I'm this month's army of the month showcase. I'm so proud right now I could burst.
Hope you liked my Ultramarines in the magazine. The photo the WD guys set up of my thunderhawk blew me away when i saw it.

Good for you, it's well deserved.
This rate you'll wind up working for them ....
.... hope you can take that sort of pay cut
Could you elaborate a wee bit for us as to how this actually happens and works out ? Thanks.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

I think the OP already works for GW? The article in question mentions fielding his army 'alongside loads of the customers' Ultramarines', which I assume means he works in the store.

Nope. I don't work for Games Workshop. I worked for Thurrock GW for 7 weeks when I was inbetween jobs around 4 years ago. This huge battle mentioned in White Dwarf happened after my stint as a GW employee and was an idea I had, so i approached the manager and he loved the idea.

Yeah, I think you're right. I remember a few months ago when I reviewed a particular issue of WD, this guy piped in and said GW is great because they showcased my army, and then he proceeded to shoot down every point I made in my review, even though it was a pretty balanced review. It's his right to disagree with me on anything, but the poster is definitely a GW employee in my view. Again, nothing wrong with that except when people claim not to be biased towards GW.

Bias, or i just really like the hobby. Clearly I'm getting a lot more out of it then others and my enjoyment is plain to see.
Haters going hate. Real shame they can't just be pleased for a fellow hobbyist who has worked hard to achieve a lifetime goal. Maybe I'm featured in White Dwarf because I have a big feth off army painted to a good standard and I approached WD with it. No conspiracy theories it's as simple as that.

This is dakka, GW hate is the default mode! Seriously, well done for getting your pics in WD. I know some people can be venomous to GW, but there are legitimate reasons for this. For example, 5 dire avengers for £20 when you where getting 10 for the same price only a few weeks before, seriously miffed a lot of people. That's one good example. But, we're getting OT here, so back OT. Congrats for getting your army in WD, but please remember, some people have legitimate grievances against GW.

No agenda here - I simply thought the OP was a GW employee based on the way the article was worded. Employee discount would certainly explain having such a huge collection but having achieved that as a general punter is perhaps even more of an achievement! It's a well painted army with good attention to detail so congrats on getting it into WD.

I'm pretty sure that you're the same Gareth who used to post over at Tau Online before that site went gak.
If you are, I gotta say you deserve the spotlight. I remember when you started posting over on TO, it must have been some 5 years ago or some such. I was so blown away I always kept an eye out for your stuff. In my gaming group you have always been known as "that crazy guy from TO with the Ultramarines"
I vividly remember the picture of your Ultra Marine army (many thousand points) where every closeup showed display level painting.
Congrats on the feature mate, might pick up the WD just to see it

Yeah I used to post over on Tau Online. I think most forums have gone to gak now which is a shame. The level of negativity on forums is draining and most of the mods are power hungry rules enforcers (not Reds8n, he's cool). I tend to post on the Tale of Painters blog the most, occasionally I'll post one of the big forums like dakka if i have something cool to share with the community.

Might have to start following Tale of Painters then. And yeah... Its tough finding a forum where it's ok to actually like GW games surprised by the massive hostility in this thread to be honest.
But oh well, I guess it will change in 5 years and then it will be cool to hate on Privateer Press games

Wow, are you serious? Do people really have an attitude with me because i'm positive about painting toy soldiers and reading a magazine. Sorry if I've offended anyone. Wasn't my intention.

After going back to read those I can only say fair enough, he did burn some bridges there. ouch!
But then again someone always told me that if you pay back in the same coin you are no better hey?
Lets just concentrate on minis then, I think its safer for everyone
Speaking of WD I was browsing some at my local WHSmith some months ago and could not part myself from a few quid, nice pics and all but looks kind of empty... I dont even go and browse it anymore a shame really considering I really like this hobby. Same goes for rulebooks the design is so errr void.
But I digress, congrats Gareth, make sure you do not poke people to much

GW should hire Gareth to teach the 'Eavy Metal how to paint again. The DE release is full of all manner of terrible painting, and some decent.
What happened to the people who painted Badrukk? How does the studio go from that to the new DE models?
Gareth, as always your models were wonderful.
