I want to see pics of that.

Can't comment on it's use as a trap but in a single night's mining I managed to get 9 lapis lauzi, 2 diamond, 43 redstone and 48 coal. I'm quite happy with that, and that's only 6 tunnels off the first side tunnel from the main shaft. I've got a lot more digging to do before the bottom layer is mined out.

Well I'm thinking along the lines of how a blackhole works with it. But I kind of want a spire like base in the center of it.

So the first prototype I'm doing for the whole thing is 68x68.

If it works and I ever get around to it I might want to try to make one the size of a chunk.

Nick Ellingworth wrote:Of course I've fallen down it more times than I care to remember, I think once I've got the bottom floor mined out I'm going to fill it with water simply to stop myself falling to a horrible death on a regular basis.

Make it three deep and you can just jump down. I've got a chute set up in my base that goes all the way to bedrock with a 1x1x3 water pit at the bottom. I can get from my fort to bedrock in about eight seconds. Going back up...

I've been looking into it and for whatever reason my mob farm is not generating at the rate it should. Theoretically a single floor 50x50 farm like this SHOULD be generating about 2,000 drops per hour. I'm not seeing anything remotely to that level. I'm getting about 300 drops per hour. Do I need 2,000 an hour... not really. However it would be nice to be able to just AFK at the outlet for twenty or thirty minutes and scoop up what I'm getting for a whole night's AFK right now. That and I'm a tinkerer, I can't let this thing not work the way it's supposed to even if it meets my needs. IT'S BROKEN DAMN IT! It must be fixed! I've got two ideas for why it's not working how it should, spider clogs or me.

So I built observation galleries along my chute. Nothing clogging up there. In fact once spiders drop down into the chute they move right along and get killed. My next move is to build and observation point above the entrance too my chute which is going to take some careful positioning and some ladders. I'm thinking spiders with their incessant wall climbing might be clogging up the canal terminations where they dump into the final leg to the guillotine. This might explain why I see pulses of mobs instead of a steady streams.

The other possibility is me. I've read on the forums that no mobs will spawn within a 24 meter radius of you or your spawn. If this is true then it could easily explain why I don't see that many mobs. My collection point is not too far from the center of the farm. I could very well be eliminating 80% of the generating area simply by being at the collection point. That could easily explain why I'm getting so few drops. The only way to test that is a lot of digging and water conveyors to get me well outside the farm but you'd think that would be a documented issue with this style farm. Then again people might just go meander around doing whatever they please and only occasionally check the collection box. In that case you wouldn't really notice the two or three minutes a large portion of generating floor is out of commission because of your presence. It could explain why the original farm of this style was built just above the bedrock. It kept the creator away from it and he'd only go down occasionally to check it.

Either option requires some digging on my part. Guess I've got my project for the night.

Few pics I have up of my home world so far, none of the multiplayer yet.

Can see the size of the giant water trap and lava guillotene that works like a charm, really nice output of items constantly, though I did die repeatedly while making it ><
No project building yet, just the mine house and storage. Going to start a project on the multiplayer, was thinking a giant floating cocoon fortress like the Monarchs, or a proper spindly evil castle.

Have to get some day shots and clear out the massive forest canopy that obscures my building so I can get some decent pics of it. Curse my giant farm.

Move it all underground.

I've got a tree farm and mob farm under my base and I'm working on getting another cavern hollowed out for crops.

...can grass grow on dirt underground with enough torchlight? If so I may even try an animal farm underground.

I had a lawn on the bedrock so yes grass can grow underground with enough light, however grass will only grow on dirt adjacent to grass.

Hmm... well I know that animals can spawn underground with light and grass. I guess I'll just have to build a grass elevator, dig steps down to the cavern from the surface and once grass makes its way down below I'll cover it all up again.

I may have to do the same as I am, currently building that giant tree we were talking about, it would be nice to have grass under it, shame I built it like 60 blocks above the ground

...huh? Sea level is at elevation 64, bed rock is 0, and the top of the sky is 128. If you're building it 60 meters off the ground then your tree is only going to be 4 meters tall at best.

Well I mean from the dirt, so it'll be nearing the 128 mark,
Bloody difficult to place the trees on it to get them dense enough.

All this talking about fireplaces made me go and check my old house.. I did manage to build one in my tiny house.. The room looks a little bland - didn't have time to decorate it..

It is possible, and if I recall correctly, wasn't so hard to do..

Ugh, saddles. Waste of space. If they could be stacked it would be okay, but they can't, so they suck.

Or fly one. That is no joke. You can actually fly on a pig for a while in MC..

With mods I presume? With default settings you can't even control it.

No mods, just ride a pig that is standing on ice and control it by making tracks for the pig to go down.

For flying I guess it involves TNT

Now there would be a forum title.

"Pig Rider"

In other news trying to move from an established base to a new one is a pain in the ass.

Hah I bet ! Currently building a giant ship currently the layout is 60 long and 20 wide and will eventually be 20 high or so, excluding the masts.

Flying it involves hitting it so it rises, but it will die eventuallly.

Yeah, that's something I want to do eventually. Build a harbor and ships for it. I need to see if there are any boat mods, maybe you can build a large functional one.

Trying to empty everything from the above ground portion of my base so I can level my old fort and start construction on my new keep inside my walls. Also need to build a gatehouse so I can stop piling up dirt on the outside to get over them and back into my base. I only have about twenty stacks of cobblestone though so I'm going to have to gather a lot more before I can build the keep and gatehouse.

Did manage to collect 64 cactus chunks though. So I'm going to start a cactus farm. I have no real use for the cactus but that's not going to stop me from setting up a farm for it "just in case."

Oh, found a quirk I hadn't counted on with my tree farm. I packed them in, not quite in the max efficency style but still pretty dense. I didn't get enough saplings to replace all that I harvested. Turns out when you build them that close they start to share their canopies so instead of each tree dropping 2 or three saplings I was just getting less than one. Still the farm as it existed yielded eight stacks of wood or 32 stacks of planks and it takes only about an hour or two ingame to mature so I'm going back with a less dense pattern to hopefully find a density that is sustainable. That's the goal of all my farms, create them so they are sustainable without having to make outside farming trips. With any luck I'll be able to arrange it so the only resources I can't get within the walls of my keep will be sand and clay.

Oh, and trying to farm/mine obsidian is a pain, I'm casting my nether portal.

Trust me, the full game is much better than the free version.
