Having argued in favour of yes the nob being allowed to take a tankhammer I would point out I'd never actually do it; if you're using a boarding plank you can just use one of the boyz with a tank hammer (they can't be hit back anyway so the extra wounds/toughness of a nob don't matter) and if you're out on the field I'd much rather have two S10 tank hammers plus a nob with S9 PK hits on the charge!

...and that's assuming you even want to take them given the Glory Hog malarkey. I'd probably go with deffkoptas for tank hunting.

In any army, when you upgrade a character like this, there is always a specific list of wargear that you have or can buy that associates with the new character. Never could you give a character wargear, then upgrade them... and expect to keep that wargear.

My roommate pointed out to me a bunch of issues with this comment... more specifically a bunch of situations where I was wrong. I probably should have said something more along the lines of, "This is ridiculous because this seems not to be the way the RAI... or more important the way the rules should be played."

But I would have to take it back... my experience with 40k is mostly IG... and our army is very regimental, and with a new codex, nicely organized. Lol. Also we use mostly officers... so there are very few situations where a specific model is upgraded from a lower rank to a higher one.
