Or it could be there for when he manually loads specific types of shells (hence the heaps of non-magazined shells he's carrying).

Really what the shotgun needs is a pump handle, a box mag, a banana clip on top, a bolt on the side, and a hammer at the back. That'd make no sense.

If you pay close attention you can see that Straken does have shoelaces and they are indeed tied up.

Of course that doesn't prove anything more than the designers at GW have seen what a shoe with tied up laces looks like.
