I just wasn't motivated to paint green and black :/ And Now that I have novels to back up the soul drinkers fluff wise I am now excited about finishing my army. That's the thing that kills painters, lack of motivation and the change helped me

I think the emblem looks awesome in the two tone.

They look nice and vibrant.

Not going to do NMM on the whole army though?

@TMT lol.. No NMM for these guys. I'm sill trying to grasp the concept. Ahriman turned out looking like bone instead of gold and abaddon was more me blending where I thought things looked good rather than applying the true NMM thought. I like both of the models as they were both test subjects and turned out well in their own ways.

Nice simple tutorial. And a simple technique that produces good results. Thanks.

Are there any problems with the pencil marks potentially wearing off? Or will a spray of matt varnish fix it to the model?

Liking the Drinkers dude last army of Drinkers I saw where really lacking background (Was a local store army thrown together and made to say OH WOW Soul Drinkers funny didnt have that effect on me) but this is looking very promising as you have actually diviated away from the need to make them Imperial.

So is it gonna be a half and half mix of loyalist and Traitor parts or are you gonna go all out seperatist??

Soul Drinkers rule. I think we're all secretly working on a Soul Drinkers army. I know I am!

Top work LB, as usual. Are we going to see a Sarpedon?

So I suck at using GS but not so bad with good old clay. I love the air dry clay! Cheap and easy to work with.

I find now with what I've added on I basically used the defiler as an armature lol and am covering up a lot of the machine with flesh. So what I'll do from this point is build the muscle and flesh masses and carve out certain areas for detail bitz as well as add more armor. I didn't show the front because my idea about the rollers didn't impress, so I'll be drawing up some designs and ripping up the torso area so I can have full freedom to sculpt.

Didn't work on the Cadians today being addicted to the defiler progress knowing I have another in box waiting to be built. But I think if you had to choose for me, you would have wanted me to work on the defiler anyway

I liked it better at this point with the tubes and metal more visible. The progress you've made now just makes it look like a greater daemon or named greater daemon like FW ones. To bad. Looks good, but i justlike the visible flesh/metal better.

Thanks guys.

@ Inyoka- The pencil should be used last, just before varnish as you CAN rub the pencil off depending on how smooth the surface is on the model.

@BOSS- I still don't know all the details as I just got the books, but from reading it looks as if SD's leave the imperium brush closely with chaos then instead of going back they renounce both sides.. kind of loners it sounds.

@Tek- Sarpedon MUST be in my army. I need to read and see how he is described (terminator armor, weapons) then I'll swap some things around and paint him at abaddon's standard.

@Backdraft- Sigh... the defiler... Now that SD's are in the work the defiler has been scratched. Too much time has been spent on it. I liked it at this stage too but got carried away and hated the model at the end because as you said, he looked more like a GD than a machine.

OT: I just finished designing a shirt for all you guys that hate playing against a primer army. Especially when you are one who takes the time to paint your own before you field them.

That tutorial is Genius ! I'm definitely using that technique on my tanks, Maybe even my next Dread.

I have a couple of questions though.
1. Is there a specific type of pencil that you used ? it looked fairly soft in the video, i was wondering if it was an artists pastel pencil or anything fancy like that.

2. Could you put up a hi-resolution (higher res than the video a least) still shot of the final result, just so we can see the details of the effect.

Thanks

Oh and the SD's are looking awesome. I agree, the chalice looks a little square maybe?

CRAP! I found out the SD are Regular space marines so they wouldn't look all chaosy. Mutations yes but still in SM armor.. So if I continue I'll only have the color scheme.. This sucks. I'm in the process of stripping my models down.. had about 4 coats of paint on them and the paint started cracking on more than half the models.

I need a CHAOS Scheme that will be fun to paint. You guys know what I can do. It's like every couple weeks I find something wrong and scratch my scheme. Grrrrr.. I apologize.

I think we have a winner.

Company of Misery - FINAL CHOICE. I WILL do the whole army even if the test mini takes long. Need to play!

Like the flames and I think there is much fun to be had on the vehicles with this scheme.

Yeah I saw that one on Lexicanum.. Termi's are a terrible model to showcase a scheme like this. Their armor is so ornate that it obscures the detail.. If I didnt know the scheme had flames I would just say "so, its half black and red" until you look closer and see some flame flicker. It looks like they used scab red as a base then highlighted with red gore. I plan to make mine a little brighter.

That model was painted terribly. The color choice and all. The only thing that I like is how well the silver chain is painted lol.

This scheme could be good. There's plenty of opportunity for embellishment too by enhancing the red to a dark orange in places and bringing the black to a grey, thus getting more than a two dimensional paint scheme. Good luck with the army Les!

Good call on the Company of Misery - I haven't seen anyone do those so you'll have an original army for sure!

As for your frequent changing of scheme problem, do what I do and paint them up as a mixed warband of different Legions and renegades. That way, you can have a mix of different colour schemes and unit styles and most importantly; it's Chaotic to be varied!

So, keep up the progress, and looking forward to that test model.
