This is something I am wondering for everyone. Do you have too many hobbies?
I currently have
40k
PAthfinder
Warmachine
Video games.
Entertaining the idea of a WHFB army.
Now anyone ever feel like they are too overwhelmed by what they want to do or have?

You may have too many games, but it is all one hobby.
I feel I am overwhelmed, then I rethink my perspective on the hobby and I feel better.
I find I like the "hobby" side of the hobby over the gaming, so as long as I think in that reference, I am fine. If I think in a gaming reference, I am overextended

Yes. Immensely.
I am cutting back. Going to be selling some items next week, in fact.
For me, warmachine is too complex for me to keep up with. So, I'm dropping that. Keeping my 40k/fantasy projects as things I might get to in the future, but I'm mostly playing smaller skirmish games these days.

Mine go like this:
Tabletop Miniature Wargaming (This includes Warmachine/ Hordes and Infinity)
Video Games
Running and some other various forms of exercise.
Studying History (I already do this for college, but History fascinates me greatly)
Video Entertainment (This means Movies, Television, anime. I just wanted to use a generalized term for it)
And I have to do this while going to school. It is not so much a burden if you manage your time correctly, so I feel I have enough hobbies to keep me busy and have my life have a bit of spice to it.

Yes, all the time. I'm a calm and gathered person in pretty much every way, but when it comes to nerd hobbies I can be an anxious mess I've sold off a lot of stuff which feels really good, and some other things I'm not really sure whether I want to keep or not I've stashed away. So I'm improving.
At the moment I wouldn't consider myself playing any wargame at all. Right now I'm doing some research and thinking what it is I really want to do before I buy anything, where as before I'd just buy whatever I liked, only to be miserable later because it'd turn out I didn't like the stuff after all, or couldn't find time for it.
So I know the hobby overwhelmness (not a word apparently) pretty well. But I'm moving away from it. Step one is admitting and accepting, so good for you HSM

Yeah I have:
Lego
Airsoft
Video gaming (damn you Diablo 3 being released on PS3)
Mini gaming (painting, converting, and casting included in that)
Writing
RPGs (I recently got back into pathfinder and have really enjoyed the 40k based ones)
Board gaming
So I think my hobbies are just fine. My fiancé on the other hand has a completely different opinion.

Multiple warhammer armies, 3 (and soon to be 5) kings of war armies, 2 warpath armies, more board games than I can count, video games, movies, and X-Wing. That's just the "nerdy" stuff. Yeah, I got a lot.

Yep, I've had to prioritize. Not in a strictly deliberate manner, mind, but I found over time that I preferred to spend my time in various wargaming-related activities. I rarely play video games anymore, as I have a tendency to spend a lot of time playing them, and I much prefer to do something 'productive' like working on a terrain project. A few of my other hobbies are also hard to do halfheartedly, so I eventually phased them out. Time is the problem. Were I independently wealthy with no need to work, I could find plenty to do with my time.

hotsauceman1 wrote: Video Games for me are nice and relaxing, Not requiring me to be there entirely in the thing like painting. I watch lots of movies. Movies I can watch with my wife/kids. Video games require me to be 'checked out' from the family, whether it is upstairs in the office playing games on the PC, or monopolizing the Playstation in the family room. My wife and I play video games and board games together, but the days of playing Skyrim for 6 hour sittings are no more. I can't in good conscience do that and disappear to paint miniatures for a few hours. If I spent time playing video games I would pay for it somewhere else, which would probably mean time I would prefer to be painting, building, playing, or messing around on forums . Skyrim was my last big investment in a video game in terms of time. Before I had kids I played plenty, and did wargaming stuff too. Now...I have to prioritize. And honestly, video games started to feel a bit like drugs. Not in a bad, addictive sense. I don't really have much against drug use, though I don't indulge personally. But in the sense that I would stop playing a game and feel like I had been sitting around doing nothing for hours, and the weight of all the crap I had to do would come rushing in. I can assemble miniatures for 4 hours straight, stop, and not feel like I haven't done anything. It's weird. Accomplishing things in a video game doesn't really "do it" for me anymore. I like video games you can play in short spurts: turn on, get right to the action, play for however long you want, turn off. Left 4 Dead is a good example. Hop into a game, kill zombies until you don't feel like it anymore, quit in the middle.

