Subject: Dreadball Veer-myn: Overpowered?

I don't normally play Dreadball a lot, or post on this particular forum, but I need an answer. After playing a quick Dreadball game today, and winning by 4 points, my opponent kept claiming that the Veer-myn are overpowered. I don't believe that really, but in case I am wrong, are they? I used 4 Strikers and 2 Guards, whilst he played with the Orx team, with 3 Jacks and 3 Guards. So, am I OP? Is he just playing an under-powered team or just blowing things out of proportion? Thanks!

His Orx team should have been able to crush you. I think Veer'Myn are the weakest team in the game, honestly. I have had terrible times with them, but have done well with every other team I've played. Based on what you've said, he's just being a sore loser.

Veer-myn definitely aren't overpowered, they only really have one trick (run for the 3 point zone and hope you score). At 5+ skill a passing game is risky as is a bonus point shot from the 1 point scoring zones. Aggressive defence of the 3 point zone can stuff you right up. I do find Orx can be tricky to play well though due to the limitation of no strikers (but I'm guessing not as tricky as he did if he hadn't beaten most of your strikers to death by the final rush).
My rats are one of my favourite teams though, if only for their ability to nimbly evade past half the opposing teams' threat zones to get into a high-scoring position and then wildly hurl the ball into the crowd instead of the strike zone.

I love the Orx. Nobody crumps better than them. They're actually my favorite of the originals. I find them disgustingly powerful if you play them right: ignore the ball, and grind your opponents into dust, THEN worry about scoring when everybody is in the injury box.

I've been known to forfeit whenever Veermyn make it to the table. I don't even make it to the assembly or painting stage.

*slow round of applause*
Yeah, the first round of Veermyn really were awful to prep/assemble. Yuck.
That said, i'll be another vote for "sour grapes". My wife plays Orx and they legitimately need to be played like a piledriver. They smash everything, and when they have the inevitable numbers advantage, they worry about scoring.

It sounds to me like your friend needs to learn how to play Marauders. I will be honest, when I played my first couple of games I was using them and I got wrecked every. Single. Time.
It was frustrating..then I went to the Mantic forums and read up on tactics, made the realization that the Marauders are all about smashing the opposing team before they even begin to worry about scoring. Set up your Jacks to interfere enemy Strikers and distract the ref, then smash everyone with the Guards.

Definitely. Not having a striker makes it more difficult to score, so the less opposing players that are around to pick up the ball after you miss, the better!
Don't think Veer-myn are overpowered at all. Only team I have found to be OP are Judwan, every time I played them lost by a blow-out 7-0, I just couldn't injure enough of them to prevent them scoring each and every time they picked up the ball.
Although, I have read that the rules for them have now been amended?

Yeah, judwan are now only speed 4+ instead of 3+. So less chance of them dodging everywhere.
Plus the newer ball launcher cannon rules mean they just can't stand on the centreline to grab the ball when it launches anymore.

Ah, great!
Can I ask where you have seen the updated rules for these? Had a look on the Mantic website but couldn't see anything.

They're actually published in the 'Ultimate Dreadball' book, however they're also part of Jake Thornton's FAQs at http://quirkworthy.com/faqs/.
