That never gets old.

Sometimes, when reading an Abnett novel (as I do still find them amongst the best of BL's products) I find myself getting attached to a character.

Then I remind myself who's writing the damned thing.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Well. Probably the first time I have ever said this but, after a year or two of really liking BL, yet having them muck about producing worse and worse stuff, and things that just don't interest me, combined with this thread just makes me lose my interest in them. *Unenthusiastic whoop*

Once upon a time I absolutely loved BL. Till they started shoving books that are fireplace material at their consumers, and spamming audio books. I like the summary of some of the audio books, many in fact.

However, I want an actual book in my hands. That's why I buy from a book store, I don't want some crappy ebook or audio drama gak that makes me feel weird just listening to it.

Matthew Farrer doing a Gaunt's Ghosts book? That has me genuinely excited.

Not as much as if he was doing another Shira Calpurnia book, or if they announced that Sandy Mitchell had returned from seeming limbo with a new Cain of Vail book, or that Phil Kelly passed off the Tau novel to Guy Haley instead, but a new Farrer book is good news for BL.

Farrer is good, but I don't see why they are having him write a Gaunt's Ghosts novel instead of playing to his strengths. I'd love to see him write about the intrigue among the navigator houses, or a story following a vital piece of information through the administratum bureaucracy. Maybe he really wants to write space Sharpe, and maybe he'll nail it out of the park, but I'd prefer he had the freedom that came from writing his own characters.

P:S: Still not over Bragg.

It's what made me stop reading at some point, plus it got old for me personally that they keep dragging this on for so long now.

No.

He'll be writing an Iron Snakes novel, that ties into the GHosts' story as they're fighting in the same area.

Touched on in the interview.

Mr Abnett is keen to still do it, but doesn't really have time right now and acknowledges that it'll be awkward to fit in both time and synergy wise.

What's he working on right now then? I take it the next Eisenhorn versus Ravenor book is at the editor right now for next year and he still writes for Marvel (right?), so is he working on more Horus Heresy?

Warmaster right now IIRC.

Several comic series on the go and computer game stuff too -- http://videogames.cosmicbooknews.com/content/dan-abnett-writes-dreadnought-video-game -

Next HH novel should be his DA "Dreadwing" or somesuch -- which will follow on from Unremembered Empire and also have some flashback/past events stuff.

Ravenor and Co. is coming but....?

But..? Maybe too much pressure to deliver a good ending? Writing the second book in a trilogy is never easy. I found the first instalment good, but a lot of it was really forced cameo stuff where Dan was trying too hard to tie everything together and name drop his other creations, I wanted to fling the book against the wall when the "I. AM. ALPHARIUS." thing happened.

But good on him to write more game stuff, I found Alien: Isolation a good game, though I'm sure that the ending was his idea.

A Horus Heresy audio drama

In the aftermath of the traitors’ Shadow Crusade into Ultramar, many systems are still plagued by isolated fleets and warbands left behind by their parent Legions. But Aeonid Thiel is a veteran of a hundred unremembered wars, and knows better than any other Ultramarine what it means to face his own kind on the field of battle – it falls now to him and a group of embittered ‘volunteers’ to face this lingering threat, and restore a lasting peace to the Five Hundred Worlds.

The depressing thing is there's enough numpties out there with more money than sense to buy all these super-ultra-special-mini-limited editions, so just like with GW proper it doesn't matter if a big chunk of us stop buying, as that group will just keep forking over more and more.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

Looky Likey

Looking at how well the limited editions are selling out by that link, or rather not selling out, was the last one that sold out within a day Talon of Horus? And before that???

They really aren't selling that quickly from what I can see outside of a few marque authors/titles.

I think we'll see a quantity drop and price increase on limited editions at some point once the current sales data hits the planning department (if they have one) as there are between 800 and 1000 people who will buy anything limited edition but the rest seem to be a bit more choosey. I really hope the scalpers get burnt with the failure to sell out as they don't help the situation at all.

Today I went in to get Kaine in GW as the BL site said today was the store release date. Apparently all sold out last week. I'm told a soft back will be out soon. I don't want a friggin softback. I felt sorry for the shop manager who is a good guy and did his best to try and extol the virtues of a softcover and a company who can't give me they produce. I've bought both hardcovers so far and I want to be allowed to collect what they produce. I am really really peeved off with GW. Is it any wonder their stock price has collapsed, any investment company who did 10 minutes of research into the company would see a furious and agitated customer base plastered all over the Internet. These little stupid decisions are slowly killing this company. It is so annoying!!!! Gggggggrrrrrrt!!!!

It's only the gaming/fluff book that is sold out and being rushed into reprint.

The Khaine novel is still available

http://www.blacklibrary.com/Warhammer/curse-of-khaine-hardback.html

but that too is getting a softback release in a few months.

But the under ordering of the books is pretty daft.

My local GW store had a grand total of 1 Khaine book delivered -- first come first served -- which doesn't help them or please their customers.

Hey readers,
Today we're looking forward to Friday and the release of a brand new Horus Heresy book.

The Seventh Serpent pits the vengeful warriors of the Shattered Legions, Salamanders, Iron Hands and Raven Guard, against the double-crossing duplicitous killers of the Alpha Legion.

This is the first limited edition Horus Heresy novella from author Graham McNeill – the series's most prolific author and writer of many of the classic novels so far in the series (False Gods, A Thousand Sons, Angel Exterminatus to name a few).
Check out the new trailer for the upcoming novella today, where you can get your first look at some of the new features and hear from Graham himself about the story of The Seventh Serpent.

The Seventh Serpent goes on sale this Friday at 1pm. Copies of this novella are limited to just 4,000 worldwide and expected to sell fast. To give yourself the best chance of securing a copy, set your reminder now, or sign up to Comm-Feed, the Limited Edition Text Reminder Service.

Black Library 2014 Advent Day 3 – Fabius Bile: Repairer of Ruin

Today’s Advent offering is a brand new Warhammer 40,000 audio drama. ‘Fabius Bile: Repairer of Ruin’ sees the Emperor’s Children Apothecary at his most brutal and maniacal as Josh Reynolds explores Fabius’s motivations in stealing Horus’s body...

‘Physician, heal thyself. And everyone else, while you're at it. The responsibility falls to me as the only sane man left in this benighted universe. I shall lift my light high, and guide my fellows from out of the grim darkness. It's the idealist in me, I think.’

That's all for today,
Thanks For reading.
