Ehem anyway, probably the one thing that would put me off the series would be this, it seems so stupid and forced, i'm sure it was meant to be from the start.

thats from a G1 pilot called Rescue at Midnight Castle (also known as Firefly's Adventure)
ironically had a villain that wanted to bring eternal night... and threatened to decapitate Spike
in this we see the human Megan, and Applejack being rescued and sung to by the Sea Ponies

and if you read/hear most any interview with Lauren Faust she will tell of her original idea and sketches of a redone G1, (and using the G1 concept of villains and grand adventures, different then the current running G3.5 which...well was much less focused on adventure and more on things being pink, they did have one adventure but wussed out very quickly)
Hasbro didn't own any of the old names (save Applejack and Spike) so had to use G3 names (Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rariy and Fluttershy) Twilight (G1) was supposed to be Twilight Twinkle but I don't think they owned the rights for that one either so she became Twilight Sparkle.

She did reuse a lot of the old designs for the new mane 6 (Fluttershy looks like Posey but with wings, Pinke Pie uses Surprise's cutie mark instead of the g3 Pinkie Pie, Rarity's colour is more akin to Sparkler, they did however want a Rainbow Dash, though g3 Rainbow Dash's character was given to Rarity, and G4 Rainbow Dash was originally supposed to be Firefly.
Lauren's original drawings were on her deviant art page until she got the job for MLP, but they are all over the net.
Though a lot of the toys still are done in g3 style, which is odd

The toys haven't changed cause retooling is expensive.

Dream sequence. Before season three started there was a bunch of spoiler stuff that the makers talked about in a con panel. One of the things they said was happening in S3 was Fluttershy turning into a dragon, which hasn't happened yet. If that doesn't happen in next weeks episode, the only one before the finale, then I'm guessing there's some kind of dream state/hallucination which includes Fluttershy being a dragon and Twilight as an Alicorn.

Sounds plausible. Never watched the show myself, as my parents wouldn't be too pleased if they found out, but that does seem possible. If it ever happens, hilarity will definitely ensue.

If your parents are displeased over a TV show you enjoy, they need to think about their priorities. My dad is more worried about my degree and job prospects than the fact I like ponies.

I know, When i found out who voiced my Favorite pony, I looked her up.

I never delved much into Pony OCs, other then using toy-only ponies as characters in a little spin off story of a weird g 3.5 fanfic (where they go on a real adventure to release this weird wish granting star so it doesn't suffer for eternity after their Ponyville was demolished to make way for a new one...people liked it though, should finish it)
