last games day at chicago they out soarched most of the staff. Also a lot of the scenery and models needed are painted at their retail stores and shipped. When I worked for GW I remember having to do thousands for some big IG battle they had one year....was not fun let me tell you.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Most of the stores no longer have the staff to contribute to Games Day projects due to staff cuts in 2009. Customers, me and my son and several friends among the lot of them, built and painted the models used in the "big game" at 2009 events and as was pointed out, clubs provided most of the display tables, at least the ones that showed up. That was part of the problem, many of those "outsourced" jobs were not delivered, leaving empty tables at the most disappointing Games Day events ever.

I can understand your grevance their and believe me I dont really disagree with you. The overall of GW's event have sadly gone downhill a lot. and for a gamer of going on 15 years over half of which was playing their games im sadend a lot by this, but to an extent such is the overall times I venture with the economy so I can tfully knock on them for trying to maximize their capital gain in times of economic crisis. That said though Europe is having the same problems , but their GWs are still going strong because as is stressed in GW events make you tons of money on the overall not at the event itself.

And yet, if they held it in Chicago, I bet there would be people complaining it wasn't in Baltimore because HQ is there or because then Chicago would have both GD and Adepticon and it's not fair or something.

I'll say this again. If you're looking to maximize attendance at a one-day event, you're looking for the number of potential attendees within a few hours driving distance. A mid-Atlantic location tops Chicago in this regard. It doesn't mean it's the only factor, but it's clearly a factor that favors the Baltimore location. And yes, I'd say that even if I lived in the Aleutian Islands.

actually all models are made in memphis at their factory there ergo the shipping is pretty much the same whichever way you cut the dice. Also the chicago bunker is the highest in sales for the country for many years running so it would have made even MORE sense to put it there in the middle of the country.
Not really.
More people able to attend the event by having it on the East Coast.
More personel to draw from with the HQ right there, and less time/money to utilize them. No costly airfares and hotels needed.
Promotions can oversee the event planning, and get the resources they need together a lot easier for a Baltimore event, when they are located in Baltimore.

True normally but if you actualy look at the GW demographics their highest concentration of A: 40k gamers is Seattle, and B: Warhammer is Dallas.. dont undestand it but that was in their yearly stock holders report. Plus as stated their highest sales are in chicago money wise so so really though baltimore is great for me on an overall sales point it doesnt make as much sense.

You are again correct, but even baltimore last year they outsoarced so no matter which way you look they actually spend less being as employees they have to pay to put up and fly.. Outsoarced they just give basic pay and the rest is up to them.

Ok that I totally agree with you on hands down.
Look no matter which way we all argue and a lot of theseat points the fact in the end is their is only one games day this year, and NO GT's. This honestly really limits the overall exposer we all get to our GW fix and to me that just sucks though nothing I can actually do about it.

i'll never understand the argument that it's better to have games day in the middle of the country because "less driving distance for everyone".. That would be true if the ENTIRE united states had the exact same population density
However, in the real world it doesnt.. Most of the population is concentrated on the west or east coast, thus having it there is a good idea! Everything in california is a PITA or overly expensive and since the HQ is in baltimore it's fairly obvious why its there
Also, driving distance is fairly irrelevant.. its more about do you live near a big airport that can offer 100$ flights (cheaper than gas)

I think the Jerry Springer show has given people a skewed idea of how things are around Chicago and the mid-west.
Seriously, Brother Kriasu, you have summed up the situation quite nicely. Well done.
