Oh my God.

Please tell me you're joking. Every wargamer has to have heard of Bolt Thrower! Since you haven't brushed up on your death metal history much, listen to me, grasshopper.

Bolt Thrower are a death metal/hardcore band formed in 1986. Some of their albums, song names, and cover art is from 40K/WHFB. They've got songs with names like Plague Bearer, World Eater, and Iron Warrior, and one of their albums is called Realm of Chaos (pictured above), which is the name of the two books released in 1st edition 40K which introduced Chaos to the setting.

So far, my favorite song to listen to while playing 40K is "Indestructible" from Disturbed. That song is made of raw mansauce.

I hate metal. Play something quiet and classical, so that you can enjoy the music when its not your turn, but can concentrate when it is.

It's hard to concentrate when some transgendered attention starved idiot with strep throat is screaming into a microphone about thor know what.

There are many kinds of Metal. Speed, Thrash, Death, Heavy, Alternative, and so on. I too hate Screametal and any other format where the Singer just yells or screams with no real vocal skill. Thrash and Alternative are good though, because you actually get singing

Lol actual singing is nice to. THAT SONG IS EPIC! I never tire of it

My group normally listens to 80s rock/pop, techno or stuff from games. Songs from Warriors Orochi 1 & 2 get played a lot too... Only one guy likes metal, I don't know who but somebody keeps fiddling with the playlists...

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...

I sometimes dick around with the playlists, so we get stuff like Never Gonna Give You Up or You Spin Me Round playing after something really dramatic.

When my group is gaming, we play music that's more atmospheric, usually video game soundtracks like this...

I listen to Armin van Buuren, Dj tiesto, James holden, Mark norman etc when painting and background music. I even use it when i read, work or have to do some intense thinking.
In the beginning we used to have the tv on but it was more of a distraction.

And people, be mindfull of the volume when your listening to music as you dont whant to go and damage your hearin or even worse, get tinnitus as there is nothing you can do to fix etier of them. (Unless its from muscle tension in your jaw neck)If you get it your screwed... The thought of having a permanent ringing in your ears untill the day you die realy scares the crap out of me!

I laways use small and discreet hearing protectors when out clubbing/partyingat live shows and sometimes when im at the hockey areana. Having people screaming in your ear is never good!
I use these http://www.bellman.se/web/mediacenter/ERhand.jpg they are made out o sillicone and form fittet to my ears. They dont distort the sound in anyway thanks to the electronic filter at the end, its like turning down the volume on your home sound system.
They cost a bit, around 320$ USD but its totaly woth it

What's with all this metal? Seems disruptive and hateful to me. >.>

As Dash mentioned, the running dialogue with my opponent typically blots out any music ("str4 against t5, need 5+ to wound..." ad nauseum).

Occasionally, though, when I play at home I get the chance to set up a playlist of...Enya! Soft, gentle music is best, mostly because I'm new to 5th and get way too reckless when, say, Billy Idol is screaming for a Shock to the System.

So they listen to the same song remixed a couple times...

I jest.

In all seriousness my club doesnt play anything. When those quiet moments strike all you can hear is the hum of the air conditioning.

If they did play music, I hope it would be something along the lines of DragonForce, ACDC, anything classic rock oriented, and the occasional comedy song (read: Weird Al) thrown in.

Lol I'd completely forgotten about them I'll have to go and dig them out, the first album was one of the funniest things I'd ever listened to! RIP Mark & Lard

On a serious note, we usually don't have music on while playing, and to be honest I'd find metal or anything to vicous really distracting. Soundtracks would be perfect though as they're supposed to be in the background rather than taking up people's attention. Stands to reason really
