Not technically an army list post, but more a list of armies!
Not really after detailed lists just the types and any interesting features.
I started with Wood Elves, undead (skeletons back in the day), dwarf army which never was finished. Then I got sucked in by the 40k monster and threw my cash at orks then a really badly painted chapter of my own brand marines, have a beloved guard army that has grown over the years, dark angels, dark eldar a very small necron force that isn't really playable and my latest project an iron hands force with mechanicum allies!

For 40k: Chaos marines, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Orks, Guard, Black Templars, Witchhunters, (these were all pre-6th at least with the most being 4th ed) Grey Knights, and Blood Angels.
Fantasy: Hordes of Chaos, Beasts of Chaos, Wood Elves, High Elves, Dwarfs, Tomb Kings, Ogres, Empire, and Vampire Counts.
As you can see, I have done a lot with GW over the course of the 23 years i have been in their section of the hobby.

Warning From Magnus? Not Listening!

Started of w DA but the army had no proper structure and wasn't very well painted... Recently started DA 2.0 with some actual thought put into it.
Between now and then I've had;
- SW - a stupid wolf guard army that wasn't built to a list and gets tabled every game
- IG - which never got beyond a platoon
- Empire (fantasy) - quite a sizable force actually (nearly 5000pts I should think)
- WoC (also fantasy) - decent list build for a local tourney and then expanded from there
- Tyranids - which I haven't had the balls to pick back up yet (despite the cool new units)
- Tau - which I'm currently working on and sitting at about 500pts, aiming for around 2500 (no triptides or dataslates or anything like that I'll have you know)
- Alpha Legion (CSM) - started them at the same time as my DA 2.0 w a DV set (which I bought for the DA).
Edit:
- Oh and I forgot Orks - a little 1000pt force build more for P&M than gaming purposes
- And Bretonnians (fantasy again) - from ages ago
Edit 2:
- Siege Lords - how did I forget my Siege Lords?! My beloved C: SM chapter with a developed fluff and everything
About to start an HH army, or rather a P&M project with HH units from pretty much all the Legions, plus the IA and some other factions such as the Sisters of Silence
So yeah... I've had my fair share

My first army was Lizardmen (13 years ago) and my second was Tyranids. Here's a list of the others that I've collected (and mostly traded) since then: (the edition listed was the current BRB edition when I started the army) 40k: Tyranids (first army, 3rd edition; traded) Eldar (DIY Craftworld, 4th edition; traded) Chaos Space Marines (red Corsairs, 4th edition; sold) Necrons ("Christmas Crons", they all had sculpted santa hats and the Monolith had tree lights - 4th edition; sold, regrettably) Eldar (Saim-Hann jetbikes & mech, 5th edition; traded) Tau (DIY Sept, 5th edition; traded) Orks (Bad Moons, 5th edition; traded) Space Wolves (1st Great Company "Loganwing", 5th edition primary tournament army; still have & play) Space Marines (Crimson Fists, 5th edition; sold) Eldar (Orange/Yellow "Fire Dragon Aspect Shrine", all mech, 5th edition; still have & play) Blood Angels (mech, AV13 wall (Vindis & Baals), 5th edition; traded) Chaos Space Marines (Death Guard, 5th edition; traded for a ton of Bikes) Dark Angels (Ravenwing, 5th edition; traded for a bunch of Valhallans and a Baneblade) Space Marines (Howling Griffons, still have , 5th edition; don't play) Dark Eldar (Allies for my Eldar, still have, 6th edition; don't play) Blood Angels ("Nipplewing", Dante & 30 Sanguinary Guard; Still have, 6th edition; don't play) Imperial Guard (Valhallans, 6th edition; still have & play) Tyranids (2nd ed models only, 6th edition; my current project) Fantasy: Lizardmen (first army, 5th edition; traded for gaming PC) Wood Elves (My favorite army to this day. I miss it dearly. 6th edition, played through 7th; traded for WoC, below) Bretonnia (small army; played briefly, then traded) Night Goblins (200+ Skull Pass night gobbos with purple robes, 7th edition; traded for 60+ bretonnian knights and a bunch of peasants. I regret that trade to this day.) Bretonnia (tons of knights and peasants, 7th edition; converted into VC) Vampire Counts (Bretonnian Blood Knights and Black Knights, peasant zombies, damsel necromancers, 7th edition; sold) Warriors of Chaos (All khorne, 8th edition; traded for Dark Elves. loved this army, very fun to play) Dark Elves (never played or painted, 8th edition; traded for 2nd ed Tyranids) I happily have no more WFB armies at the moment, outside of straggler units that remain in my closet. The 40k armies I still have (SW, SM, BA, IG, Eldar, DE, and Nids) are either fully painted or being actively worked on.

