Edit with a PS: The Legion of the Damned are indeed going to be metal. I saw the slide for a little longer later that day (maybe 5 seconds, lol) and the model was resin, not a green, with extra details being added with GS.

Thanks for the info! I was just digging all my old LotD minis out the other day. Do the new ones look like they will fit well with the old ones? Did they have arms on them? Weapons? Was the resin model a "standard" Marine with GS bits, or did it look like a new sculpt?

It's a modern "standard" marine with GS adds and modern versions of the weapons(couldn't tell from the pics if the bolters had extras or not, but probably do). I want to say that they showed a Bolter(definite) and a Flamer marine(may have been another bolter).

Let's just pretend I'm very slow on the uptake, please explain what you mean as I still don't quite follow you.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.

Plastic Stompa? 19 sprues and trying to work it down to a managable number? Is this a big horrible joke you're trying to play on us greenskin players?

We keep hearing a little rumor here and there, saying there is one, then there's not... The not knowing which tale is true is killing me!

I would be very surprised if it was true - though jumping for joy to be proven wrong. I thought that the main reason the Baneblade was released was because there are so many factions that can use it, that it was a sound kit to release. Easy to make the master mold money back, essentially. But a Stompa. That's only one faction and not one of the biggest ones to GW at that. AND it would only likely ever be used in Apoc games, marginalizing it a bit more.

In the main seminar it was asked if there would ever be more Super-Heavies. The answer they gave was that the Baneblade was easy because it can be used by so many armies, but they then went on to say that they were pretty certain it would not be the last super-heavy they make.

I don't think it is entirely unreasonable that a Stompa could be the next super-heavy they make even though it belongs to only a single faction.

Well, for the record, my info came from the head of trade sales, not some flimsy account manager in training trying to sound cool to his new customers, and he's (the head of trade) a guy I used to game with before he joined GW (he's from AZ) so I hope he's not just plain lying...

He said what I mentioned above, and something I forgot to mention up there was that they are trying to incoporate some of the stompa pieces to be also part of the battlewagon kit as well, so that the sprue(s) can be multiple use. Again, I can't say whether its true or not, just can relate what i was told...

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

Clever Ork players have been building their own Stompers for years.

When this new kit comes out, clever Ork players will buy one and use it to make two.

Maybe. But awesome players will buy two and use it to make ONE.

What the Stompa might be is the gateway drug to get some players to buy into Orks, so it might be worth it from a loss leader standpoint.

That is for the bean counter analysts to work out. If it does exist, I want to see it, and though I don't play Orks, I'd probably get it.

And that's from someone who hasn't bought a Baneblade (and won't until I get the Vulcan option).

That's actually a pretty cool idea. Expensive and crazy, but a cool idea nonetheless.

The Stompa definitely exists at least. When I was still at GW it was done. Then there was the long list of issues with the production, sprue count, and other things. But it has been sculpted and produced. Now we just have to wait and see if it will ever actually be released. There have been many things over the years that are made, but they don't actually come out to the public! Here's keeping our fingers crossed this isn't one of them!

Thanks, Jeff. I recognize GW does make some things that just aren't fiscally responsible to put into full production. The Stompa is an interesting conundrum. I imagine the upfront cost to sculpt, build, develop, R&D a stompa kit is significantly higher than smaller, simpler models and test designs. So they've invested quite a bit already. That said, 17 sprues is an immense fiscal undertaking, and necessitates an absurd cost perhaps.

I'd love to see something that Orkish get a release. Their fans certainly deserve a bone, though this would be an expensive one.

We'll see what the beancounters say. Or maybe we won't.

A stompa really seems like something that Forgeworld should be doing, instead of GW proper with a plastic kit. Other than a couple of photos of some upcoming small resin upgrades for trukks, I'm surprised FW hasn't come out with some ork products.

ha, so when they told me way back when at the apocolypse release that a stompa was in fact being built they were not full of it. They just were wrong when they said the pics in the book were the actual stompa. Its funny how things get twisted when people play telephone witha rumor.

But, I really hope it comes out, that would be such a sweet sweet kit.

I personally wish that Forgeworld resources would be put towards plastic instead of resin. The resin kits are unnecesarrily expensive and it means that there's less of a chance GW will produce it in plastic since the model has already been "released" so to speak.

I loathe working in resin, it's way overpriced, and lacks the customizability of plastic. Also, anime model kits are huge and in plastic, so it's not like it can't be done. Look at the perfect grade models from Bandai. And those are only between $100 and 150. Not exactly expensive for GW, but a lot less than Forgeworld.

Forgeworld models have a lot of "carries" which can't really be done with the standard plastic molds.

And plastic requires a greater expense to set up and they would need to sell far more than FW does to break even.
