Any other X files out there?
20 years ago today it premiered and still fights with Star Trek TNG as my fav TV show of all time.
Sure it lost its way after season 5 and some of the earlier episodes were poorly written but season 1-4 in general were just golden TV.
Happy birthday Mulder and Scully.

Ah, happy birthday indeed! I remember watching that show all the time as a youngin' with my mom, and the episode with the glowing bugs that would come out at dark and kill people scared the gak out of me! I'll never forget it haha. But after rewatching it on Netflix, you're right; it's really good up to Season 5, and then goes downhill

Happy Birthday X-Files!!! I have that poster in my bedroom. As my username implies, I BELIEVE. This is one of my all-time favorite shows. CGB Spender is also one of the best villains in history imo.

I loved it up to season 5, wasn't fond of 6 but 7 was alright. the less said about seasons 8 and 9 the better. But despite that remains one of my favourite TV shows of all time.

Absolutely brilliant show, happy memories of watching it as a teenager.
Eventually they did run out of ideas (thought both of the films, especially the second one, were pretty poor) - went downhill after you actually saw the aliens, and the last few seasons were so dark I could barely even make out what was happening on the screen
Everyone's best episode?
Guess I would have to go with the 'Edward Tooms' one, that ended with him looking to one side when in the prison cell, and the camera then slowly zooming in on the small food-tray slit that he is looking at..

I've been watching it on Netflix for a while now, just doing an episode here and there. I never watched the show till the last couple seasons so most of it is all new to me. It's fun seeing everyone so young, with big cellphones.

Edward? I thought it was Eugene?
I was born in '94, so i never watched them while they were on TV, but my parents did. I saw one, maybe two episodes as a kid, they terrified me. Every now and then, i'd be in bed and hear my parents watching it. Just the theme tune was enough to scare me to sleep
A few years ago, i grew a pair and got the VHS's (Yes, VHS) down from the shelf and made my way through all of them. I loved them, none the less. It actually made me laugh to think i was afraid of it
As for favorite episode? Couldn't put my finger on one. But the one where they make a film about moulder and scully's job, made me chuckle. Purely based on cheese factor

One of my favorite scenes was when Scully was talking about how advanced technology was becoming, even noting that we "started mapping the human genome!"...which was completed, back in early 2000's? Haha. Another favorite episode was the one where the guy could squeeze/crawl through anything - small windows, air ducts, ect. Suuuuuper creepy. Or the worm guy that lived in the sewer system! Yuck. Another is the episode with Jack Black...with the kid that can control lightening. Ah, so many moster/mutant episodes to choose from. Edit - Ah, the guy's name was Eugene Tooms. I forgot he escaped from prison, so we're talking about the same guy . Looks like I know what I'm going to re-watch after I finish BSG.

Unfortunately I think the show had already peaked in quality by the 5th season, but there are still some good episodes here and there; like Dreamland in season 6.
I credit the X-Files with setting my distrust of government's handling of national security

I watched the pilot episode of this show, and fell in love with it from the get-go. When they did "Humbug," the episode with the circus sideshow, I knew they'd found the missing element. (The humorous episodes that they sprinkled in every now and then.) Such a great show.

Favorite Ep: Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man. As my fav character in the show, that episode was a GODSEND when I was first watching the series. I was dying for more information on him, and I watched that episode like three times so I wouldn't forget a thing.

The monster-of-the-week episodes from the first three or four seasons were nothing less than brilliant. That show could have easily been one of the all-time greatest pieces of TV had it not been for the black-oil and conspiracy theories that a small yet vocal minority of fans demanded following Gillian Anderson's maternity leave.

Considering that the two main actors didn't like each other, it was a marvel that it even got through those first 5 'good' seasons.
I'm waiting for September 17, personally.

I'm totally 4 on the floor with Azazel - the MOTW episodes were consistently where the show shined. The overlying story arcs went from back to awful as the show progressed.
