Quick question, how do you pronounce lasgun/cannon/pistol? I have heard it pronounced both ways.

Ive read the official way of pronouncing it is "Layz-gun" as in a shortened version of laser gun. I pronounce it "lazz-gun" because it sounds better.

"Layz-gun" is absolutely stupid. I know that's GW's official stance, but that's dumb.

Las-gun. Laz-gun. If they wanted it to be "layz-gun", they should have spelled it "lase-gun".

Las - gun. Because 40,000 years in the future, it's entirely probable that no one outside of a few Magos Sollex know what LASER means/is.

I've always used the short A.

Buy "Layz" makes sense given that it's etymologically a mashup of "laser gun" into a single word.

Yeah, I have called it a Laz-gun for the last 20 years. I once heard William Hurt yell out "Layz-Gun" in the newer Dune movie, and boy did it sound awkward, even if it's "technically" more accurate.

Plus...Low Gothic pronounces it "lazzer". Duh.

I find myself pronouncing it like this, too. Maybe it is just an accent thing, since while I'm not entirely consistent (damn Canadian straddling of US and British English) I tend to spell things like 'realise' instead of 'realize,' so I'm used to not flattening S sounds into Z sounds.

The community is a great place to come for tactics advice, and there is a lot of very sound opinions and idea out there, but at the end of the day, play the game how you want to... Don't worry about the hordes of Dakka descending on your gaming club to arrest you for taking one heldrake or not using a screamerstar. Knowing the standard opinion (and that's all it is) on what is good/bad and conforming to that opinion religiously are two entirely separate things.

Ugh. I remember that line. That was just one of the many, many words in that miniseries that were pronounced markedly different than they were in the Dino De Laurentis film.

And, it's pronounced "lazz" in 40K, because the Emperor says so. Really. That was one of his last proclamations before being plugged into the Golden Throne.

Lays is a brand of chips and I don't think the IG shoot potatoe chips at their enemies (even if they are more effective then flashlights)

There is:
Layz-gun "Plays-gun"
Lahz-gun "Oz-gun"
Lass-gun "Like Pokemon 'Lass' "
Lahs-gun "Loss-gun"
Lase-gun "Lace-gun"
And probably more pronunciations.

I say "Lahz-gun" like "Oz-gun"

Though with the introduction of the "Long Las" (sniper rifle) into this debate, does the pronunciation of anyone's choice match up between the two sides?

Saying "Long Lahz" sounds like something Congress would come up with.
"Long Lass" makes more sense here.

So I think maybe, the "correct" pronunciation would be "Lass-gun" as it fits both. (Even if it sounds different.)

Nice biscuits are French, we'd have Digestives and Hobnobs
