Indeed. I'm a MilSim Paintballer, but I prefer Airsoft for the accuracy(both appearance and to hit) and availability for various periods of history that they don't make for paintball(unless you want to mod/purchase/commission custom markers).

I collect G1 Transformers (including the JP exclusive stuff) and build large-scale historical armor models... 40k costs less per item and time spent than both of those.

I assume then that you attend Bot-con and purchase the Bot-con exclusives, both of which automatically = more expensive than 40K.

Actually, I've never attended BC, so I'm hoping this year's BotCon will be somewhere in NE so I can go. I do have a number of JP exclusive G1 TFs from '89-'92 that cost more than my entire 40k collection tho.

40k is my primary hobby (or should I say GW, including all the specialist games)

Then Historicals (less expensive)

Then Bartertown. Where I trade all the above stuff for different stuff. That hobby only costs shipping...

Right now money's tight, I haven't spent money on any hobbies lately. Some hobbies I've gotten out of due to 2 kids & 1 on the way. My paintball habit used to cost me almost a $100 every other weekend. (I was on a sponsored team) My 1970 fairlane is still sitting in my garage. It hasn't moved under it's own power since it was vandalised in the parking lot @ my old job about 13yrs ago. It was about 80% restored. So I guess I'm saying 40k has been one of my cheaper hobbies.

40k is my main hobby. I play video games, collect anime(i buy all mine), I also collect statues of characters from video games and anime series.

Breaking the prices down 40k is one of my cheaper hobbies per month then the others(well not the statues)

on average i'd probably say i spend $75 a month on models plus supplies. There will be times when I just don't buy anything for 3 to 4 months and then times when I throw down 200 to 300 then back to a dry spell for 3 to 4 months.

when I was big into video games I'd probably buy 15+ games a year(console and pc) and then a monthly fee to City of Heroes. So somewhere closer to $90 a month. Now it is done to 4 or 5 games a year at most. I've had my 360 since launch and I have 7 games...

anime probably the most costly of my hobbies with the least amount of time of enjoyment.... 15-20 dollars for four 25 minute episodes....yea...

and for statues and other plastic goodies from games and animes.... I go to two conventions a year for it and last two I went to I throw down $400 at each, not including plane tickets, food, hotel, and entry fees, etc etc etc....

so yea 40k is fairly cheap for me.

I know people that spend more money on booze then I even spend on going out to conventions and what not...

really 40k isnt that expensive of a hobby after you already started it that is.

I like the King Tiger, though it's funny you labeled the pics "Loenig Tiger" instead of "Koenig Tiger".

Are these OOTB builds, or are you doing the whole accurizing thing?

I do get a lot of use out of stuff though, so the price is less a concern for me.

I'd say it's on par for the most part. People who are really into it will spend as much money as other people spend on more expensive hobbies. On the flip side, other hobbies are cheaper and less time intensive, but provide the same level of entertainment to the low cost individual as the high cost individual. Hunting is a prime example. I can go hunting for a couple hundred and claim just as much game as an individual who spends thousands.

Prometheum5: Sweet models!

Gearing up to play guitar professionally (career earnings of $125.00 and career alcohol expenditures of >$1000.00) was really expensive, and over the years has cost more than 40k. However, 40k expenditures seem to grow exponentially, and it's getting closer all the time.

for me, GW stuff is still relatively cheap, but my job kind of helps with my other hobbies in some respects:

working out (as in lifting weights and such): free, because the military has gyms that we are able to use for free.. so no membership fees there.

cycling: my 2 bikes combined are about $6k, soon to jump up in value to about 9k. (my mountain bike alone is 5k, and im about to buy a new road bike that is a huge improvement from the one i have)

computer/console video games: PS3, and my computer.. i try and balance it out, but its currently more expensive than my GW stuff... but itll be about even, specially once the wife gets her Wii.

there are more hobbies i have, but really the ones listed above are my "main" ones other than 40k, and GW stuff in general.. but the cycling alone pretty well makes my 40k habits seem meager

Thanks for the comments... it's funny that you caught that spelling mistake, as those photos are old, and superseded by the better second set for that model once it was totally finished, and yet I still never noticed that mistake. You should have seen me last night editing my BA assault marines, and I think I had Sergeant spelled three different ways on photos bc/ I was rushing and had to fix them.

I a little 'accurizing' if there's something glaringly incorrect on the kit that the community has critiqued, but I'm no rivet counter. I mostly just buy the new Dragon hi-tech kits, which come with things like etched brass frets and metal gunbarrels that would otherwise be an aftermarket thing to buy (and quite expensive at that). The Dragon kits manage to include a glorious IP kit, a ton of extra parts depending on the variants you can make from the box, and a dearth of extra 'advanced' bits for just about the same cost as most other companies' standard plastic kit. I've got a couple of serious projects lined up with some resin conversion kits for someday, but the next tank I build will be a Rhino with interior, and then the Vulcan Mecharius waiting for me over Xmas break The big-scale T-34 is almost out of the box, but I put different markings on it, bought etched brass front mudguards, and imported a JP-produced turned metal gun-barrel... it was one of the last produced as far as I can tell, and my hook-up was amazing.

If anyone has any questions, I'm more than happy to answer them here or via PM to prevent from completely hijacking this thread.

I'm not sure if it's a hobby, but keeping my '74 Fiat running is a fair bit more expensive than gaming.

@P5: The reason I asked about the accurizing vs OOTB is because the secondary market is so very expensive, for the reasons you mentioned. You can start with a $30 kit and easily spend 2 or 3 times that much on accurizing bitz.

And the reason I asked about the armor in the first place is because I started in 1/72 armor before moving to 40k, which naturally got me into Guard as a treadhead. I'm hugely impressed with the detail on the newer 1/72 and 1/44 kits. 20+ years makes an incredible difference.

Knives are more of an investment though.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Hi all.
In my limited experiance, wargameing is MUCH cheaper than 40k!

And is far more time consuming than PC gaming.

But 40k minis are just soooooo nice.
