I already beat Xcom1 since the last time I posted in this thread Xcom2 is being stubborn, tho. I've had to restart 4 times already cause the aliens just stay out of sight and I get negative points 2 months in a row.

You know what is a good (old) game, Syndicate. Although it is not turn-based. I have had an itching to play those Crusader: No Remorse games from Origin. Wing Commander world. I think I beat the first level or so.
FLAMETHROWAH
I don't think it has ninjas, unfortunately.
Not turn based, however. I am actually changing my vote to Master of Orion and Master of Magic since they seem underrepresented here.
And one for Lorek.

Nigh impossible to get a hold of these days but... anyone remember the Panzer General series?
Pure turn based fun that can't be beaten. Campaign branching, experience, upgrades, elite units and unit management and campaign persistent units. Awesome.
And Allied and Pacific General if you have a moral problem playing the bad guys. PG2 updated the look and added cool commander abilites but lost some of the gameplay and epic feel IMHO.
And to top it off... People's General. You really missed out if you never experienced this. Modern USA Vs China. Just awesome. Air, artillery, tanks... the game ZOMGROFFLE was invented for.

What about lord of the rings battle for middle earth 2? there's a section of it called war of the ring thats turn based, with dow -like games in between.
I think its a good cross between the two, and it's a bit like whfb, with the mythical stuff, and oldy worldy settings

Oh god, SSI made the best games back in the day. I think we're all showing our ages here..
Remember the old D&D, turn-based games?
Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

"And what is wrong with their life? What on earth is less reprehensible than the life of the Levovs?"
- American Pastoral, Philip Roth
Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

But also those sound bytes: "UZI. UZI. UZI. MINIGUN. PERSUADERTRON. SATELLITE RAIN." But also because I can still remember that policeman drone on "Move along. Keep moving."
It was a fun game and I can't wait for the upcoming third instalment, for better or for worse.

Its fun like the other Panzer Generals, the maps and everything are a little more detailed. Some of the units still act a bit odd, like a 10 strength Tiger unit being destroyed by a 5 strength T34 unit.