Started off playing Space Marines as I was not aware that there was a BA Codex. In every list I took with SM Codex I always had at the minimum 2 Assault Marine squads. The Owner of the FLGS saw the trend and showed me the BA codex. Have never turned back.
I also started a Nid army but lost interest in it fairly quickly.
Just today I picked up a GK army and have a small amount of modeling and painting to do with it.

40k- Chaos, guard (VERY small start that was given up due to lack of funds buying mordians), Blood angels (given up early due to lack of interest), eldar (large army built but paid someone to paint them (their army looked great) but When I finally got as much of it as I could back through threats of violence and even then, much was missing, found that he had done a crappy job not even using the colors I had given him so I gave that entire army away out of disgust, guard again, grey knights and marines (generic so I can use whatever "codex" I wanted
Epic- All of them, the smallest army being 15k worth of models the largest being over 40k worth of models. Played during the 'space marine' era before they totally redid the system.
Fantasy- Undead, chaos

Many.
I started out in my LOTR days collecting skirmish forces of 20-40 models for Gondor, Rohan, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Goblins, fallen men and Uruk Hai. The LOTR SBG magazine helped a lot here, giving me sizable forces for almost every faction.
From there I went to Fantasy, and still have a 2.5k point High Elf army I haven't bothered to use or update in years.
Then with 40k I started with Ultramarines, then went on to get BA, GK, SW, DA and IF, into which my original Ultras got repurposed. I then got a sizable IG army before returning to UM with the new SM dex. I've also dabbled with Inquisition after my local store had a 50% sale, and I just grabbed a bunch of random kits.
I also have everything currently available for Mantic's Deadzone.
I still have all these armies, and am rapidly running out of space.

Sybarite Swinging an Agonizer

Goes as follows:
1. Imperial Guard in early third edition.
2. Created a small Necron force when their third edition codex came out.
3. Necron force fell by the wayside and tried my hand at Blood Angels. Paid a friend to paint them, but his younger brother destroyed the models and I got discouraged.
4. Picked up Eldar from a friend when he wanted to switch to the new Daemonhunter book.
5. While I continued playing Eldar I tried my hand at a short lived Tau force when the army first came out to see how they worked.
6. The fourth edition Eldar codex was a huge disappointment when it was released (in my Biel-Tan eyes) and I sold them.
7. Had a ton of fun when I started fourth edition Tyranids.
8. Was given a Chaos Nurgle force (still with 3.5 rules out) that I played on occasion for fun.
9. I gave the Nurgle force back when my friend returned, but was sold a cheap as dirt Ork army while home away from college.
10. Was sold a sizeable Necron force (that I would later give to my wife to use).
11. Dabbled with Witchhunters.
12. Gave my brother the Tyranids and built a Space Marine drop-pod force.
13. Gave up 40k for about a year. I sold the Orks, gave the Space Marines to my brother, and put the Necrons away in storage.
14. The Dark Eldar release is what tempted me back into the game and are the army I still actively play. Even after years they give me a challenge. Taking apart enemy battle-lines is like a mini-puzzle game.
15. I picked up a small Tau force when the sixth edition book dropped, but they do not get out often as I feel like a jerk for putting them on the table. I wanted an army which didn't take as much thought to play on days when I was not up for devising grand strategies (while not being marines), but bit off more than I could chew. I can hardly pull out a Devilfish before getting called WAAC.
That is about where I am now. I have been around the block. XD
TLDR; Imperial Guard, Necrons, Blood Angels, Eldar, Tau, Tyranids, Chaos, Orks, Witchhunters, Space Marines, and Dark Eldar.

Not quite, i don't own, and probably never will own the GK codex, however, originally, 5 Grey Knight terminators were 1500 points, and provided you managed to get your psychic powers off turn 1, were pretty much unkillable, throw into the mix a tooled up character, and you could slaughter whole armies without taking a single wound

Tau. Always Tau from 3rd edition. Although I have played one game with the 4th edition Chaos Space Marine codex where I took Typhus in front of a giant blob of plague marines, another small squad of plague marines, and 3 obliterators (that was my entire army. I think we were playing 1,250 or some such). Dang that was hilarious and fun. Oh, and I'm starting a very small Convergence of Cyriss army in Warmachine, but so far I've only played one game, because none of my friends play it, which is rather a shame.