Yes - I struggle to get anywhere in any of them because of it.
I have:
Collecting/painting minis (a good half-dozen games + misc)
Videogames (not nearly as much as I used to - pc/Nintendo/3ds)
Trying to branch off into normal painting/sketching
Shelved trying to learn an instrument
Exercise (not really a hobby, but time consuming - running/yoga/misc - 5-6 days a week)
Cooking - basically never anymore.
Gardening (spring/summer only)
Reading - way behind here too - plus I've recently rekindled my childhood love of dinosaurs - which is a whole new set of books to dive into.
On the plus side - I basically never watch movies anymore, and watch very little television. On the down side - nearly all my hobbies involve me sitting quietly alone working on something - which can leave me too isolated/lonely at times.
I feel like I have a very hard time balancing all these things - and I'm not sure how other, busier people manage.

I'm trying to kick the timesink of online games.
Steam is helping immensely, since it shows you the total number of hours spent on a game every time you play.
When that starts to hit 4 figures for any given game it really makes you have a hard think about what else you could have done with the time. Especially when the servers get deleted due to the games company not giving a toss and you lose all your stuff.
Going to be some veeery unhappy people losing 10-20 years of their life when WoW eventually gets its servers wiped by Blizzard (after they've moved on to phablet games or whatever).
Whereas once you put together and paint a mini, it's yours for life... same goes for anything creative.

I have one hobby: Wargaming. How many games I have armies for is irrelevant. I will play what games with what armies as I choose to and get rid of stuff I no longer need. If it finds a buyer, so much the better, but I'm not above giving it away OR just dumping it. The wife isn't so much a hobby as a lifestyle change. I was a former professional photographer, and do occasionally use the camera to take pics of gaming things, but I don't treat it as a separate hobby anymore. Was never what anyone would call a "video gamer". Yes, I've played the odd game, but I can only play them for a couple of hours at a time, before I get bored and have to put it down and do something else. I've had 2 consoles (an Atari cartridge system in the 80s, and a PS2 that recently died) in the last 35 years and have no interest in "upgrading" to a newer system where I can't play the games I have anyway (PS2 game library has been orphaned by Sony. Many PS1 games are on PSO, but not many PS2 and none of what I have.)

Over the years, my hobbies diminished greatly. I think it jsut had more to do with family life and career. Now, I have two hobbies: 40K and running. There are other games I'd like to get into, but I really have difficulty finding the time to dedicate to them.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

I feel like I have too many hobbies, I can't spend enough time on one to thoroughly get into it, especially if it's a new one, I have, in no order:
Wargaming
Photography
Video Games
Films & going to the cinema
Eating out
Reading (books and comics)
Girlfriend
I really struggle to fit the time in while working a 45 hour week. My reading always seems to be the first one to be sacrificed, followed by photography. However now I'm dating a professional photographer this may well change...
Been wargaming the longest, for around 12 years

Let's see:
Wargaming (Darklands, Epic, Man O'War, Space Hulk, Occasional 40K - Rogue Trader Imperial Guard, BFG, Warhammer Quest and now Sedition Wars)
PC Gaming - mainly RPG games (Skyrim, still play Daggerfall and Baldur's Gate - can't wait for the new revamped version, Dishonoured and Thief)
Cooking (with lots of wine)
I'm trying to pick up Motorbiking (though the Mrs keeps putting the kibosh on that)
I don't tend to PC game as much these days. To echo Weeble's post above, I'd rather spend a few hours and have something to show for it other than a "Congratulations" message on a screen somewhere. If I spend 2 hours PC gaming or 2 hours painting, I'd have something to show for 2 hours painting.
Though I'm beginning to try to cut down on what my miniature pile is like. I've been flogging off failed projects and clutter such as Rogue Trader Orks, WHFB 3rd - yes really (keeping my Chaos Dwarfs for now though), Forgeworld Resin and other odds and sods. Cleaning out and trying to focus on a smaller amount is quite therapeutic and you get a nice pile of cash. The hardest thing is resisting that new shiny that appears!

For me its always a struggle.
Let's see the list.......
Wife
4 Kids (youngest is 4mo old)
14 credit hours of college
Full time Job
Church and Church activities outside of Sundays.
WarMachine.
So yea I get hardly anytime for my hobby.
I try to paint when everyone is asleep (cuz its the only extra time I have so 4-5hrs a night for me).
At this point I am lucky if I get in a game every month or so. but at least when I do get to play, more and more of my models are painted.
