I concur with Salvage, the very first thing my eyes stopped on was the red picked out on the bolter barrel, and though I can't really explain why (never been a master of art theory and color wheel whoseywhatsits) I really, really like it. Coupled with the bit of detail on the belt/stomach picked out in the red, it really really looks great. All your stuff looks killer so far, keep it up!

I'm going to disagree here. I know what you're saying, and I don't think it would make it look bad or anything. In some ways, it would be the logical thing to do.

But I think that the paint job really works as is. It's got a look to it that I can only describe as painterly, and it's something I don't really see often on miniatures. In this case, I think it works really well. I feel like that at this point, this army has somewhat of a unique, artsy style that sets it apart from a lot of other armies. I feel like another level of highlights would just make look like one of the many other well-painted armies out there, and some of the stylistic uniqueness it currently has could be lost.

I think that would be a shame.

But please, keep up the good work!

A very characterful 1K Sons army. From your basic Marine to the converted vehicles, each model really exemplifies the look and feel of the 1K Sons. Thanks for posting your army in progress. It definitely helps me get motivated to get back to working on my 40K army in progress.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

your painting is immaculate as are your modelling skills, nice work. The only thing I don't like is the NMM, but I don't like any NMM as it never looks like metal.

I especially love the rhino, thats some nice work and really fits in with their design well (I never spiked up my rhino's for the Thousand Sons either, they always seemed the "classiest" of Chaos cults to me).

Golden Demon standard?? I can barely paint Great Unclean One standard!

thx for the reply, i dunno if i already metioned, but i dont use NMM, the color is just yellow, and not NMM gold

the yellow is strong. I usually wait until like now when you tell me though. Commenting on NMM sometimes is like asking a larger woman when she's due. You either get an answer (or in our case, "it's supposed to be yellow"), or you get your nose smashed in because she was only a little fat (or "it's not yellow, it NMM gold! duh!)

but I wasnt sure if the bolter casings were supposed to be NMM or just a cold grey.

Your Rubric Marines are inspiring in their clean/immaculate paint. Tzeentch looks great with the clean colors. Your horror is looking quite nice also.

It's nice to see Thousand Sons getting some love at long last, with some top-notch conversion work to boot. To be honest I get a lil sick of people saying that Nurgle always has the best conversion opportunities, I've always thought Tzeentch should hold that trophy (what with being the master of all change 'n all)

I'm in total awe of your Defiler, can't wait to see it all painted up

Ah!

Superb work on the spidertank, wow. The red demon head and green TK standard (with 1 white tooth?) stand out nicely for me, amongst all the awesome blue & yellow. Given how long it took me to paint my mostly-black-and-metal defiler, I'm in even more awe of this critter!

Great stuff. The Defiler conversion is astoundingly effective. Impressive but understated, as I've always felt TSons should be.

The Sons dread is a great model. I need to pick up a couple more for my Sons(I've got one so far as 2 DCCWs) when I go to Games Day LA. I think I'm gonna walk out of there with something like 6 FW Dreads(2 Sons, DA, BT, GK Mark IV, and GK MK V)
