Thanks guys for putting up with me lol. The first test models are going to be a regular csm and one of the vindicators.

As they are sitting in Super Clean stripping expect some wip shots in a couple of days on the vindicator and probably the Csm tomorrow. Got it in the ultrasonic cleaner getting all the details clean.

WOW! I fething love them! If I could do any kind of freehand or all of my current armies weren't red, I'd do an entire legion of the CoM. Can't wait to see what you do with them Les.

Well here's the first test model at about %80 complete. Think I'm going to change the color of the tau head trophy ir dirty it up with the weathering kit to make it less vibrant. Overall I love the model. About his sword. I was just playing with a scheme I could do on all the weapons in the army without spending hours on blending. Kinda a lava sword. FEEL THE MAGMA!

P.S.--- Yes the black is hard lined with a mix of Black/Codex Grey 2:1. Just not a fan of extreme highlights on black.. I'd throw a gloss coat on if I wanted that.

He looks very nice thus far.I love the pattern on the sword.Could you get a closer pic of the icon(I mean the one on the plasma pistol arm)on the arm?
I would like to see it,from close up.

Me likey. I agree on the tau head-needs a lot of weathering. The only other thing is that I imagined more flames than what you've done.
Overall though, great job!

Yeah I followed the drawing and tried to put flames where they had it on him, but his torso has little things in the way, metal loop and vent.

I'll take some up close picture tomorrow of the flames but I'm beat and going to bed. Been up all night working on him getting him ready for pictures. Had to spray him down with matte varnish as I was using glaze and he was almost full gloss lol.

G-nite guys! I'll be back to chat it up later today

Have you considered highlighting the edge of the lava sword?

It's been touched with a dark gray but I wanted something quick and easy for the rest of the guys. Of coarse I could have gone crazy with the sword as I've done before but that was not the aim this time. I'll try edging it with the red, orange, yellow as that wont take long.

I like it. Although the sword doesn't look quite enough like lava. I know you don't want to spend ages blending colours, but it seems to me that something else is needed. Maybe a very slight line of a pale yellow to give something of the glow? The armour patterning looks good, although a little flat. It might just be the photo though.
Great work as always!

Yeah I could spend ages on the sword. The color blend is a ver small gradient. Gore red with glazes of blood red on highlight areas and the black was touched with a dark gray. I'll take a picture of another model before I do the highlights and you will know FLAT from what I did The highlights match the color reflected by the light so it's hard to tell if it's the light or my paint work

Sounds like someone has a crush on you my friend Dude this soul drinker i painted is easily the coolist thing i have painted in a while.

Our armies will pwn the primer armies because we will outnumber them in cool points like 20:1

And more on point i also really like your new paint scheme.

I just glad people like what they see

Yes "primer armies = FAIL"

I drew out all the flames tonight on 6 guys and did more highlighting on the test model to get him up to par with the past models I've done. And YES the magma sword is being changed to a glowie. Blue glowie to be exact. I figure if I need to spend time on anything for these models it will be faces and power weaponry.

It is unfortunate that you have like 45 power weapons in your army. I still want to make mine jade like lunahound said in my paint mixing post. I don't really know how it will turn out though lol.

I just spent like 2 hours playing with gloss and colored pencils on the tac goon i painted tonight. I need to use your air brush to base all these guys man painting on the base takes way to much time especially on my terminators.

Detail pictures as requested I changed the sword paint to be more LB and glossed up a bunch of different details, tubes, all metal areas. We always want depth so why not TEXTURAL DEPTH?

VIDEO INC on how sword was done. Look for it in the next few days.

Looking nice Les.

In regards to adding texture to models, I have used some of my old gluggy paint (20+ year old Ral Partha paint) to add texture to model areas. Works well particularly if you want to make it look like a flat surface has rust bubbling underneath.

Nice TMT! I got some vallejo Crackle Medium but haven't tried it yet. But I'm all about texture on models. Will be my new learning curve trying to make leather parts look like suede and such. Glossing choice parts is only a start

Yeah - I enjoyed using the Ard Coat selectively on my Nurgle daemons.

I am basing them in a swamp, so I go through, complete painting the figure and base, give it a squirt or two of a good matte coat then go over blood, pus and water with gloss coat and then put on the flock. Quite happy with the result.

You can zoom in on this one to see a bit of the glossy effects: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/36154-Plague%20bearer%20unit.html).

Cheers

The trophy helmet looks a lot better now that its not light blue.

I really did like the magma blades though. The new one looks good but it seems kind of generic.

This version looks 100% better Les. The blue helm was just too distracting. Moving the blue to the blade made the model seem way more balanced with the blue on the plasma gun.

@ Stubby - Yes the helm clad in blue pulled your eyes away from the model itself and was more of a distraction. So I opted for the weathered white with a little bit of gore to make the more vibrant pieces the plasma pistol and sword.

@DDRE No problem friend. I'm happy to show avid readers of my blog up close details when needed. It helps you appreciate the model more
