Like some others before you, you make some valid points.
One thing to keep in mind, however.

radical bob wrote:I feel bad that I can't spend more cash on GW products in a way, since I really do appreciate having tables, terrain & great opponents [perhaps, even, friends?] all pro bono & within walking distance of my house. That, and helping a local business be successful. I know they don't keep the lights on & the shelves stocked just on profit from GW, but I imagine it still helps...

The profit margins on GW models is lower than typical retail. Where most of the time the retailer is paying 1/2 retail for his stock, he's actually paying 60% of retail if he buys straight from GW for GW stuff (more from distributors). So, by buying other models in lieu of GW stuff, you're actually increasing the profit margins of that FLGS.

Or, one could simply:
A. Buy less -or-
B. Stop buying

It will take quite a while for people to just stop buying. I myself have gotten too far invested in an army to let it go (addiction) so I'll have to finish that up. If I can avoid the shakes long enough I will switch to Anima tactivs since it looked really interesting and has spectacular looking models. I have a feeling I will have to get enough models for an opponent to borrow since nobody at my LGS plays it.

The greater good needs some moo.

Good idea but hard to achive

Newbies won't care because most of them are getting the models bought by their mothers anyway.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
