It's not much, to tell the truth.

Honestly though, GotG is the Marvel movie I can't wait to watch.

Wow, it really is a trailer for the trailer which I guess comes out tomorrow. Not sure what I think of this one yet... I did see a full trailer for it at the theater, but it didn't sway me either way.

Yep, convinced. Not that I wasn't already, of course, but I need this film to happen.

I'm up for this - I'm hoping for fun sci-fi action in the spirit of the original Star Wars.

No over thinking, no moralising, no "message", just good laughs.

A lot of people seem to be fans of Rocket, but Starlord is honestly why I want to see the movie.

Nothing to do with the actor, only two I recognize are Vin Diesel and Zoe Saldana

Peter Quill / Star Lord is played by Chris Pratt who is brilliantly funny in Parks and Recreation.

Bradley Cooper (Rocket) is pretty damn famous - The A-Team, The Hangover, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle etc

I don't recognise the big guy with the tattoos, but I understand he's a wrestler or somesuch.

Do Americans watch their own TV shows and films?

Same, but add older shows and terrible horror movies I find trawling Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime.

Honestly, I don't think a movie with no message exists. Anyways I'm excited for this as this looks quite different thematically from a lot of other Marvel movies.

I guess there's a difference between a movie that has a message (Jurassic Park) and a movie that preaches at you, banging you over the head with its points until it becomes painful (Avatar).

Agreed, some movies are better than others at conveying a message, have something more substantial to say than others, are more subtle about it, etc.

Me too. I thought that'd be one of the things they just left out, but nope, Marvel wanted to go Cosmic with their movies, so they're going Celestial as well!

So we can actually add to the comparison with DC's shortcomings:

DC is having trouble getting Wonder Woman to screen. Meanwhile Marvel has a film about a talking Raccoon and his talking sentient Tree friend, and they have a base inside the severed head of a giant celestial being.

Yes, DC (or Warner Bros at least) have a tendency to overthink things rather than focusing on putting together a fun adventure story.

This is where Marvel is doing so much better and it helps that they understand their stories better than a typical studio would so they can throw some of the random stuff (Racoons et al) into the mix.

I did enjoy Nolan's Batman and he produced a very effective version of the story, but by the conclusion of the trilogy, I was ready for something a bit more light hearted. Step forward the Avengers.

Having read the plot summary on Wikipedia it definitely sounds like there's a message to it, either way it sounds interesting I ought to see it.
