Hello everyone! Instead of creating many threads for all my different projects like I was going to, I've decided to just lump all my work together here. For starters, my Space Lizardmen, that I've posted here already: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/574432.page So I won't post those again, but aside from that, everything will go here.
I mentioned in that thread my Squats, so here they are! Now, something to know about these guys is that they were my first real 40k army that I started several years ago with my cousin, so some of this is newer work (several months old, when I just got back into the hobby), some of it's very old (when I FIRST got into the hobby), and a couple of the minis aren't even my work.
The concept for the army was that these guys survived the Tyranid splinter fleet that wiped out most of the Space Dwarf race, they were a single ship that just barely escaped, and drifted for weeks before they were rescued by a group of Grot scavengers that had rebelled against their cruel Ork masters. When they were saved by these generous greenskins, the xenophobic Squats realized they had spent centuries hating the wrong people; while they owed their lives to these brave little green men, the Imperium abandoned them to the Tyranids as a strategic move, allowing the entire race to be wiped out, as far as they knew. Now, armed with the mechanical expertise of the Space Dwarfs of old, the scavenging ways of the Grot Rebellion, and an assload of vengeance, the Squats took to hunting down the Ultramarine commander who gave the order to let them all die.
Most of their equipment is scavenged and salvaged from many different kinds of tech, Tau, Imperial Guard, Space Marine, Chaos, Ork (mostly this is because I built the Squats primarily out of spare bits, which mainly just made it more fun for me). They've taken in a handful of other aliens, either as hired mercenaries or just because they share their hatred for the Imperium (or the Tyranids). Their equipment is obviously extremely varied, but they all count as Space Marines, most of them using bolters.
Okay, enough chatter, now for the pictures!
First, the guy who used to be my Commander, he's probably a Sergeant now:
And then my actual Commander, a WIP obviously:
Now some group shots, and I'll shut up for a while:
This shot includes the Tarellian Dog-Soldier, I based him on this image: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/e/e4/Soldat_chien1.jpg
This guy is a walking funeral, basically. He holds all the items they could find that belonged to their fallen brothers:
Some Sergeants:
The Grudge Totem, representing everything they hate and fear. To be held by a Standard Bearer, probably:
As I'm sure you can tell by now, these guys are fueled largely by grief and vengeance.
Techmarine and Servitors:
I don't know how clear it is, but his powerfist has a flintlock pistol for an index finger.
Now the Terminators, my favorite part. These first three are by my cousin, from several years ago:
And now mine:
This guy's still kind of a WIP:
But I adore these guys:
I call the grot with the cape riding on back Batman.
Phew, that's all of them. (Well, actually there are some that my cousin and I made a long time ago that I haven't been able to find, including a Dreadnought, but I'll find them some day. I hope...)
Let me know what you think!
P.S. Tomorrow, I'll be posting some shots of my current project, an Adeptus Arbites army, as well as a G.I. Joe tank to Baneblade WIP! Stay tuned!

Okay, um, I guess you guys aren't into the Squats. That's okay. Today I have some shots of my current project, an Adeptus Arbites army! I roughly followed this guide for the basic troops, although I didn't go all the way with it as I felt that would be a lot of work for a whole army.
Anyway, pictures!
Here's everything I have built so far:
The army is actually IG with GK allies, and these guys count as Crusaders:
Here are the basic Arbiters, who are IG Veterans:
And the Company Command Squad:
I thought a Penal Legion would be appropriate considering they're space cops, why not put those boys you've rounded up to use? These are from Victoria Miniatures, a really nice kit:
I didn't do anything special to any of them, except switching out the Custodian's weapon for a modified lasgun:
Detail shots of the Riot Arbiters:
And a handful of the Shotgun Arbiters:
Nothing special about the tank, really, but I gave the same sculpting treatment to the Tank Commander's helmet, since I wanted to save the head it came with for something else:
Now, I definitely took shots of my Commander, but... For some reason the camera only had a back shot of her on it.
She's made of the long coat legs and power fist from the Cadian Command Squad kit, the idle shotgun from the Scout Bike kit, and the open jacket and the top left head from the Shadowforge Sci Fi Female Conversion Pack:
Anyway... Here's the Officer of the Fleet:
And the Master of Ordinance, also with parts from the Shadowforge pack:
And the rest of the Command Squad (who obviously still need heads):
I gave the guy with the Medi-Pack a little injection gun, just to make him look a little more like a real Medic, rather than just the guy with the first aid kid:
Here's my Nork Deddog counts-as:
Sculpting giant Flak Armor is a paaaaiiiiin. But I have 5 more Ogres to convert still...
I mentioned a Baneblade being built from a G.I. Joe tank, but I guess the thing is so shiny that too much glare came off of it for ANY of the pictures to look decent. So I guess I'll have to show you that another time.
I still have a lot left to build (and a lot more heads to sculpt... bleh), including the rest of the first Veteran Squad and another complete one, 5 more Riot Arbiters, and I need to find a suitable Inquisitor Coteaz counts-as.
Anyway, let me know what you think!

