Hello all,

I have a few AOBR dreads laying around and decided to have a go at converting one. My work in process is shown below. The legs and the groin are already glued and green-stuffed in place. The arms and body are blue-tacked in place for now. I think I like the pose, but I was looking for some second opinions. Also, what do you guys think the power fist should be doing? I'm torn between just clasped closed and holding a chaos SM head and torso... Any input or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

-Cliff

While it does work, I'm not a huge fan of the shooting in the air pose.

If you decide to crush a chaos marine, I'd move the powerfist up, so that's the primary focus of the model. Give him the attention he deserves.

If you close the fist, I'd lower the MM, so it's in line with the vision slit. So you get a "I'm bracing on this rock to elevate my firing angle to snap shot at a flyer" vibe.

Do you want him to portray his shooting or CC side?

Either way, looking good.

He looks very triumphant, if that's what you we're going for then I would say to keep it as is. I personally really like it

Love the pose. Normally they look so squat and dumpy, you made it look very dynamic.

That is very cool. Nice work.

Due to the pose the front plate of the dread will be the main focus. Really give a good paint job there, I have seen many spend time on making the vision slit glow.

Any way to extend the fist? The fingers on it look stubby for some reason.

Want to add anything to that big flat-top? It is a chance to paint a big picture or mount something interesting.

Great pose and dynamic looking, great work! The above were the only things I could comment on.

The fist is actually missing the fingers at the moment. I wanted to get an idea of what I wanted there before making a blue tack mess.

Any suggestions for what I could put on the top? Like a banner or something?

I'd look to reaplacing the power fist with the hand from the ven dread [it looks much better].

I agree the Ven fist looks more realistic. Funny enough I have a Ven I need to finish too..

Also, I was thinking of doing another like this, but with his foot either on an Ork bike with the Knob in his fist or with the foot on an Eldar jetbike with the Eldar rider in his fist. Either vehicles would have damage for where they were shot with the MM. Which do you guys think would look better?

Banners look a bit skimpy on those things (thought FW ones are over the top).

Some picture or mural:

Maybe smoke launchers:

Some use the chaos vehicle half-turret-spikey-bit as an iron halo on top.

Something anyway.

If you want his power fist to look more like a hand why not put three fingers next to each other instead of the equal distance he normally has.

And i agree that if you want to place a chaos marine in his fist you should change his arm pose. He looks in a more idle stand either after or before a battle. A smashed marines in his hand wouldn't fit with that. But you could add some chaos marine corpses on his base. Like if he is standing victorius on the battlefield over his crushed enemies after the battle is won.

And what you could add to change his profile a bit is to extend his exhaust pipes with some additional tubes. This way he wouldn't look so boxy.

I LOVE that dread. I think I might try that myself. I'd love to see more.

Looks Good. But, the only thing that nags at me is the close combat weapon. It doesn't have the finger's one it.

I actually like the pose as it is because it looks victorious. Depending on your modelling skill, you might think of adding some smoke to the MM to signify that it's recently been shot (thus justifying the victory pose).
I'd also add some purity seals or scrolls to the fron of the dread to add some character.

If you could modify the melta's duel barrel to be a bit longer, it might add more to the heroic look. That, and maybe a large knife/bayonet under the power fist for extra badassery.

Hi,

If you wanna crush something in that arm, it should be up, the melta should be down.

If you recall dawn of war 1 the dreadnoughts in that would grab an enemy and hold him up before the victim went crunch. Then he would throw it away.

The chaos iron halo pic is fab. I'd try and add a bit of iconography or a banner. What army is he gonna be painted in as there might be a custom banner for him knocking around.

And the easiest way to add a bit of bling to him is to get some scrollwork or freehand on the left side of the sarcophagus. A 0.005mm pen is a godsend.

For the Lion and Terra!

Because nothing in the galaxy is black and white, Mankind views the Space Marines as a last resort. The last line. When all else fails. They take up the burden. The noble defenders of Mankind. The last hope.
