See this link, page 73 i think has a good article on chipped armour. And you don't have to spray a wash on such apply in places where dirt gathers, spongeing and stippling are good to, but test your desired technic on something else fist.
A great article, saw some neat stuff in there I'll bring home, but that article has two massive and fatal flaws: One, it assumes I have gobs of money coming out've my ass and that I can afford 1000 shades of each colour, plus Vallejo paints, which are NOT available to me. I've checked A TONNE of my local hobby stores within about 50kilometers, and none of them carry Vallejo, and most of them resolutely refuse to. Even Michaels. Secondly, that article would only work from Start to Finish for doing battle damage. My Marine is already entirely basecoated to where I want it, what I need is an article that explains how to ADD battle damage to an exsisting, previously painted minuture. Preferably if it also took into account I plan on painting the damage into areas I will chip out've the paint with my dental pick. But thank you for giving me a link to that COMPLETE article. I've seen pieces of it before, and they wanted $10 for a PDF copy. Sorry, that's $10 I could spend on Mini's Does anyone know of an article that can atleast give me a guideline of how to do battle damage at the stage I'm currently at? Thanks for your help guys
And I almost forgot, Sonofruss, I don't have decal sheets, otherwise these posts would've never happened =\

Well, this sucks huge ammounts of ass, but while I was working on the knee of my Marine, I decided I'd use painters tape to carefuly section off the knee so I didn't have to paint quite so carefuly. This is the exact same roll of tape I'd used to tape off the Aquilla when I painted it, so I foresaw NO complications. The first complication I ran into was getting the tape into all the little cracks and details that needed it. I found this to be too much of a pain in my ass to be bothered with, so I started taking off the tape... That's where this project took a sudden and drastic nose-dive. More than half of the left thigh was stripped of paint when I removed the tape, and a large section of the shin as well. For whatever reason, the primer underneither had adheared VERY poorly and had allowed the paint to be peeled off, primer and all. Talk about demoralizing... I wanted battle damage, and that's what it looked like, but on a scale MUCH too large :( So for the next few days no updates or anything reguarding the legs, which really pisses me off, I'd poured a tonne of work into them... Thank God Acetone doesn't seem to hurt FW Resin....

I've had similar problems with FW resin before. And yes I did everything possible to clean it. I know there are areas on my titan that if you chipped would go down to the resin.

Even a gentle sanding with 800 grit automotive paper. It was probably something REALLY random, like I scratched my nose and transfered skin oil from me to it and that killed the adhesion... Damn it. FML.

On a side note, does anyone know if Acetone has adverse effects on FW Resin? I know it'll eat plastic for lunch, especialy GWs, but FW plastic is catalyzed resin.... Would it be safe from Acetone?

Suggestions for the bolter shells: drybrush one end of each with black, like soot.
To test out battle damage, prime and paint a few layers of a section of sprue, then try various battle damage techniques.
Me, I usually get an old knife and just cut at it a bit, add grey, wash with black, touch up with maybe a bit lighter grey and/or metal and a scrap of the original color. Maybe drybrush some black/brown stuff around the edges...
My random Cadian IG trooper had a gouge missing out of an elbow, so I painted it and then added a glob of red gore in and around the 'wound', like it was soaking into the uniform. I can't get decent pictures of it because my camera's macro setting is apparently pretty crappy.

Candroth wrote:Suggestions for the bolter shells: drybrush one end of each with black, like soot. Don't forget how big this model is. You need to show the transition, as these shells are signifigantly larger. Painting something like "Vermin Brown" on the burn area first - then blending black in - would give a far more lifelike result.

Ok, so last time I said much, epic fail had recently occured. To be honest a lot of crappy stuff happened in and around the time this happened, and it really killed any ambition I had. It's still kicking my butt, but I figured I owe you guys an "I'm alive and haven't given up" so here I am. To say I haven't done anything is a lie, I've managed to pick about 85% of the paint off the legs, and it was ALARMINGLY easy. I'm now scared fething gakkless that the rest of the model might start to peel like the legs. God help me if it does.... Any road:
Both are also in the Gallery if you want to see the original full size pictures, and I promise I'll get back to it soon! Oh! And Candroth an Metallifan, thanks for the suggestions, specialy the bolter shells - I hadn't even thought of them in a long time.

I'm wondering if one bath didn't quite do it, considering size. Maybe toss it in a second one of all Simple Green, then lay into it with hot water, dish soap, and a toothbrush?

Even better than a toothbrush is the GW stippling brush. firmer bristles, and is smaller and can be worked into small spaces.

While that's true, again consider the scale of the model. Would you really want to be running that over so many large, flat areas?
The toothbrush might stand up better to areas like shoulderpads, thighs, shins, etc...

I almost haven't even touched it with any chemical solvents yet - That's just scratching with my thumb nail and some brushing - I've already tested out acetone on some inconspicious spots and it doesn't cause any damage and strips the paint clean away. However, when I go to prime this bastard again I'm going to do some seriously heavy reading about prepping resin for primer so it sticks like Gakk to fine fur

From what I understand, what -brand- you use can make a difference. I've heard that GW primer works on Resin and I've heard it doesn't. The same with Army Painter. I guess YMMV regardless of what you use, and it's hit and miss as far as priming goes :(
