Generally they are the same thing, but strength is literally how strong you are, so say you can leg press 250kg but only once, that would be strength.
power is generally like leg pressing 175kg, but 20 times.
I think.

I do literally 30 push-ups per day. In total. I used to run for about 10-20 mins a day in gym but due to an error (or just my common sense) I didn't take any PE classes this year. Oops.

I think.
Strength is the ability of the human body exert force, and is practically measured through the ability to do work.
Power is the rate at which one can do work, or exert their strength.
A strong person can lift a large amount of weight, but cannot necessarily do so quickly. A powerful person can lift a large amount of weight, in a short amount of time; though not necessarily as much weight as the strong person.
A good way to understand the distinction is by comparing distance runners and sprinters. Distance runners are strong, but sprinters are powerful.

For a few months I was doing 100 pushups a night backed with 200 situps and 20 leg rises and falls before I got sick and the routine broke down, . I started going to the gym regularly shortly after the home routine stopped so it didn't end up mattering much. My sleep schedule at the time was pretty odd and deciding to do 25 minutes of workout before going to bed when it was already 3AM started to grind on me.

Hey, I can hardly manage 10 pushups.
Of course, I'm talking about doing wallstands (handstands) or "strict" 1-arms (off arm behind flat back).
Regular pushups should start at 50, regardless of your age.

I can do 50, i think when i was really at my fitest about 23-24 i could do about 70
But START at 50 regardless of age? Surely not? What are you talking about girly style ones with your knees on the deck?
If you can do 50 proper push ups at a nice controlled speed with your chest all the way to the floor you are very good at push ups. I know the internet is full of cock measuring, and anything to do with talent, intellect or fitness decends into an "i am awesome" thread, but come on man.
How many can your dad do?
Mine could manage maybe 20, and he isnt in bad shape for 56.

Yeah, 50 push-ups is a very solid number.
In my life I've met maybe 5-6 people that can reliably do 10 1 arm push-ups, and they were all professional or quasi-professional (read: D1 collegiate) athletes.
I mean, when I was still playing (D3) college ball I was around 220-230 with a 1-rep maximum bench nearing 500 lbs, and I would have struggled to do 40-50 push-ups. Granted, football is all about power, but there is at least a certain amount of strength that goes with that.

@matty: I'm over 40, and I can still knock out 50+ standard military pushups within the 2 minutes allowed by the APRT. Definitely so. There are way too many soft fatties out there, and I won't be one of them. I do my timed pushups feet together, hands shoulder width apart, back straight, starting locked at in forward leaning rest position. I don't go all the way down to the floor, because I was trained not to do so - a lot of guys "bounce" off the deck, and that's cheating. As for my dad, I don't know. When I'm his age, I fully expect to continue being able to do 50 pushups at a crack. ____ @dogma: at 220+, those 1-arm pushups are a lot harder than they are at 180. Benching your weight is a *lot* easier than dong a 1-arm because you don't have the same secondary muscle requirements to balance yourself. Most huge guys cannot do a 1-arm because their shoulder and core muscles aren't developed to work in sync for the amount of weight they need to balance. Once you have the core and secondary muscle, 1-arms are great for showing off.

Oh yeah, I know that. I'm fully capable of doing a good number of 1 arm push-ups now; after having switched from football to rugby and soccer (I'm also only about 180 now). A this point my routine is dominated by cardio and ab work, with a little strength maintenance thrown in to keep my upper body in shape.
I'm not trying to say that 1-arm push-ups are impossible, just that they're a bit more difficult than your initial post made them seem.

@dogma: Only learning to do the first 1-arm pushup is really, really hard. Once you build the muscle and balancing, it's not so hard at all.

I've started exercising a bit again. I've been on a very strict diet, and I've lost about 110lbs so far, which sounds great until you realize I'm still 6' 320lbs. Still, I'm doing elliptical at the gym and powerwalking, and I've started adding short (30 second) bursts of running to my routine. I want to ease into running, I haven't moved like that in about 7 years.
I was never super fit, but I swam in high school and a year in college, and it's hard to swim a few miles a day and not have a pretty good cardio base. My current goal is to slowly increase the amount of running, and add in strength training to build muscle. I know the weight loss is going to slow as I get past 300lbs (I'm losing about 5lbs a week or so at this point), and cutting my calories is simply not an option (I'm at 800-1000 a day already). I never liked running before, but I know it's a great way to burn calories.

If you can get into a decent workout routine, you'll be able to maintain the 5 lbs per week rate for quite some time. As I said before, I'm about 180, and if I really pushed it I could lose 3-4 lbs in a week. Another example, when I was cutting down from football weight (220-230) I was losing 4-5 lbs a week.
Building some muscle would also be a good idea, as it will increase your rest metabolism and maximize your bodies ability to burn fat.

@Polonius: nice job so far, keep it up. BTW, I agree with dogma: add in the strength work, and you should continue to lose weight at a fair clip - that muscle is hungry stuff. At 300 lbs, I'd suggest to consider swimming before running - it's non impact, which should help save your knees, and uses more of your body. And yeah, at 800-1000 calories, you're already dieting. If you can get the muscle up to support a higher calorie burn rate, you might be able to eat something closer to normal potions, say 1500 calories while still losing that a pound a day (on average). Main thing, your new routine is working, so keep at it!

I'm taking the upper body strength training class at my gym on monday. It's been so long since I've used any equiptment that I need some instruction.
As for swimming, I agree that it would be ideal, but pool access is out of my budget for right now. I might introduce it in a little bit. My doctor is very bullish on the elliptical, and so far the program has been working.
As for my diet, it's actually pretty strictly controlled. here's the link to the basic program:

Here's my blog recording my experiences with the diet:
