Imperator titan. 8k points I believe? 8d6" strength D explosion when it goes down. Twenty-something STRUCTURE POINTS.

1400 points of EW/MW Italians (FoW)
2200 points of SoB and Inquisition (40K)
1000 points of orks (40K)
Just starting out with Ultramarines (30K)
Four 1000-2500 point forces for WHFB (RIP)

The Imperator did have rules as a datasheet on the GW site before they were all taken down, it cost 4000 points base, was equipped with massive versions of the weapons used by smaller titans and could carry either two Deathstrike Missile Launchers (Except it could fired more than once and could be fired every turn), two Vulcan Mega Bolters or an additional Two Turbo-Laser Destructors. It also had a massive array of Hydra Flak Guns (I think it had six sets, if I remember correctly) and had a transport capacity of 56 models, all of which could fire from the titans legs. Further adding to its massive firepower.

I don't suppose you know where one could download said data sheet?

1 tau manta 960 gbp ($1604 usd)

1,000 pts, and I think it's well worth it for a super heavy flyer with over 12 structure points and AV14 all around.

The Manta is by far the largest model that Games Workshop has ever produced, and by a long way too! The Manta measures 630mm/25 inches long and has a wingspan of 860mm/34 inches! Weighing in at 12.5 kilos/28 pounds, it weighs six times as much as a Thunderhawk Gunship, and that is before we put all the tanks and Battlesuits inside.

The Manta has been designed to have a fully working and detailed interior and has two decks: the upper deck is where
you will find forty-eight seated resin Fire Warriors
and six Gun Drones,
overseen by a seated Tau Ethereal.
They exit through doors that retract into the walls and then down to the landing zone via the hidden extendable ramp. On the lower deck are
eight Tau Battlesuits,
two Devilfish troop carriers
and two Hammerhead battle-tanks.
This whole deck drops down so the vehicles and Battlesuits can disembark and deploy rapidly. Further forward, towards the nose, four Air-Caste systems operators and two pilots control the prodigious amount of firepower that the Manta can
bring to bear on the enemy: sixteen Long-Barrelled Burst Cannon,
six Long-Barrelled Ion Cannon,
two Heavy Rail Guns,
Missile Pods
and battery of Seeker Missiles
as well as a Networked Markerlight turret.
The kit includes two Devilfish, two Hammerheads, eight Battlesuits and six Gun Drones.

I think any big tyranid beast would be pretty expensive to own, uncountable credits to keep it contained, fed and not counting the hive fleet you stole it from trying to get it back, or it spawning into more tyranids. I think it would put a huge dent in a pocket, but man, the emperor really wanted to ride that heirophant into battle.

I think the original Imperator Titan ( epic ) had completly different primary weapons. Not sure what they were but I remember the options of charging one with different options based on the power of plasma from it's internal reactor.

I'll have to pull out theold game sheets

It's 2000p, only 3 Long-Barreled Ion Cannons (but Twin-linked), 1 TL Missile Pod. Aside that, you're correct. It has 4++ and people fire at it normally.

I believe its 8 carpice mounted titan level weapons like volcano cannons, turbo lasers, vulkan mega bolters and other good stuff.
Potential for 10 strength d weapon systems some multi rounds per turn.

Gooy firepower goodness!

The single most expensive model is the Emperor Battle Titan. It cost 4000pts. It was availible online for free it is no longer.

It had 9(!) Void Shield and 12 Structure points, which equates to 36(!!!)HP. This is comparison to the Warhound Titan who had 2VS and 3SP/9HP, Reavers who had 4VS and 6SP/18HP, and the Warlord with 6VS and 9SP/27HP.

It could be equipped with any 2 arms weapons from

Plasma Annihilator
Rapid
Rg 96"
Str 8
AP 2
Ordnance 6, Large Blast

Full Power
Rg 120"
Str 10
AP2
Ordnance 3, Large Blast

Hellstorm Cannon
Rg 96"
Str 9
AP3
Ordnance 8, 7"Blast

Vengeance Cannon
Rg 360"
Str D
AP 2
Heavy 4, 10" Blast

Doomsday Missile Launcher
Rg 36"-540"(!!!). That's 45ft.
Str 8
AP 3
Apocalyptic Barrage (10)

It could also take 6 hull mounted weapons, with a minimum range of 36" each, from the following

Volcano Cannon
Turbo Laser Destructor
Quake Cannon
Apocalypse Missile Launcher
Vulcan Mega-Bolter
Vortex Support Missile
Plasma Destructor
Laser Gatling
Gatling Blaster

The original question was "What's the MOST expensive and powerful unit in the entire GW universe to own?"

I read it as "What is the most expensive, price wise, model that has actually been officially created for 40k games?"

The answer is in fact the Tau Manta, 2,000 points, $1600 usd, and physically the largest. (per GW/FW statement).

Now, you want to get crafty and talk epic titants in a 40k game? Why stop there? Why not BFG in 40k?

The most powerful ships are kept totally in secret shipyard-crypts such as the Caelan Class Sunderer vessel (rumored to be able to fire and annihilate any target in any time or location, far too powerful to used except by the Emperor Himself, and other powerful doomsday-class voidships.

Just one can destroy a planet, for a 40k game you don't even need a model (it's in orbit after all), and it'd be in the 10s of 1,000s in points for just 1.

Better yet, how about a chaos god? 100s of 1,000s of points &, after all, your a god that nothing can stop!

Sad thing is that warmaster titan can be reliably taken out with 750 points of DE wyches equipped with haywire grenades...

Sure, it's big, it's expensive and it puts out a tremendous amount of firepower but it's not going to survive against a bunch of half naked elves.

Spoiler:

You may not be able to tell but it has lights inside the eyes and is covered in Guardsmen. It's still in the window at GW Manchester.

As for the most powerful GW unit, it would have to be something from BFG. A space hulk was pretty evil, although a Blackstone Fortress could destroy a planet.

A fully loaded Manta is the most expensive. However, if you want to be pedantic you could create a "super-unit" by combining every Imperial independent character into a single squad, using multiples of the non-unique ones to get to the points level you want. Anyone want to work out what points cost every named Imperial IC comes to?
