My Job search is taking way longer than I expected and I am going to be in a bit of a pickle when rent comes due next month. I've tapped the normal for employment but most of my leads have come up empty. I thought I'd try something unconventional and ask Dakka if you guys can point me towards any job leads. I am experienced in office type work (Paperwork, database management, data entry, word processing) and am former military. I live near San Diego, California in the North County Area (Vista if you are familiar with the area).
If you guys could post or PM me with any help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Have you tried the local temp agencies? I personally have only ever really been successful with personal referrals but they must be hiring someone. You already have a good resume written up?
Also, this site has 18 pages of stuff for San Diego, though of course I don't know the applicability of those results. Might be worth digging into.
Also might be worth stopping by one of these places.

If you haven't, take a look at www.usajobs.gov, and tick the box for "jobs for federal employees" as being a veteran can sometimes qualify you for those as well.

If you have an associate degree, I know a job which is always hiring. Special Ed Instructional assistant.
By Law, when a child has needs, the school system must provide staffing which means there are always kids who need 1-on-1 attention to help them get through the day and mainstream. Often they just need someone with an able body who can help them out.
School system jobs like that have great benefits, a good union and can make 9-14$ an hour and can open doors to other 'support staff' work within school systems. I spent a year helping a wheelchair-bound student get to class and use the bathroom for a year when I started out and used that to get in the union to apply for computer jobs within the school system. It built the foundation for a 15 year career so far.
Also, if you have a 4 year degree, you can substitute in most places. I know lots of people who 'sub' in between jobs or to augment jobs with non-weekday work. If you can handle kids and follow a lesson plan, it might be a good opportunity. YMMV.

If you absolutely need a job Greenpeace will hire you to canvass, or at least they would when I worked there 4 years ago. It is a stopgap measure for sure, but it might be worth a look if you need the money.

I was trained as a heavy equipment mechanic (graduated top of my class even). But as the Marine Corps would have it, they decided to place me in a unit with Zero pieces of heavy equipment and 7 mechanics. So I mainly did office work and database management.
Keep me posted on what your how your father's business goes.

Damn, My friend worked for a vacuum sells company. They did such heinous things that he quit after THE FIRST DAY
But the Cutco thing is funny. Often in classes we see advertisements that say "Make 18$/hour, work your own time, Perfect for college students" and posters all over with numbers.
turns out it is Cutco, a majot scheme where they give you the knives, and if you dont sell them in a certain period YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM.

You got it about right. Keep in mind that while I was trained as a mechanic, about the only thing I have done with that training is change oil on a Sky Trak.

Have you considered anything outside of office-type work? There a programs to help veterans find good paying jobs. For instance, there is United Association's Veterans in Piping ( http://www.uavip.org) that puts vets in apprenticeship programs for pipefitting, plumbing, and HVAC service. There is also Helmets to Hardhats which helps provide jobs in a broader selection of trades. PM me if you want to know more, I'd be glad to help.

former military, so you know who AAFES is? They are literally ALWAYS hiring, and ex-military get first preference when applying.
i currently work for AAFES on fort dix. it's not glamorous, but it certainly pays the bills, with a little left over, and is laughably easy.

I don't know about your options for relocation across the states, but with 'big' mechanic skills, the fracking industry will bend over and offer it's very well paying arse to you if you're willing to go work where they are.
They were massively involved in PA when I was living there and the money they paid workers to migrate there to work was phenomenal.