So I finally found a suitable mini for my Inquisitor Coteaz counts-as, Iron Kingdoms' Cygnar City Guard. I don't have pics of my own yet, but this is what it looks like:
I have both, and I'm not sure which of the two bodies to use, or what exactly I should do to them, so maybe I could get some input. The unassembled bodies look like this:
I've shaved off the rather fantasy/steampunk-looking pistols and some leather pouches to replace with 40k holstered pistols and ammo packs/grenades/etc. and removed the gap between their eye holes to create a long visor slit like on my soldiers, but I'm unsure how to approach their actual equipment. I have an unclaimed Scout Bike shotgun arm that I'm thinking about using on one of them, but 1. I don't know which one, and 2. I'm concerned that it'll look silly considering my IG commander has the same piece on her. What do you think?
Mind you, I do have to include a big hammer on the model as well to suit Coteaz's equipment (I realize he doesn't have a shotgun in the first place, but neither does my IG commander, it's just a really cool piece). So I could use the arm holding the axe that comes with the model on the "upright" one (the left one) and modify it into a hammer, and strap a bolt pistol to his chest or something, or I could replace his arm stub with the Scout shotgun and try to fit a hammer in that lowered arm of his. Or, I could use the "I'm gonna stab ya" guy (on the right) and simply put a bolt pistol in one hand a hammer in the other. OR I can replace HIS arm with the Scout shotgun, and fit the hammer in the other hand.
I realize this is probably hard to visualize without actual pictures, but my camera is giving me trouble, so... Hmm, you know what, let me draw it.
Okay, here are the options:
1.
2.
3.
4.
I hope that's clear enough. What do you think?

Nice, planning things out can make all the difference, if you already have a picture of what you want in your head the models will always turn out well. Id go with the straight armed variant unless you wanted one of those hammers you have planned as a 2 handed weapon and a shotgun slung over his back or something for one of them. they are some nice minis and im sure your sculpting/converting skills will bring them nicely into the 41st millennium .

Thanks, I hope so. I ended up choosing option 2, but I may also build option 4, since it's a separate mini and all, and see which I like more. I built the hammer last night, though, looks pretty good. Since this guy isn't a Daemon Hunter, (or even an Inquisitor) and thus doesn't need a Daemonhammer, I've decided to call it the CRIMEHAMMER. for SMASHING CRIMES. Almost makes me want to put a cyberdog on his base and call it McGruff.
Anyway, I'll try wrestling with my camera again today and see if I can get some shots of the Baneblade, not-Coteaz, and my IG Company Commander, since for whatever reason I only got the back view of her. (Thanks camera.)

You Go man Smash all the crimes you should definitely make him some kind of hound. it would be good if you did both #1 is more of a resting pose #4 looks like he is choosing which criminal to use his Crime hammer on could ad some cinematic effect if you had 2 poses of the same custom character.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the feedback.
My camera's still not cooperating so no new pictures, I don't know what the problem is. It only takes every tenth picture or so, and while I could eventually get all the shots I want, I'm just not that patient. I'll see about borrowing someone else's if I can.

