A good friend of mine and myself game alot and as a result we are usually waiting for long turns to conclude due to both of us playing horde armies. We have taken up the idea of starting to play some music during games. Im thinking Metallica, ManOWar, ect.
My question to my fellow members of dakka is. Do you yourself do this???
"That for all the Emperor's love of his space marines, his ultimate creation - he was in fact nearly killed by one of them, only to be saved by a mere mortal with a 5+ save and a flashlight."
I do its awesome
The GW store in my town plays weird cartoonish music and it gets annoying during those tense moments of 40k I personally listen to Folk metal bands becasues for me it fits the aesthetic of Wargaming
Some good bands to listen to are Ensiferum, Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Venom. Any good rock and roll
Zeppelin is great too ^-^
Yes good metal bands are great to listen to even when painting. I like metallica, powerman 5000, chevelle, slipknot, audioslave, linkin park *1 hour passes* and stevie ray vaughn.... ok so the last one isnt really metal but man that guy could play a guitar.
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way! Thousand Sons 10000 Grey knights 3000 Sisters of battle 3000 I have 29 sucessful trades where others recommend me.

I agree SRV was really good, that mans soul was in a guitar.
That being said, I cant stand listening to music while playing. It drives me nuts. Im a calm and cool guy, same when I play, but music while Im thinking of my next move, makes my brain go nutz-O
when painting etc i generally watch a show or movie, like how i met your mother or something, just to fill in the gaps etc, but while battling, i like a bit of metal try hatebreed, and Flaw, both very good
and if you want some awesome drum solos and just epic music otherwise, go for Tool, is best
Just a man, standing in front of a paint pot, trying to remeber if I rinsed boltgun metal in it.
I love me some metal, but it's way too distracting during a game. My FLGS has an iPod on shuffle with tons of surf, rockabilly and Tarantino movie soundtracks on it; usually played at a reasonable to low volume. Generally pretty relaxing or easy to tune out if it's not your thing. I've tried playing music during games before and it's been consistently disastrous. At that point you're not focusing on the game, but the music instead. Same with having the TV on. Just makes it really hard to concentrate.
Having music or TV on while painting works wonders though!
The music at the local GW bunker frequently makes us burst out laughing during breaks in conversation. It's always trying really, really hard to be EPIC. Ends up being lame.
I usually end up listening to the Ramones, Leftover Crack, or Stiff Little Fingers while painting. Something fast to keep me entertained. Stuff like Metallica puts me to sleep.

My FLGS does not play music. It's eerily quiet on a weekday. Probably the quietest place you can get during the working week.
When my group is gaming, we play music that's more atmospheric, usually video game soundtracks like this...
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
Your club plays Michael Jackson? An odd choice, but appropriate for the present circumstances.

I like to play hell march when I play 40k. I got the idea form another thread on Dakka. but I don't have a link to it, sorry.

HERESY! Metallic is not for sleep

My FLGS plays some interesting stuff, mostly smooth stuff on a quite volume. It provides atmosphere for those shopping and watching, but it quite enough to ignore when trying to really think.
Secondly am I the only one who doesn't play metal when I paint. I'm at the age where pop culture should have me in its death grip but instead what do I listen to, Brubeck, davis, the occasional Coltrane piece. Sometimes I go further back to Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins along with Louey armstrong and Benny Goodman. It is just me?

No you aren't... I've been a jazz bassist for almost a decade and I listen to a lot of benny and Mingus when I paint. Usually though I'm listening to NPR when I paint (unless it's one of my favourite shows of course, then I stop paying so much attention and go back to priming or basing where I can do both at the same time).
Tired of reading new rulebooks... Just wanting to play.

My friends and i play music when we game at each others houses, they're all metal but I'm more into Pendulum (before they were main stream) and The Prodigy. I think it sets a good background and the right music can really enhance the atmosphere.
