I finished the Chosen a while ago, decided to make them Alpha Legion, but forgot to post them... so here are a couple shots of them:

Wow, that is some seriously impressive work there. Maybe remove the winged dagger from the front of that Chosen's robes though, it looks super-loyalist and a bit out of place...

@AG09 - Yeah I was a little lazy, but what I also decided was that these Alpha Legion were sort of initially tasked for infliltration and were "disguised." Unfortunately, the warp had different plans and has twisted their forms too much for them to be too effective.

On a different note, I just joined another Tale of Many Gamers , Paint and Play, and have decided to extend my Chaos Space Marines Black Legion with some Khornate allies. As part of the paint and play that starts today, I need to post up the prepainted first 500 points.

The first round will be 2 squads of 8 Khorne Berzerkers with Rhinos. I have two months to finish the 500 points and will be tracking my progress here. I am also going to try my hand at some minor conversion and posing, so we'll see how that goes. The theme will be the Berzerkers in the middle of a fight with some Cadians.

Loving the paint jobs on those Rhinos. It's always interesting to see how people can stretch an Eightfold Star over something.

Started working on the Khorne Berzerkers tonight and here are a couple test poses incorporating some of the Cadians. These will be some of the more extreme cases on the 25mm bases, but I wanted to "go big" with a couple of the poses:

Khorne Berzerker Sweeping Advance

Standing Over the Fallen Enemy, if they are worthy of being called such.

The next ones will probably be a lot less involved, but I am liking the direction, though I am really pushing the limits fo the 25mm base on the Sweeping Advance.

First squad almost ready for paint. I just need to clean up some edge and a few mold lines I missed on first pass.

Think I also want to make it look like the claw on the Skull Champion to look like it was breaking out of the armor. As is, it doesn't look very "natural" Though I would say none of them look "natural."

12k of CSM? Awesome, simply awesome!

Unfortunately, only about 2500 points are painted. So much work

Heh. Happens to the best of us!

Oh! Oh!, awesome Khorne Berserkers. Can we get a closer screenshot of the Berserker that's in the middle of sawing through the guardsman? Its the one second from the left in the group pic

@Ronin - Sure, I will take another pic and upload once I get home tonight. However, the concept was better than my execution. I am not completely happy with how it turned out, mostly because the Berzerker is too close to the guardsman and it doesn't look quite right, but I am still learning and have to realize I am not going to hit perfection on this first attempt.

As requested, here is the one that is about to saw through guardsman:

I definitely have a lot of clean up to do on these models before painting, and the pose on this one is a bit forced, but its still progress

Base coated my World Eater Rhinos with The Army Painters Pure Red Primer, the lighting in the room is a bit yellow so it doesn't look as red as it should, but I think its a good base color:

And on a slightly different note, after much procrastinating, I finally finished flocking my game board:

I still need to finish a few more terrain pieces to feel like I have complete table with enough terrain that is completely finished, but it feels great to finally have finished the board itself.

I've always liked the idea of but never tried the Army Painter stuff. What did you think of the spray, and are you going to use/have you used any of their other stuff?

Nice work on the game board, I am extremely envious.

As an experiment I purchased 2 cans of the Pure Red, 2 cans of the Navy Blue, 1 can of the Dark Quickshade, and 1 can of the Strong Quickshade.

I have 3 boxes worth of AoBR Space Marines sitting around and I decided that I would try to speed paint those models. Just to be clear though, I have no intention of speed painting any of my Chaos Space Marines They are my primary army and the army I want to use to get better at painting. However, I have so many unpainted models from other armies, I figured I would try to speed painting on those. As such, I primed the entire 3 boxes worth of AoBR Space Marines with the Navy Blue, and in my opinion they came out great! So much so that I would recommend using their Navy Blue as a primer for Blue Armies, though the color is not quite Mordian and not quite Ultramarines, so one might have some difficulty color matching.

For the Pure Red, I am sort of happy with it, though through no fault of the paint I think I just made a major blunder priming my Berzerkers... I thought I was being frugal and tried to get as much paint out of the can as possible and ended up "dusting" the Berzerkers, meaning the coat ended up rough. Completely my fault and something I should have known better, since I did it before with my very first models I ever primed. I think I can recover from it though. Pure red is very close to Blood Red so I don't think one would have as much problems matching. It does also go on a little thicker and without care you could cover some detail easier than I would say one would with GW or Armory Black primers. That said it worked out fine for the Rhinos.

As for using it again, definitely the Navy Blue. Any Ultramarines I do will be based with their Navy Blue. I have painted one Tac Squad of Space Marines all the way up to tabletop and they look good with minimal work. I just applied the Dark Quickshade and I am waiting for it to dry, so I will have additional comments on that once its done. I did one test model earlier this week and it looks like a good tabletop worthy model, so so far I approve. Again, only for those that don't want to improve their painting skills.

As for the Pure Red, I need to wait and see. I did one test model and I am liking it. Again, I am not using the Quickshade on any of my CSM. I am going to reserve judgment until after I complete one of the Rhinos and the Berzerkers. The fact that I advanced and continued using after the test model is a sign that I am going to be happy with it, but I want to get the whole squad done before giving a full assessment.

I should be able to post examples of both the Smurfs and the Berzerkers by the end of the weekend.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Quick note on flocking the game board, in order to speed up the flocking process, I experimented with 3M Super77 Spray Adhesive. The process went way faster that it would have if I painted on white glue. However, it my testing I did find that the Spray Adhesive does NOT dry clear, almost clear but still a little milky. I only recommend its usage where the flocking (sand, flock, grass) will completely cover the area. It worked great for me with that caveat. I will use it again on any large flocking project.

So a little more progress on the World Eaters...

I noticed that the DakkaDakka image auto correction goes crazy when trying to correct red:

Next time I upload red, I know not to auto-correct

This is still Work in Progress, as I definitely need to weather more and paint the driver

As on might see, I am trying to go really bright with this new addition to my collection. My first army was Black and my second was brown, so this bright red (almost orange) is a nice change of scenery for me.

Oh, and I must give credit where credit is due.... This Rhino was actually built and customized by GitSmack.

Started on the driver, so the base is done. I will want to add an extra level of detail and weathering, but I will wait until I finish at least one squad of of the berzerkers.

Must stop being lazy and bust out the light tent and better camera, I am sure the inconsistency of lighting and picture quality isn't doing these models justice

@darkkt - Thanks, I think I am going to repaint the Alpha Legion Chosen within a week. I was lazy on cleaning some mold lines and they showed up on the robes, so it will be an easy clean up and I will only have to repaint the robes, so I think I am going to do it.

Consider removing the DA loyalist winged dagger (as suggested above) at the same time as the mold lines.

I love the blue of the armour - so dont change that!, but might suggested darkening the robes a fraction and then highligting to a brighter colour (just to make it stand out).

Oh yeah, love the dread in your profile too - Im a bit dread happy at the moment, having got one done and two more on the way.
