I hear a katana can cut through a tank.
They're made out of a material that's harder than anything that's ever existed, and they can't even be made anymore, because they lost the secret formula, and someone with a real Japanese katana could totally beat someone with a gun in a fight, if they trained a lot.
Srs you guise i red it on intrnet.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |

Like others:
Motorcycle: $17,000 up front, yearly ownership costs - definately more expensive.
Guitars: Guitars&Amps have high initial cost, low continuing cost, until you want another one. One good instrument (either the guitar or the amp) is comparable in cost to one army.
Music collection/appreciation: Approx $15/week for the last 20 years on CDs, concert tickets for two run between $100-300 for a night out, depending on the band and venue.
Chicago Bears games: Season tickets for my wife and I run $1300/year, for 10 home games, at about 3 hours/game, so that's about $45/hour for that entertainment. GW definately cheaper.
I dunno, in terms of cost per hour of entertainment, GW really isn't that bad. I can spend $10 to go to a movie for two hours, or I can spend $35 on a box of models that will give me five hours (or more) of enjoyment before they ever see the tabletop, that will serve on the field of battle when called for two hours/game, and that, in all honesty, I can probably recoup at least 80% of the cost by selling them on eBay if I tire of them.

Buying ammo every week, range fees, buying new gun models are expensive as all get out. That is my other expensive hoby. You figure with upgrades, mods, customizations, I spend waaaaay more on shooting and cgun collecting than I do on war gaming.

Don't have time for another hobby. I have a family instead! And they cost WAY more than any hobby you could possibly imagine. Except maybe powerboat racing. Or perhaps a solo moonshot!

Out of curiousity, what do you think of Cold Steel and their stuff?
Well I hope this doesn't get things off topic
I have to admit, I have a few knives by Cold Steel (Recon Tanto, 4" Ti-lite, shovel, kukri, ect). Some of their stuff is ok for the price, but honestly, I haven't spent my money on CS in a long while. There is better stuff for the money out there. Both Spyderco and Kershaw (and Benchmade, but their prices usually run a little bit higher) have knives that are excellent values.
Cold Steel has made a transition to AUS-8A and VG-1. While not a bad steels ( imo), they are outclassed by the steels other knife makers are providing for good prices. You can get VG-10 and CPM S30V from Spyderco, CPM 154cm from Benchmade, CPM D2 and 14C28N from Kershaw, all for a good price and all (apart from VG-10 which is a Japan exclusive) are made in USA. Cold Steel has shipped a lot of their production over seas, and while other knife companies have certain models made over seas, you can easily get affordable (and high quality) American made knives. Now granted, not every cares where their products are produced, hell I shop at Target and virtually everything there is made in China. But I try to buy American made knives mostly (I do buy some Japanese and European knives as well) since it is a smaller industry and I feel that US made knives are at the forefront of innovation.
Sadly, I do not delve into the world of custom knives (yet, once I get out of school and start making money ). There are some *awesome* custom knife makers out there, real artists.

@BoxANT: It's all good, I was just curious, because Cold Steel seems to be this "black sheep" knife company, so I was curious to see what customers thought.
I've got their Recon Tanto, and think it's just a fantastic knife. Great quality and solid, but rather boring to look at, not so flashy
Out of curiousity, if you were to go out tomorrow and buy a 4" tactical folder for legal carry, what would you buy?

I am just sad that they don't use Carbon V for their fix blades anymore :( I am not a fan of stainless fix blades on utility knives.
As for a 4" folder. Some of my personal favorites in the sub $100 range:
1. Benchmade Griptilian: Awesome value, awesome knife. You really cannot go wrong with any griptilian. I have the full sized Ritter Grip (s30v), mini Cablea grip (d2). But the standard grip in 154cm is one of the best values out there. The quality of knife compared to it's cost is amazing. Axis lock is by far my favorite locking mechanism.
2. Spyderco Endura: Again, awesome value. VG-10 (great stuff), strong lock, and the usual excellent spyderco quality. If you want a little added "tactical" you can get it in the waved model. I have the Delica 4 waved and it is great Delica is also a great EDC knife. Sub 3" blade but the feel of the knife is actually very good.
3. Kershaw Shallot composite ZDP 189. I have this bad boy and it's a laser. ZDP 189 is one of those steels that can take and insane edge and hold it. It's an assisted opener (not to be confused with automatic) so either you'll love it or leave it I like Kershaws AOs personally, and have the Leek composite, and the Tyrade (that baby is a monster).
4. Kershaw Junk Yard Dog II composite CPM-D2. If you like fast non assisted knife with great steel and a great price, this is a knife you should look at. I enjoy mine, it's a work horse.
Well those are some that I can personally vouch for I am not sure what makes a knife "tactical" (black on black?)
And of course, there are many *many* more great knives out there!

