To improve it for me I would either give the eyes pupils or make them look like gem stone's. I would give the head a lighter highlight so it stands out more after the gloss and against the teeth. And the base could be added to. Even some static grass would improve it massively. These are minor niggles which bug me and just reflect my taste for painting mini's

The base annoys me too! I have a few things to add to it which I'm working on. I want to add some gore to the fist as well.
The face and surrounding "flesh" I wanted to give a freshly flayed look so I left it as is.

I love it!!
I saw you mentioned the model halves not being fastened well, I prefer Testors metal tipped plastic model glue. I think it has the most precise applicator and is a big help with small bits.
