During painting I'll throw the iPod on shuffle. Any music is fine. Stuff with interesting sounds/long instrumental-type sections is good..Above and Beyond for trance, stuff like Isis for rock.
During gametime if I'm playing with my buddies we enjoy some metal to get pumped..Iron Maiden has lots of epic sounding tracks that supplement our games. In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Children of Bodom, etc are good too.
The GW near to me plays lots of war music- from BraveHeart, Last of the Mohicans, and so on.

Whenever your opponent loses an important hguy, you should play "another one bites the dust" by queen. Other than that, I'd recommend listening to Amon Amarth, Lamb of God, anything heavy, really. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yeah, and bolt thrower (as others have said before me). Made for 40k.

My question to my fellow members of dakka is. Do you yourself do this???
Roger that! In our game club of some 5/6 players i often find that I'm watching a game not playing one.
As a result i always like to have some kinda film on in the back ground for something to break up the atmosphere. It can be quite dull just watching games i think. I find that films with lots of screaming, explosions & bloodshed are best.
I have also had drum & bass on a few times.

I brought my Sirius XM receiver and donated it to my FLGS. We usually have the classic rock or Alt Rock station going, and if theres nothing on, we turn on the TV and watch a sports game or a movie. Thankfully none of us seem to be heavy metal guys, which is fine by me, never been much of a fan.
When painting I like to just sit in the backyard and put the zune on shuffle and turn on the noise cancellation on my 'phones. A car could run through my back yard and I wouldn't hear it.

I've got a playlist, but it's down low, just for background noise. I need every remianing brain cell I have to bang together to think tactically lol trying to listen to music would over-load the system and bad things would happen.

Soundtracks. I have a large soundtrack collection, most recent purchases being the new Transformers and Star Trek soundtracks, with BSG Season 4 arriving in a few weeks, and we play them endlessly.
In my new place I finally have a sound system that can do MP3 as well, so I can either plug my MP3 player directly in, or burn a million MP3's to a DVD and play it off that.

During a game, It's got to be metal, especially if it's death metal.
That rule applies to me everywhere though, so the fact that I'm playing Warhammer make no difference.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

What... you don't play classical over a game about toy soldiers killing each other. I mean, come on. Does Saving Private Ryan have Mozart as its ambient music? As my first post indicated, my group listens to soundtracks while playing. The only heavy stuff we'd play would be Bolt Thrower.

We always play music when we play. Usually it's metal (Metallica, Disturbed, etc...), but if it's a particularily epic battle or campaign, we have some of those WWII Movie-style tunes, and some fittingly GRIMDARK Symphony
So far, my favorite song to listen to while playing 40K is "Indestructible" from Disturbed. That song is made of raw mansauce.

There are many kinds of Metal. Speed, Thrash, Death, Heavy, Alternative, and so on. I too hate Screametal and any other format where the Singer just yells or screams with no real vocal skill. Thrash and Alternative are good though, because you actually get singing