Is that a Mazda3Speed? Nice, I've got a 3 Sport HB. No tricks or special doohickeys, but it's fun and I was able to slide it past the congregation and the wife as a 'family' car. I've had a bunch of other hobbies over the years--model airplanes, fencing, going to renfaires (and doing the dressup thing), Role Playing Games (which I still do, but many fewer than in the past), sailing (though it was my dad's boat), guitar lessons, yoga, playing poker...Other than going to the gym 3 times a week, D&D 1/month (at most) and a little wargaming (I try for 1/month), I've let most of my other hobbies fall by the wayside, not because of cost (which were all pretty comparable over the long term, except maybe sailing, and yoga) but because of time (toddler + job makes the cyberrabbi a dull boy). I would like to get back into historical model kits again, and perhaps I will, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I'm not going to buy 4 knives, but thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out, and maybe one of them will secretly appear under the tree (OK, really in my desk drawer) this year...
Lately, I've been itching to replace the S&W folder I bought on a lark. Utter crap knife, and I wish I had never bought it. I junked it as the action started wearing and loosening, because I started getting scared for my fingers. As they say, the sourness of poor quality lasts far longer than the sweetness of a good price.
IMO, "tactical" means it's more of a working tool, not something "pretty" that you show off. So, for me, a "tactical" knife has a plain blade, plain handle, and a focus on the steel, action, and lock. Case in point - my Recon Tanto -

My other hobby is SCA heavy weapons fighting, which is working out to be way cheaper. My shield, armor and helmet round out to about $1400 together (custom brain box) and I spend maybe 10-20$ to replace leather straps or rivets a year maybe. Otherwise, all the expense there is gas money, a few bucks for events and then ~400$ a year for Pennsic. And about 100$ in muscle cream
I am pretty compulsive about collecting things, so while for a while it was leather for armor making projects, it is now little plastic men. On the plus side, I can paint at home, where as the armor just sits till it is clobberin' time.

40k is actually my cheapest hobby. I play Guard.
.....which is why its cheap, as I haven't bought anything for 40k in..........months? a year?
You see, the realization that 40k lacks tactics, and that my army is horribly overmatched, made me keep my Guard in the closet until the new 'Dex comes out, at which time I will decide if I want to resume the hobby.
Fantasy, though, I'm liking.

"I went into a hobby-shop to play m'self a game,
The 'ouse Guru 'e up an' sez "The Guard is weak and lame!"
The Chaos gits around the shelves they laughed and snickered in my face,
I outs into the street again an' grabbed my figure-case."
Oh it's "Angels this" an' "Space-wolves that", and "Guardsmen, go away!";
But it's "Thank you for the ordnance" when the Guard begins to play,
O it's "LOOK AT ALL THE ORDNANCE!" when the Guard begins to play.."

40K is pretty low for me.
$75ish a month on Warhammer
$150-$200 per month on supplements (gyms free, yay military)
$350-$700 new rifle or pistol every six months or so plus ammo
and that pretty much sums up my life.

I dont know if its a hobby but going out drinking and playing pool badly seems to cost alot of money... again dont think its a hobby but the other half seems to spend alot of my money to...
But i think 40k is cheaper then other stuff i do, like heavy gaming, constantly upgrading parts of my pc, then there is the cost of the games, the ps3 and the games for that, probably spend more money there.

WI've got a couple of airsoft guns but due to a back injury I don't go all that much now, so I've saved myself a bit of cash. When I was more active I maybe went airsofting twice a month (@£15 - 20 a time green fee + ammo + fuel etc) or one or two troop boxes...I suppose when I was more active they were about the same costs.
But as I've been playing 40k for 10 years, I've definatly spent more on it in total >_<
