Did some work on the second rhino during paint night... learned something about making sure to shake your washes before using, as a result I need to do a lot more cleanup on these models than I would have liked:

I can't wait to get these rhinos into a decent state so I can start on the infantry models!

@Vitruvian - Basically, I think the pigment for wash settled on the bottom of the bottle, so when I applied the wash it was too watery and not enough pigment. Instead of spreading appropriately, it was streaky and flat, making it look like I soak the model in dirty dish water.

For the Aero Paint and Play, we have an extra credit option at each milestone. For the first milestone, we get one extra point if we publish our "final" list. This list can have some modifications, but it sets up the general theme of our army. As such I am submitting:

"The Bleeding," A World Eater Warband (1998/2000 points)

HQ:

Kharn the Betrayer
Summoned Greater Daemon

Troops:

8 Khorne Berzerkers (Skull Champion w/ Power Fist, Icon, Rhino)
8 Khorne Berzerkers (Skull Champion w/ Power Fist, Icon, Rhino)
8 Khorne Berzerkers (Skull Champion w/ Power Fist, Icon, Rhino)
7 Khorne Berzerkers (Skull Champion w/ Power Fist, Icon)

8 Summoned Lesser Daemons (Bloodletters)
8 Summoned Lesser Daemons (Bloodletters)
8 Summoned Lesser Daemons (Bloodletters)

Heavy Support:

Land Raider (Dozer Blade) carries Kharn and the unit of 7 Berzerkers
Predator (Auto-Cannons, Lascannon Sponsons)
Predator (Auto-Cannons, Lascannon Sponsons)

I will be using a kit-bashed Chaos Lord to count as Kharn, since a) I already have a painted Kharn and for this paint and play I cannot use any previously painted models, and b) for fluff reasons I want someone other than Kharn leading the warband. I would have really liked to get Daemonic Possession on the Land Raider, but I ran out of points. However, if I was to change two of the power fists in the the list to power sword, or maybe just a close combat weapon and melta-bombs, that would give me enough points for Daemonic Possession. I have a general fear of walkers in close combat so I am tentative to do so... Any thoughts?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
More just notes for myself, but here is my tentative build path:

Milestone 1: 496/500 points

8 Khorne Berzerkers (Skull Champion w/ Power Fist, Icon, Rhino)
8 Khorne Berzerkers (Skull Champion w/ Power Fist, Icon, Rhino)

Milestone 2: 739/750 points

Kharn the Betrayer
6 Summoned Lesser Daemons

Milestone 3: 995/1000

+2 Summoned Lesser Daemons
Summoned Greater Daemon
Predator (Auto-Cannon, Lascannon Sponsons)

Milestone 4: 1243/1250

8 Khorne Berzerkers (Skull Champion w/ Power Fist, Icon, Rhino)

Milestone 5: 1490/1500

-1 Khorne Berzerker
-1 Rhino
Land Raider (Dozer Blade)
6 Summoned Lesser Daemons

Milestone 6: 1750/1750

+2 Summoned Lesser Daemons
8 Summoned Lesser Daemons
Predator (Auto-Cannon, Lascannon Sponsons)

Milestone 7: 1998/2000

8 Khorne Berzerkers (Skull Champion w/ Power Fist, Icon, Rhino) 1 Berzerker and Rhino will have already been painted from previous milestone

I think that is a reasonable build and paint cycle that keeps my army playable.

Like the Khorne theme you've got going here. List looks good but i think if i were you i'd swap 2 fists for either PWs as you suggested or if there's going to be a lot of walkers in the league, take the MBs. I just feel that 4 PFs seems like overkill, especially when you get I5 on the charge, don't waste that high initiative.

Just my 2 cents, Vitruvian

With 31 Khorne Berzerkers, but since the conversion packs are 10 each, it looks like I need to have 4 conversion packs. I currently have 3, where I have used 1 already. Since I have to buy another, what I think I will do is create 2 extra Skull Champions and the new ones will have Power Weapons and then have 2 more that will just have close combat weapons and melta bombs, so I have all of the options I am considering available, play test, and adjust based on local meta.

