I've been building my IG as Cadians but I have yet to find a regiment number for them. I'd like it if their number was mentioned in a Black Library novel or some other canon fluff, as then I could read the book and have the army, or so to speak.

Does anyone have any ideas for fluff-related regiment markings?

IIRC the regiment number, ie, The Cadian 101st, just notes that they are the 101st batch of recruits from Cadia, so really any number is fluffy.

Usually I don't recommend the wikis due to their adoption and intermingling of conflicting sources, but since you already said you'd also be fine with non-Codex fluff such as novels and such, that list should have you covered. If the source links are in order, you'll also be able to quickly find the book where you can read more about the regiment you end up picking.

The 88th Cadian Mechanized fought off plague zombies, some white shields, had plasma weapons mentioned, as well as Valkyries, a few storm troopers, and only one commissar if you want to go for that. They had gray fatigues and black armor.

the 5050th Cadian shock regiment..the fifty fifties...kinda like vegas odds.

You could just make them the Emperors Finest - The 501st. Do that and every Star Wars nerd in the store will glare at you.

Didn't Cadia retire 1-7 for regiment numbers? I thought the lowest infantry regiment they had was 8.

I swear, that number goes around a lot these days. Even Motoko Kusanagi was a member.

Call them the 10th which in real world history were the personal army of Augustus Cesar and after we're noted to be the most brutal and harsh legion in the roman army but the were also most loyal even after the fall of Rome it's said that members of the 10th legion who weren't killed went to serve the easter Roman Empire ( Byzantium ) or Became founders of some of the noble families of Europe. So you could put a twist saying they were the emperors personal guard before the thunder warriors and they were known to have a history going back to the days of ancient terra. Hope that helps :-)

That wouldn't work as Cadia wasn't rediscovered untill the Word Bearers went sniffing around the Eye of Terror in The First Heretic.

The Cadian 8th is the only one I know of. My first thought was the Cadian 69th, but that might be a bad call...

GW included 501st insignias in the IG decal set that comes with all the models...

If you named them the "Emperor's Fist" (not the Imperial Fists) you would be even more in line with the original 501st Stormtrooper Legion (Vader's Fist).

Your Regiment's name depends on what your interested in I guess. When I finally get round to starting up my IG regiment I'm gonna name them the '5th Royal Vitorian Fusiliers' - an amalgamation of my own county's regiment, The 5th Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (Well, they're now 1st Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers but hey ho), and a play on words of Vitoria - one of the Duke of Wellington's famous victories.

If you are interested in Canadian military history, and you're willing to go outside the bounds of fluff, then you could proxy in a Canadian (Or British, since Canada names many of it's regiments along British lines) regiment name and number, but 40K it up. Something like: 'The Emperor's Own Cadian Foot Guards'

But if your dead set on just a number then I guess any would do...

So ? Give them a awesome number like that to be fair the cadia may not have been found yet but the imperial army had been around since the unification wars on terra

Pick a number that when you pronounce it along with your army title, sounds decent to you.

Ex of numbers that sound good to me-
Twenty-Seventh Cadian.
Five-hundred and First Cadian.
Eighty-Second Cadian.
Hundred and First Cadian.


Lame sounding numbers:
Sixty-ninth Cadian?
Twenty-fifth Cadian.
