In less than a week we shall be set free on the high seas of the Caribbean to live the life of a Pirate in the 1700's during the "Golden Age of Piracy". I'm pretty stoked for AC4 and was wondering how excited others are for this game.

Nope - I thought AC3 was crap, quite honestly.

I have rather liked many of his postings, actually.

To be honest, I kinda wish they had removed the assassin part, made it a new ip, and made it about just being a pirate working for profit and or some noble intentinos before getting corrupted. Cause to be honest that kinda sounds cool.

I don't get the hype this game is getting. I like assassin's creed but I don't see enough of a leap for this game to be worth much excitement. They even did a video on ign about why I need to be excited about the game and I came away from the article still scratching my head as to what the big deal is

I am excited for the soundtrack. Historical sea shanties? I'm in for that!

I only recently got into AC, and am about halfway through AC3 and loving it. It's gone from years of being ignored straight into one of my all-time favourites, and the new ones looks just as good. Better graphics, more ship stuff (the best bit of AC3) and to cap it all, PIRATES!

(in other words, a legitimate excuse to go 'Yarr, we be taking over the ship. Avast, lubbers!' while playing the Xbox...)

Kind of felt done with AC after III but the naval stuff was the best part and it seems Ubisoft knows that too and made a whole game of it.

The end of AC3 was a huge let down for me, kind of killed it.
Plus with desmond dead I don't know what they are gonna do to continue the present story unless the setting is all in the past.

Ya, wonder if it will even be in the Animus.

I went to the midnight launch with my friend and watched him played it. Here are my initial thoughts:

Way too frackin easy. They even pinpoint where the hidden boxes of money are on your radar. Combat is just mashing the attack button so far.

The new main character is more interesting than Connor but that isn't saying much.

Environments are stunning. Seriously, it's bright and colorful for once.

Free running is.. both improved and worsened. At least there is more roofs to climb on.

I'm having fun. 'Nuff said.

I tried the PS4 demo at fanexpo - unfortunately for me there was no tutorial or hint at the control scheme. I died horribly twice and couldn't figure out how to fire the ships cannons. I asked one of the sony guys for help and finished the level.

Game looks decent, but I'm not about to run off and jump in the franchise.

AC4 will be my first game in the series. I'm a fan of the era of Pirates in the Caribbean and I'm looking forward to trying this on my PC via Steam.

If you replay memories after finishing AC 3, there's collectible 'pivot points'. Once you collect them all, you get a message about Desmonds memories being uploaded to the 'cloud'. So it's basically a little handwavium to let them keep making stabbing historical games without that horribly dull character.

The modern day story for this one is actually kind of hilarious. Spoiled for those who don't want to know.



They've also surprisingly tied Watch Dogs and Assassins Creed together with some hints in both games.



I was supremely disappointed with AC 3. There was barely any side activities that were in any way entertaining, the main character was dull and way too serious, the framing story and activities felt really awkward, and the game itself I felt just didn't play as well as previous titles.

Everything I've seen about Black Flag is a complete 180 to that. The framing story is light hearted and fun, the game is drowning in fun side activities, the gameplay and interface have been tightened up and work better, and the main character is a pirate. It's like they're atoning for the sins of the past.

So far I have to do fast traveling in Black Flag when going to mission locations. Otherwise I'll get distracted and spend three or four hours pillaging Spanish shipping.

Sounds like mission accomplished then. They wanted an open world with so much to do you would get distracted. You're a pirate, you're meant to go where the wind takes you.

So, as someone who returned AC3 a week after getting it due to frustrations in enviroment navigating, combat, and mission design, might I be interested in returning to the series with Black Flag?

If you forget about the main missions its a hell of a lot better, I can't even remember the mission I was on at the start of the week, but I've pillaged a hell of a lot and whaled as much as my conscience would let me...which was more than I thought I would...

I never finished AC 3 because I got a bit bored of it, but being a free roaming pirate is great fun!

The wait for the PS 4 version is extremely irritating, especially sin'ce it's basically my launch game. Sure, I'm also grabbing Killzone and NFS Rivals, but this is the game I'm itching to play.

The wind seems to take me into a lot of English and Spanish cargo holds. It's a real plus because I've already upgraded the hell out of my ship (no where near done yet, but enough to take out mid level ships in groups) and I've gotten the "Fleet Command" mini game running nicely with some lovely frigates hauling cargo for me. Interestingly, during the actual golden age of pirates, the four frigates, two brigs (counting the Jackdaw, and ignoring the fact that the Jackdaw punches WELL above it's weight class) and handful of schooners in the fleet would make me a significant naval power (solely in Caribbean waters). I want to add a couple ships of the line to my rosters next.


My only gripe so far is the hunting mini game. It means I have to go on land and find animals and that can take an age. An age that could be spent pillaging a treasure ship. Of course you can buy all the hunting supplies via currency, so it is literally as optional as it gets. The whaling mini game is freaking BRUTAL. Like I know Greenpeace cried about it being in the game, but if anything I feel like this is the best kind of awareness raising, if you have basic empathy, the whaling minigame shoves one of the crueler things humans do even in the modern era down your throat and makes you wallow in it a bit.

I hear there are these things called "story missions" in the game that you can play if you get bored, but feth that I am the terror of the Spanish main.
