Necrons, the models are simple and necessitate simple paint themes.

Necrons are by far the easiest. I'd say Grey Knights are right behind them.

Daemons. I've seen some really nice looking armies done quickly with drybrushing and inks.

Since the question was 'paint WELL', I say Space Marines. Necrons are VERY easy to paint, but not well. Due to the lack of detail on the models, it is much harder to paint them enough to stand out and seem like they are done 'well'.
Of course, you might not agree. :-)

Necrons:
Airbrush boltgun metal.
Airbrush Badab black.
Paint gun chaos black.
Paint details snot green.
Edge highlight gun and details with fortress grey and scorpion green.
I challenge you to find me a simpler paint scheme which looks as effective.

I painted an entire 5000 points of them in about a week, and won best painted at a tournament the next weekend.
They're easy to do with a simple palette, shade ideally with washes (or dipping), and don't have a lot of details that need to be picked out.

I've seen one of my gaming friends painting his Necron Warriors. He did them in one day and the effect is decent, despite his inexperience. The other Necron models he has also do not look particularly difficult to paint either.

I'd say grey knights.
Necron are easy to paint, but they're monstrously difficult to paint WELL. Spraypainting silver and washing black makes grey knights look like knights in steel armor almost perfectly. That same technique on necron just gets you bare tabletop level, at the most.
To make necron look GOOD, you've got to actually be a good painter. With GK, you just need less effort to make a nicer looking model.

Necrons - to make them appear decent all you need to do is prime black, dry brush boltgun, wash with a dark ink, put 2 dots of green for eyes.... done.
Now you can always do a much more extensive paint job and you will notice the difference...... but not many other armies can just dry brush a base colour and then wash to yield table top quality results.

Necrons. It's been repeated many times, but really, a black undercoat, a metal basecoat and a wash does the job nicely and looks very neat if you don't splash paint everywhere like a 5 year old
Just out of curiosity, which two people voted for IG being the easiest? After painting a plethora of pouches, lasgun sights and Aquila's on all my guardsman (not to mention keeping the belts neat and tidy, and doing a two part basing job), I practically cried inside when I realised I had only done ten sodding Guardsman and that I have about 50 more waiting in the draw.

Amen to that, i've almost finished 140 consecutive guardsmen. To sum up how soul destroying that was, I had to intersperse the Plasma guys as a "treat".

Oh god, I thought I was the only one. All the guys at my FLGS kinda laughed at the thought that they were tough. But damn it takes soooooo long to make them look good.

Individually they aren't too bad. Basecoat, highlight wash. It's just when you have to do a ton of them is when you have issues. And then you try adding camo and small details (Like trim).
Space Marines are really easy to make look good too. They have sharp edges and a lot of flat areas.

That might be true, but surely that applies when painting any large number of troops?
Space Marines are okay I guess, but again, details like the Aquilas might get some people, and the eyes take some care to do properly. Necrons barely have any detail like that - all the difficult stuff is just the details the painter himself wishes to add to them.
