DSS you've got a point of course, the snake is the only bright and saturated color. It doesn't look right in the picture, but it's still too much of a contrast, I agree.

I disagree.... I think the bright snake looks great.

It's...hit and miss. If the skin was paler or the snake was slightly closer in tone to the skin then it wouldn't be so disruptive. The problem right now is that the snake just grabs the attention....which isn't what you want with an albino. The skin is suppose to grab...the snake should be similar but not as 'bright' as it is now.

DarkStarSabre - I understand where you are coming from....

But I look at it from another point of view. The Albino part is secondary to the rest. If you're an albino and your family and friends are all albino too....thus being an albino is probably not much of an issue.

So being a gang of albino's your gang colours would be more important than your skin colour imo.

Plus, being a Delaque drawing attention isn't one of the things you're supposed to do. Peter is right, they all have that kind of albinism and photophobia, it's nothing special, just another one of those pale bastards.
One important thing is, that I want them to look dirty in the end, not sure how to do it best though.
I'll have to work on the skin tones in the course of painting the gang, but I will only spend a little more time on this particular miniature. I'll have to experiment with different approaches and put them right next to each other.

@neil101 - the second picture from Dark City? Perfect. I think it also shows my concern for the snake - none of their outfits have as start a contrast. Same with Voldemort for that matter. Hmm. I can see PDH's point - the symbol needs to be noticeable as well...perhaps more muted?

I think though, seeing the skintones on the photos Neil linked that the skin tones on the earlier one aren't that far off.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
By muted - I mean, perhaps more pastel?

Great. Now that Dark City image has me wanting to do things with it.

Neil hits the nail on the head. I've never seen Dark City, but it's a great reference.
I prefer the first picture over the second one. The lighting in the second is extreme, I wouldn't want such harsh contrast as the default in the eternal twilight of the hive.
The dark lord is another great reference, his face color is pretty much where I wanted to go with my juve. Look how blue that is, it's all about the surroundings.

I'll definitely start with a brighter color on the next face, this one will get another highlight or two and be done with.

@Prototype: Cool, that's one of the best things a blog can make you do. Drop a message here when you've got something done.

Progress:
I painted a little more on Inermis, his skin mainly, and he looks much better now. It's much brighter and I managed to give him a hint of pink in the right places. He's not finished yet, but it can't be too long... I hope.

Long time no post...
The pimping of my wizard is still occupying me, but I had some fresh ideas in the meantime.
I'm going to work on my terrain soon. I had one idea that will alter the connecting towers I've built into being even cooler.
Also a friend bought me a DKK quartermaster at the german GD and I'm going to use parts of the set for my inquisition forces soon.
Now back to sculpting on my wizard. Time keeps on slipping...

I was talking about the whole retinue, but I agree the quartermaster himself is very cool and I do have plans for him already.
The servitors will be slightly converted. My plans for the one who's carrying the coats and helmets are set in stone, I'm really looking forward to it.
The surgeon will be more heavily converted in one or the other project, I have an idea, but it will require juggling some bitz first.
The scribe will be unchanged, it's perfect as it is.

Will the Pimp My Wizard character be somehow integrated to these adventures? And sorry if you mentioned it already somewhere. I went through all 20pages of this win win thread and my head is full of wonderful images. You need more finished models though!

Thanks Migs, you're right, too much unfinished business, but I'll take care of that soon.

And yes, Samarianne and Hope are part of Inquisitor Tiberius Probitas' retinue and he is the ordo hereticus inquisitor currently looking into the miner's revolution on Necromunda. Should he decide he has gathered enough data about the nobleties involvement in the rebellion, then he will put an end to it. He will unleash instruments of the emperor's will yet unseen on Necromunda. Besides Samarianne and Hope there will be the Berlichingen Lionhearts with their infamous lion riders and their genehanced hulks, the Hyunen. And just in case Probitas' retinue and stormtroopers aren't enough, he already petiotioned the chapter master of the imperial fists to dispatch one or two kill teams from their chapter stronghold on Necromunda. Eventually there will be a clash of the meanest and toughest, where the miners will field their ogryn slaves and mining machines, the mercenaries will employ their sentinels, the spirelings will have there own toys too etc etc.

You see, everything is linked. I have P&M projects for years just from this scenario. There are dozens of different conversions in progress already.

Well, well, it's been a while...
I'm planning to get this running again soon. I'm gonna overhaul my second work/paintshop on monday, and I'm meaning to get a lot of stuff painted from then on.

In the meantime I haven't been completely inactive of course. What I did the most was buying stuff for the hobby to compensate my lack of hobby time, so there is a truckload of new stuff coming up.
I've also done some minor stuff hardly worth reporting and I've been gathering a lot of ideas of course.
I fell in love with the night lords, read every single piece of text about them, including all the novels and short stories and have plans for several projects involving true scale NL individuals now.

Today I continued working on our industrial scenery, while the girls watched Twilight and added another two stories to the threeway connection towers, so they are six stories tall now. I'll take some pictures the other day.

So much for today expect some more solid news sometime later this week.

Night Lords seem very appropriate for Necromunda what with the whole Batman/Gotham City vibe and Night Wing sorry Night Haunter.......

It is an oath we honour. Everything really. I use whatever bitz are at my disposal. That ranges from all the GW kits and bitz I buy, to the normal modelling stuff, like watch parts, small chains, plastic rods and so on.
If you browse through the blog you will see, that I wrote a lot about where the parts came from.

A whole day of Ikea action later, I finally got myself a proper library and more importantly, enough space to fit in another desk, with enough room for all my colors and gak.
Not everything is in place yet, but tomorrow I'm going to paint, no matter what!

And yes he did...
It was a busy day, but I sat down for a little more than an hour and finished the red bodyglove/armored synskin on Samarianne.
I'm pretty happy with the color I achieved and I'll make sure to invest the motivation of a good painting session into the next (longer) one.
I took pictures, but I couldn't find the usb cable of the new camera. Maybe next time.

  • Alrighty, I painted in between work shifts and continued after coming home and watching our weekly episode of game of thrones. So it must have been about six hours of painting today.

  • I finished my Shadewraith, which didn't quite turn out like intended, but I never meant to give it much care anyway. The next ship to be painted will be Grimnirs Thunder.

  • Most of the time I spent painting the small proportion of base that is directly attached to Samarianne's feet. And I achieved a grimy, rusted, worn off yellow I'm rather happy with. It still needs some highlights for the rusty patches and a layer of rusty pigments, but apart from that it's done and I can return my attention to Samarianne's armor tomorrow, which has been causing me most hesitation in this project. The plan is to finish it in one go tomorrow, so I can start focussing on the details soon.
