I wanted to edge my tokens, pilot inserts etc in black, cos I've seen some, and they looked a lot better than bare fibreboard. I ordered a brush tip sharpie to do the job, which was fairly expensive as far as markers go. Sadly, the pen ran out before I had a quarter of my stuff done. (Last sharpie I ever buy...)

All I had left in the house were a couple of black dry-wipe markers, so I thought I'd give them a go. Although they aren't 'permanent', the ink soaks into the fibres around the edge well. They gave a much better black than the sharpie, and anywhere I accidentally went onto the printed part, it just wiped off.

So save your pennies and just buy a cheap ass black dry wipe marker.

I have always used regular Sharpies, for when I do papercraft buildings and models (coloring the fold lines where white paper shows). For thicker things like tokens in X-Wing, I just use one of the fat chisel-point Sharpies. All available in any normal office supply store/section.

For papercraft where I might actually want to match a certain background color versus just black, I bought a set of colored Sharpies.

yeah,
Sounds Good can you post some Photos of your tokens?
Have you tried other colours?

I used the expensive oil based sharpies.
They seem to seal the edges together but take a bit of effort going I gave every token two coats.Sexy Tokens

Regular sharpies will do just fine. I went a step further and after marking the edges I brushed superglue along all the edges, which soaks in and hardens like plastic which keeps them from fraying. My templates and tokens are nearly as resilient as acrylic, look better and only cost me about $1.50 in glue plus a few hours work while watching TV

I'm afraid my bro is away with my usual camera, and it's not too clear with the iPad's one, but you might be able to see the reddish tinge on the asteroid edge, compared to the (in my opinion), more natural black from the dry wipe pen on the manoeuvre dial.

It's fair to say that everything just looks more finished with a black edge! Incidentally, the dry wipe marker I started with did the other 3/4s of my stuff, and shows no sign of being remotely finished. I appreciate sharpies are getting a bit of love, but I thought it was pants.

Not tried colours panic. I'll maybe test one on a bit of leftover fibre 'sprue' when my next bunch of stuff arrives.

Yeah,
Eggs They look great.

Kalamadea - Super glue sealing! for now the sharpie paint seems to be protecting mine.
But I've that starts to fray I'll considering varnishing mine...
I've had a few spray varnish horror stories and don't want to try that so maybe a brush on matt varnish?

Panic...