No progress with painting over the weekend. Was mostly busy playing a 2500 point game of Planetstrike. However, I did get a chance to finally build my FW Khorne Daemon Prince, which will count as my Summoned Greater Daemon, and a box of Bloodletters, which will count as my Summoned Lesser Daemons.

Khorne themed army is really starting to shape up

As part of the Aero TOMG, we need to play 1 game a month with one of the other competitors, at the point range for the given month. For this month, I needed to play "g3spoon" in a 500 point Combat Patrol. Even though I "tabled" his army, he kept positive and looked like he still ahd some fun. As you can see from the following pics, the table was terrain heavy, which favored my list. Anyway, on to the pics:

Bottom of Round 1

Bottom of Round 2

Bottom of Round 4

Goodbye Bikers...

"g3spoon" probably played a little too aggressive against my list, since that's exactly what I want people to do against this Khorne list. Again, "gspoon" was in good spirits and really fun to play. I hope to play against him again in the future.

Also, of special note about "g3spoons" list is that he actually made custom shoulder pads for his Marines. He sculpted one and made a cast, which he then used to make more... hence the white shoulder the pads you see in the pics. I hope someday he will join DakkaDakka and maybe even put up a tutorial on how he did it. I know there are other showing how, but sometimes with other tutorials you see some variety in how people do the same thing, and then take best of breed after reading both, or all.

Edit: To give credit, where credit is due, the pics here were taken by G3Spoon.

Looks like G3Spoon has joined DakkaDakka, yay. He also put up a battle report of the Combat Patrol on his blog:

http://www.jlgreenspoon.com/40kTMG/1.html

It all correct except he destroyed my rhino's twin-linked bolter, where he wrote twin-linked storm bolter. It's been several thousand years since those pesky Space Marines used twin-linked bolters on their rhinos, so I can overlook that

Did a little bit of work over the last couple days...

A draft version of my Berzerker:

And I felt my Chosen Rhino was a bit too plain compared to my Black Legion one, so I did a little bit of work on it:

I am hearing bad feedback on the pistols from multiple sources... sounds like another delay in the assembly line and I am going to have to get the saw and knife out and swap out some bolt pistols... oh well, better now than before I painted all of them.

The rhino looks good. That's an effective freehand scheme on the top.

I'm not sure about the black gloves on the Berzerker? Do you think gray would work?

So current TODO:

For Berzerkers

a) cut off all, as Shep says, "bread bolters" and replace with the newer chaos bolt pistols.

b) try a really dark gray on the Berzerker gloves.

c) either scrap or try repriming some of the berzekers that are currently in a bad prime state due to dusting. FYI, Simple Green does not strip off the "Army Painter" primer, all of the other paint was removed, but hte important part of the botched prime job stayed :(

d) paint 16 of them and finish 2 rhinos within the next 5 weeks.

Chosen:

a) Refile hoods to get rid of mold lines

b) file down some of the angel daggers, though I need to keep some to keep in my "fluff," as these are actually "stolen" robes symbolizing a botched infiltration job

c) paint the green panels on the front of the Rhino to have green scales.

Black Legion:

a) I have lined up and prepped another legion rhino and 10 man squad of CSM to paint.

Ok, since I was doing so many Bloodletters, I decided to simultaneously start building my Daemon contingent, a Khorne-themed list. As a result, I started building some Soul Grinders and for one of them I got a bit distracted and experimented with some conversion:

It's still work in progress, but really close to done. I think the only thing extra I want to do is add some more cabling around the head, ala guitar strings, to tie the head back into the body I am using.

Agreed, an expensive way of of doing things, but what an impression it makes! I think it's worth it overall, for a model with that impact.

AB very nice conversion and I have to add the free hand on the chosen rhino is awsome it realy ties it to the other freehand rhinos, but you've just stepped up your game and now you'll have to do some free hand on all your rhinos (it will look realy kick ass though).
