Is the new Space Wolves Codex the worst technically written Codex (most ambiguities & inconsistencies) GW has ever produced?
Yes it is!
Not really, its about par for the course.
No, there's been worse (tell us which one).
What's a codex? / No opinion.

I am an English professor. I teach writing, revising and editing. I play 40k--up to four armies now. I would be happy to volunteer as an editor for Games Workshop. Does anyone know who to contact? I think with the way Games workshop has staggered the release of codexes and rulebooks, there will always be debates and confusion. That being said, there are many basic edits that any English teacher could catch. Find one that has some experience in 40k, and many of the rule paradoxes could be caught before publication as well.

As far as Space Wolves, I haven't read the codex. Every codex I have read, however, could really stand a solid revision. What do they do...publish the first draft?

IMO the Tau Empire codex contained a very high proportion of unclear rules for its length, which is relatively short.

The Tyrand Codex is badly written in the sense that some units require you to look up nine or 10 pages of rules in the dex and the rulebook just to get their stats, cost and rules sorted out.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Truly is par for the course. Gw codex writing has kinda gone downhill. maybe they should move the story forward a bit to breathe some life into the otherwise stagnant reworded fluff they always put in. lol as if!

Haven't seen the codex.

Surely it can't be that bad?

All of the wolf references kinda turned it (the SW codex) into a joke. Sure, it has some overpowered units, but the overall level was fine. It's not the worst.

Then along came the Blood Angels with all of their blood referenced gear - and was also more of a joke than the SW codex. So much so that many SW players jumped ship for it.

The BA codex is much worse in terms of derivative writing, ludicrous wargear names and fluff.

I ponder upon this question and wonder "Why even ask that?". It is not that it may be badly written but the question itself is odd. It still kicks ass, and is still a T4 3+ codex, [insert rant about uneven and unbalanced rules compared to Xeno codexes here]

They all seem to be half easy to read, half really difficult, with some organisational themes running through them, but nowhere to put the army-unique rules and special stuff. It's weird, but it might be there to make you read the fluff so that you don't build uber-hard tournament lists.

Like that's genna' happen.

Haven't read the 'Dex from a tactical viewpoint myself, although what I will say is that the Rune Priests are over-powered. They simply don't fit in with the Space Wolf character. They're supposed to be the 'warrior' archetype to stand against the Thousand Sons' 'wizard' archetype. Their powers should be more about boosting and buffing the warriors, not having some of the most destructive psychic powers in the game, THAT should be the Thousand Sons' domain.

Nob Bikers with a painboy in squads of six or more are ridiculous, and yet, against JAWW, they are easily disposed of. Easily. F*ck SW. But no, I don't think the codex is the most TECHNICALLY bad, I think it has plenty of errors you can find elsewhere.
I wish someone would edit my posts.
I write novels, graphic novels, and comics, I used to pay an editor good money to make sure my crap was fluent, now I spend the time doing 3 goram rewrites to make sure characters and places are never where there not suposed to be, words don't get over used and a whole bunch of other crap. Why can't GW, who makes a lot more money than me, just do that. Heck, I've almost finished a codex myself, not that it'll ever get legitamately used, and I've made sure to clarify each rule through playtesting and coming up with possible scenarios where the rule would be questioned. Some rules get cut even though they sounded good because there are just too many scenarios where they have to get referenced and questioned if they apply. I can find a way to make a rule for the unit or weapon similar and less convulxed, so..you know...what the hell? Why can't GW do it when they make a hell of a lot more moeny than me and their rules will actually get used in real games and have real miniatures behind them?
(All the editing I have to do on my real work is why I don't edit my posts, and laziness. MOstly laziness.)

“Well, what do you carry the gun for if you’re just going to waste bullets?” Timer reloads his Boomer as Forling fires his Shrapper.
“I may ‘ne be a good shot Timer, but I don’t miss much from this close up with my hammer,” Forling continues to fire.
“All the enemies are good and far away so what the hell does that…” Timer looks up to see Forling giving him an angry stare. “Oh, yea, ok, um, good shooting.”

Yeah, its pretty poorly written. Other codexs have issues like the deff rolla for orks or the dodge invul save for wyches (can it be used for psychic close combat attacks?)

But Space Wolves takes the cake. So many odd rules, and difficulties that I just tend to avoid playing against space wolf players. (which is a shame since I have thousands sons)

As I don't own the codex I can't have a view, but from a friend's I borrowed it seemed a bit off.

Also, could you differentiate between the British people and GW, the business? And bear in mind that it started as a hobby and that many still collect and paint, its not just about wargaming.

Just some points

I don't play as much as I could. I blame society! And ninjas

Wehrkind: "Nah, see he yells the order, and when everyone looks at him and say "What?" he grabs the vox, hits a guy with it and screams "CAN YOU HEAR MY NOW?!" into the mouth piece. Works like a charm "

Funny thing to do on L4D [if you own the server] Bind the tank music to a key, then at quiet moments press it and start firing like mad at something behind your team whilst screaming 'tank' on voice comms.

Sorry but i have to ask this. When did necrons bro-fist with the blood angles. and why are people now making reference to ultramarines doing it. Please fill me in.

Back on topic. THough i have not read space wolves i have seen the dex in action. They seem to have the best of all worlds, for cheaper than anyone else. Best psychers anywhere, and best powers, and somehow they get this despite the fact that they hate the Witch. This and many other little things make the dex just plain unappealing.
