I am magnetizing my models and want to be able to have all (or most of) the options. Where do I find weapons like the Heavy Bolter, Multi-melta, Plasma Cannon, and Lascannon for the heavy weapons marine? I can't find anything on any of the various bits sites I've been to...

The Devestator squad will have all the heavy weapons you seek. I believe the tac squad only has a missile launcher.

Yes, get most from the devastator squad, or convert from extra weapons from other types of units (like the lasers from the centurions).

These are quite common on ebay bits vendors.

best of luck!

eBay is the best way. But if you get a discount through a FLGS and want at least one of all of the weapon options I'd pick up a devestator squad.

SM bits are the easiest to come by though so if you know a few people in the game then you know at least one or two SM players. See if they have any of these weapons for trade or sale.

What's up with the Falcons? Ryan has been getting me some points for my fantasy team but looks like they are in a similair (but not nearly as bad)situation as the Giants.

Forgeworld also do excellent heavy weapon packs if you want lots of the same weapon. They are a different style than the normal GW models, however they are totally usable and really nicely done.

Excellent advice. I've had better luck tracking down bits through bits sellers on ebay then through actual bits sites.

The Devastator box set includes two of each: PC, LC, HB, and one each MM, ML. Plus sarge bits, accessories, etc. Only enough bodies to make 5 marines (but 6 legs, so if you have a spare torso, you can make one more) Compatible with the rest of the marine range, so if you have some spare tac marines, you can make the whole box.

NIB from GW is $35, less if you buy from a discounter or get a deal from your FLGS. I'm not sure what bits sites are charging these days, but a quick check of two shows weapons at $2-5 each. You might be able to find better prices then that. But when you count the fact that it's nice to have the whole kit, with all the extras and bodies to build them on, GW's kit is actually not such a bad idea. If you were just looking for a single part (like wanted 4xMMs) then bits sites would probably be a better option

I think magnetizing HW marines is a little overkill. I do strongly recommend building them all, and keeping them on the swap shelf, and changing them into/out of lists as needed. For me, the time and effort that it would take to make interchangeable devastators is not worth it. Not when you can just get an extra box of basic marines and build them all. YMMV.

I wish I knew. They've been in every game so far, they just can't finish the deal. And now Julio Jones may be done for the season, so that's extra awesome... :(

Looks like the Devastator Squad is probably the way to go, then. I was hoping I could just get the weapons somewhere without having to buy a whole new box set, but this is GW and I should have known better. Thanks everyone!

despite being a big magnet fan, I have to agree with nevelon: it's really not worth the effort of trying to magnetize heavy weapon marines. the way the heavy weapons and backpacks go together doesn't really lend itself to magnetizing.

marine heads, legs and torsos are pretty easy to come by. they're often some the cheapest bits on ebay and you tend to end up with a lot of spares over time, anyway. if you pick up a devastator box or two and find yourself those extra body parts, you can build a marine for every weapon in the box and really maximize your investment

Did you look at Forgeworld?

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/The_Horus_Heresy/Legiones_Astartes/Space_Marine_Legion_Army_List/LEGION_HEAVY_SUPPORT/Legion_Heavy_Support_Squad?filter_reset=1

The heresy Era heavy weapons don't have the complication of backpacks, except for the Autocannons which can't be taken by Devastators anyway, so you could easily do modulat devastators with 1 arm and weapon that could be kept separate. They do sets of 5 HBs, Lascannon, missile launchers, multi-meltas and plasma cannon for £12 each. At a bit over £2 per weapon I think its pretty competetive with any of the bits sellers.
