Other. My vote goes to siege armies that just throw men's lives away. An army where the Commissar is there to keep the men from running. Towards the enemy.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Death Korps. Artillery backed infantry. Essentially when the IG cannot do something, they call in the DKoK. WS4 BS4 guardsmen are more useful than you would expect, especially when 12 points gets you carapace, hotshot lasguns, grenades, and 2x special weapon options. Give the watchmaster a sword and they can even go toe-to-toe with marines.

Pretty much every high level guard commander's been exhaustively drilled on what to do with masses of expendable infantry and giant tanks. For the most part, they're not quite sure how to use these fast-moving elite drop troopers, except "Hey, these guys deploy kinda like Space Marines. Let's use them like Space Marines!"

And sometimes they survive.

I want to see 6 plain (BC and 3HB) Leman Russ tanks!
With two squads behind each of them (with AC's of course!)!
With a Chimera containing a command squad at the back of each line!
Ensure all tank commanders are waving their combat weapons!

With 6 Vendetta's with special weapons squads flying overhead!
(They're like a box of chocolates: you never know what you get)

With a ton of heavy weapon squads in the back with mortars carpet bombing before them! (more for effect than it's affect)

Glorious!!!

Sooooo...I'm not an IG player, and actually have very little respect for the army of cannon fodder (although I have mad respect for the army of CANNON, thanks to DKoK dragging the rest of the Imperiums meat shields into the realm of survivable combat). That said, I do like the IG for the look they give of your standard human soldier fighting grit and dirt, jacket and phosphorous, with every tooth and nail at their disposal while hordes of alien Tyranids or heretical Chaos Marines absolutely massacre their swollen and bloated ranks.

That said, the true Glory of the IG comes when all companies are operating as one for each company individual possesses a sustainable weakness that will see their demise against the wrong opponent. And this is coming from someone who absolutely believes in the superiority of siege/gun line combat (while still secretly acknowledging guerrilla tactics in their place as well. Is it any wonder I would've joined the Alpha Legion? XD).

I am of the supreme mindset that if you can't get to me, you can't kill me. At the same time, because I like being an upset player more than anything else, I look for every opportunity to be as defiant as possible against set-ups like that, even if it earns me nothing more than a couple dead bodies and some laughs.

Back to the point: Artillery pounding back field positions, mechanized infantry routing foot sloggers and infantry holding the lines against spearheads, all the while KNOWING you're dying and going out in a blaze of glory. The IG die the best, in my opinion. And the Chaos Space Marines kill them the best. XD

Another reason why I can respect them a little more than I probably should.

You IG and your tonka trucks. lol. I love what the CSM Codex quotes for Sorcerers about the Imperiums toys: "The crude pyrotechnics of the Imperium are the weapons of a frightened child. Only we have the courage to wield the Immaterium itself."

So ya'll have tanks and we have soldiers as strong as tanks. Sure, that's a fair fight if you want. XD

I know I'm kinda trolling here, but I want ya'll to know it's with love. Of all the forces in the Imperium, I have greater respect for the IG above all others. Seriously, they're in the - can constantly. Mad props for even still existing. lol

Oh yeah, Mr. Chaos? We may have tonka trucks with primitive pyrotechnics driven by people who are scared silly and you may have the warp on your side. But we dont no courage or sleak vehicles. We have good ol fashioned laser guns and cannons as wide as a daemon princes head. So while you are over there screaming about the blood god, we'll be way, way over there loading a shell in. And it only takes one for most of you sorry sacks of scum.

Whether that's ostrich-riders or double-lines of guys in blue and/or grey with laslocks or massive blocks of massed infantry practicing well-drilled battlefield maneuvers...

Anything that anachronistic in the setting of 40K.
