Zambro, thank you very much.

Whale music and solar lion - good to hear from you again !

The Fists will return definitely - I have a crazy masochistic thing going with yellow - but they won't be next. Sadly, I haven't progressed the speeder or my knight :(

Next up will be some Mechanicus. I don't have any proper photos, but here are some wip taken with my iPhone. You might have to zoom in a little, for some reason they are blurry until you do.

Trying to a bit more ambitious with my shading. These castellan seem to be polarising but I think they are great fun. As always, love any thoughts you might have.

Glad to see you back San, we've missed you. That contemptor is achingly beautiful. Perfect balance between the golden yellow and the black, with the weathering tying it all together perfectly.

IMHO, I think the color red need a higher contrast to make it " pop". I use various shades or red orange to grade it up to the edging. Yellow is already bright and you could go white, but I've have more success with starting from a rust up to yellow.

Great job on weathering the hands. Spot on!

Think that robot looks pretty good. Like the green screen affect, very effective.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

The face screen is a wonderfully retro vibe for him. I think the red could be a bit brighter for Mechanicum (looks more Blood Angel-y), but would be happy with how it turned out.

San! This is fantastic stuff, I kept zooming in on different parts of the dread to get better looks at the detail, its incredible quality! I also cant tell you how much I approve of the display on the mechanicum robot's face, its a lovely touch.

Cannot wait to see more sir!

Fantastic to see you posting again.

Thank you guys so much!

@iceangel...mate...if i can find all the bits i will get it done soon!

@eggroll...welcome back to you too! i saw that titan....blown away. im nervous to be painting red with Eggroll around...

@GiraffeX adn Alaricuk - many thanks

@J-Paint and Whalemusic...im so glad you guys dig (and understood) the retro-bot visor! the model is just such a different aesthetic to the usual 40k stuff,...i had to do it. the question is - can i do it a second time for the next robot?

with the Robot - i guess it probably isnt the right red. i knida like it though...and should i ever want to paint up some blood angels well i guess i got a recipe

im in the process of painting up the second bot and their techno smith handler atm. I cant believe how much detail GW squeezed onto the smith. they really are fantastic models.

anyways, ive promised myself im going to post more pics this year. this will likely mean a great many progress pics. sorry guys, but i paint too slowly for it to be any other way! it's all iPhone work tonight...far too tired for setting up light box im afraid.

well, first up we got the second bot. shading and base coat of metals are done. i feel i should say at this stage that a mate and i have decided to try and add a bit of light narrative to our games. to that end i decided my Ad Mech would be part of a sub group (clade? chapter? sub directory? crazy admech...) of the Brass Cog . as such, you will see a lot of brass highlights, and the mechanicum symbol wont be black and white. just wanted a small point of difference....

so the bot...well, i cant decide if i like the guns or not (design wise) but i figure..one shooty, one punchy is the way to go hopefully this shows how ive tried to be more ambitious with my colour gradients. as you guys can see the red is quite a different shade before the varnish goes on. i havent had that kind of change with any other colour...anyone else have that happen? i mean...i prefer the red it changes to...i was just a bit surprised!

the next one is actually the model that got me interested in Ad MEch. well...mostly the ridiculousness of the gun. its outrageous and awesome. this guy is actually finished so you can see the basing i have planned. i kept it grey so they can field next to the Fists ok...but tried some different textures. the detail on these models are fantastic. i must apologise for the amount of glare..like i said they are quick iphone pics.

be well and happy painting

@solar lion - ty mate. There is a lot of metal on the top half of the figure and I thought I would try and break it up a bit.

@gitsplitta - sadly I lack conversion skills of any kind; this is the model that comes with the two castellan bots.

@eggroll and EDC - think you both very much,

Well just a quick update on the tech smith tonight. Worked the brass a bit more to try and bring a bit of lustre. Also, ,made a decision on the eyes and lamp. Ended up going fairly light to try and counter the overall dark tones.

Though it might be fun to show this weeks progress as a triptych so you could see the weeks changes at once

The Light/ Lens effect works well. A bit subtle but that's because we are use to the brighter effect everyone does. Nice.

I love the oscilloscope trace face on the robot, that is absolutely inspired!

Are you anywhere near Nerd? ( Like its a tiny country!!! ) You'll have to get a game in!
2 Aussies slugging it out - nothing better.

haha cheers mate. im glad you like it. the whole aesthetic has that kinda 50's robot from mars aesthetic...

we are a tiny continent! i wish we could...but sadly, no, Nerdy lives on the other side of the country to me. in fact..i think it would be hard for us to live further apart and still both be in Australia

well...today's upgrade is the last of the WIP for the smith. i think i'm ready to call it on him and move to basing. updates since last time: finished up a few of the finer details, dusted down the robe/skirt and gave him a spray of dullcoat. to be honest, the photos dont really capture the dusting on the coat well..but hopefully now you guys can see the shading etc. better. hope you like him - now onto finishing the other bot and building some bases!

Well folks, couple of wip shots for you today. Firstly, I started putting together some bases for the robots. These are just base coated at the moment.

Secondly, a good friend of mine bought me one of the tech smith dominus models. It is an absolutely amazing piece. I love the detail and the sense of menace the sculpt gives.

For kicks I thought you might like to see the base coating process. Honestly, I loved the initial greys so much he almost stayed that way.
