But wouldn't they just expect to sit around complaining about the heat and still expect to get paid?

Emphasis on the word "deadbeat" ahtman. fateweaver was referencing an earlier post in which the term "deadbeat" was used. He didn't say that we should just take everyone whos on welfare.

Ahtman don't be stupid. Everyone on welfare is lazy. And all rich people are hard working.
I think the aid being sent is pretty good, myself. Committing men and technology straight away is really good, and the cash afterwards doesn't hurt either.

Working 20-30 hours per week is not being lazy but the welfare system in the US is STILL a joke.
I'm strictly talking the ones that aren't making an effort to find work. I have more respect for those working part time and still accepting government hand out than I do those not working at all and getting government hand outs.
If you are working you don't go to Haiti. If you aren't working and getting welfare than you go to haiti and earn the things you have in life.

But then they'd just be deadbeats in Haiti. Once they're there, there'd be no guarantee that they would do any work. Unless of course, laziness was made punishable by death. That might get -some- of them off their arses.

Chain-gangs.
Tell them they can't eat until they work. I mean you have to work to get a lunch break. You don't take a break from being lazy to eat and drink.

US Gov. has been evac'ing some of our citizens out, medical first, of course, starting last night.
Good thing, too, since the airport space is so tight, and air traffic control very limited.
And even in good times, it's a daylight-only airport, and a civilian air ambulance crew and medical staff will not leave the airport to go pick up a patient- they have to be brought to the airport to meet the air ambulance for safety and security reasons.

Considering the quake wasn't in france you may want to rephrase that.

Considering they aren't french he's not. Thats like saying the french are getting what they deserve for putting new orleans in a flood plain. It shows that you both know your history and are kind of a moron at the same time.

I've spent time in Haiti teaching goat care and other animal skills in the mountains. I stayed at the Montana a few nights and it makes me sad to know its gone and that some of the wonderful people I worked with could be dead. All of the people I knew were happy and very friendly. Its a real change to see the streets filled with hurt, frightened people.

He never said they were French. And neither did I. He said the French built a city there. Which is true. Granted, the city that they founded was signifigantly smaller and has all but disappeared since, but they still picked the spot, they still laid the first foundations, so as far as I see it that still makes Karon correct (To an extent).

He said "them French", as in that's what Haitians get for being French. Of which they aren't. The French didn't suffer anything. All in all, this is a silly argument, founded on semantics and general silliness.

This isn't the time for petty political potshots. Like other disasters helping comes first, then you worry about the other stuff later. If you see a person drowning you don't stop to tell people how much you disagree with someones politics, you pull them out of the water and than tell them.
Very true.