Hi guys, update finally! Managed to borrow a camera, and I have permission to use it from now on as well. I'll start with the Judges (Coteaz counts-as), one of whom is mostly done, he just needs a cape. I didn't actually have any techy hammers, so I made this one out of a Kings of War Dwarf Ironclad warhammer and a few pieces of a Librarian's staff that I got in a random bits order, and a bit of striped cord from a Megabloks piece. The hammer looked clear on the camera's screen, but I guess I'll need to take some more shots tomorrow to show that off. Here's the other guy, who I've barely started on, aside from chopping off the axe blade: I don't have any more of the techy bits I used for the first guy's hammer, so I'll accomplish the power weapon look with these parts: Next, finally, the Baneblade! It's a WIP, obviously, but it's made from a G.I. Joe MOBAT. (Motorized Battle Tank-- clever, right?) Still to be added: More rivets, and a Demolisher cannon. Before I show the last thing, here's a guy I made just for scale purposes out of spare Command Squad parts. I call him The Unfortunate Guardsman: He's an inspiration to us all. Finally, I'd like to just show off this cool kit I got on eBay. It's an Academy 1/30 Terran Marine from Starcraft from 2001 or so, long out of production. The company even went under before they got to make more than 2 models from what was meant to be a complete line, as you can see on one of the sprues that the parts are meant not just for the Marine, but the Firebat and Medic kits, that don't exist. It's a shame, because it's pretty cool! Check it out: It's fully poseable (well, not fully, but much more than the stuff I'm used to working with), and it even has a head swap: Here he is next to Mr. Unlucky for scale: And here next to my tank: So obviously he's quite a lot bigger than what I'm used to, and pretty much entirely incompatible with it due to his giant head. Although with his helmet on... Heck, he could pass for some kind of giant exosuit. I probably won't use him, but it's fun to imagine. Anyway, thanks for looking! Let me know what you all think.

I like the squats, a few are a bit questionable but I'd definitely like to play something like this. That guy in your command squad with the greenstuff looks like a ninja turtle, lol. I'm sure when you paint him that will change, but if you plan to paint him turtle green expect some shouts of COWABUNGA. Still cool though.

Wowzer, the GI Joe tank looks huge - interested to see how you scale down this beast to fit with your Arbites...

Thanks! The MOBAT is standing in for a Baneblade, so the size isn't a problem, I don't think I'll be scaling it down any. Which is good, because I wouldn't know how to do that, haha.
Using the Marine for a squat dreadnought isn't a bad idea, if they need the extra points. At the moment I don't have anyone to play against, though, so I won't need it yet.

Ol' Crime hammer turned out realy well man, the vision slot in his helmet really ties him in with the rest of the troops .if you continue how you are going with the baneblade it will look great, very good spacing on the rivets. As for that giant marine, he is a very cool model and could easily tie in with the force you are building as a walker of some sort. great work man.

That Terran Marine is fantastic! I didn't know those were ever made! I'll be watching this MOBAT experiment with great interest! I think if you add lots and lots of sponsons with 40k scale weapons, it'll scale correctly (I think that's what Ruglud meant)

Pshhh, Dreadknight .... Ok, maybe. My Arbites ARE IG with Grey Knight allies... If that means altering the model, though, I probably won't do it. I bought the model just because I like Starcraft Marines, not for use in a conversion or anything. He'll probably just stand proudly on my shelf.

Hmm, I thought about doing sponsons, but the thing is I'm very new to using plasticard and I don't think I know how to do that. I can barely cut the stuff, it's so thick, I wouldn't know how to get the pieces right to construct something like that. Plus, there's not really any place to put them... The side-armor of the tank is only attached at the top, the rest just hovers apart from the body, so if there were sponsons on it, they wouldn't be attached to the actual hull of the tank, just to some armor plating, and that doesn't seem right.
I don't know. If I knew how to do it, maybe, but plasticard just doesn't seem to cooperate with me much.

Yes, Dave is right - scaling with additions such as weapons and hatches... Cutting plasticard is best done in several passes with a good sharp blade. I tend to use a Stanley knife for my cutting as the blade doesn't flex. Don't try to cut right through, but score it partially then flex it and it will break nice and clean... Also, get a selection of thickness in plasticard - maximum I use is 2mm, but majority of my builds are with 0.25mm, 0.75mm & 1.0mm. Any advice, just ask, there's loads of seasoned scratchbuilders on here with so many tips and tricks and they are all happy to share

Thanks for the reply-- The problem is the only thickness I've ever been able to find in stores is 1mm, which has been difficult for me to cut. It seems to me plasticard is a lot less available in the US, or at least in my area, even after I've started asking about "styrene sheets" instead of "plasticard" (since that's apparently what they call it in the US).
I suppose I'll have to start ordering it online if I want manageable thicknesses. I'll try out those sizes you mentioned. Thanks for the info!
