Those 2 missing legions of space marines. Everyone knows that they were there, but nobody knows who they were, what they looked like, or why their locker room was filled with bondage gear, stetson hats, and peacock feathers....

Things I've gotten other players to admit...

The AdMech is by no means forgotten.

Nor are ANY of the Space Marine chapters/legions.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I'll agree with you on the first point, but on the second point, I would be solidly forced to give a big, resounding "you're wrong". I do believe that the active expunging of records prior to the Horus Heresy, and subsequent 10,000+ years of administratum monkey-business pretty much guarantees that they have been actively forgotten, not just allowed to pass quietly into the shadows.

When your mere existance hasn't even been vaguely hinted at in the past 9 millenia, and was ERASED because of something that nobody remembers anymore, I'd say that you've been pretty actively forgotten, especially when the successors of these people are completely in the dark about it.

They aren't forgotten.

EVERYONE fething knows about them. And quite a few people PLAY as them.

My favorite IG regiment.

Aren't they the guys that were real gaks to the Tanith first in one of the books in the saint saga?

In the Saint that was the Royal Volpone "Bluebloods"

In The Founding it was the Jantine Patricians.

Vitrian Dragoons were the ones who backed up the Ghosts and wiped out elements of the Patricians when they sought to wipe out the Ghosts.

Vitrian Dragoons are effn hard core!
In my opinion i would have to say its the titan legions. If you consider how much combat they've seen and how much the Imperium owes its life to them they dont get much love game wise considering apoc isnt a huge tourny format. I know it mentions them in the fluff but still, imo it isnt enough

The three most forgotten armies in my opinion are as follows,

The Inquisition: Mostly the whole thing but specifically the Alien Hunters. Does anyone remember when the 4th Edition Rulebook had their Strategy Rating in it but they never came out?

Adeptus Mechanicus: They are one of the most important aspects of the Imperium and yet they still don't have their own codex. Just sad really!

Adeptus Custodes: I know these guys are talked about a lot especially in the Horus Heresy series and I know they aren't really meant to go beyond Earth, but lets all admit it would be pretty sweet to see the defenders of Earth, and the Emperor, on the battlefield maybe as an Elite or Heavy support choice for Space Marines, Imperial Guard, or the Inquisition.

I could see forge world making some really cool mechanicum models, maybe some rules too.

This thread makes no sense. 'Most forgotten' basically means nothing if you actually read books.

"Oh, well, I haven't heard anything about the custodes, so they must not be represented in the fluff, hurrr"

Deathwatch has it's own freaking GAME. How could it possibly be forgotten?

Mechanicus has several books and is mentioned in almost every loyalist book.

Although...Rouge traders could probably use a little more fluff....Most of the good stuff is OOP.

My point! If you didn't read that piece of fluff, you'd have no idea. It's all relative to how much you read.

But other groups, like the mechanicum, do do fight on many worlds. This gives good reason to give them more models for armies, other than enginseers and tech marines.

This. It's a well fleshed out faction yet seems forgotten at times by GW in their model ranges. I was taking the term forgotten armies being a figurative term for what 40k background forces haven't been given much if any product releases.

1. Ordo Sepulturum, I bet nobody has heard of them
2. Carrack Skull Takers (feral humans in fight in the IG)
3. the exorcists, a chapter created by the grey knights, in order to fight daemons, theywould be possessed by a daemon and then cast out (the daemon) then the marines would be imune to possession by daemons in thery, 1% weren't.

Also the Adeptus Arbites do have a fan made codex on bell of lost souls I think, I have it some where on my pc. It was alright, never used it but it was a good read.

Forgotten in fluff and forgotten on the tabletop are completly different.

Anyway, I think the Deathwatch definately need more love on the table as well as the Mordian Iron Guard. Make some plastic models PLEASE!

Thus do we invoke the Machine God.

No, no, and maybe. The Inquisition is not forgotten. Deathwatch most assuredly is not forgotten. The Mechanicus is not even qualified for this thread. The Custodes aren't really forgotten so much as they're just there...

What are Rouge Traders?

I know all about Rogue Traders, who got their own rulebook AND quite recently their own roleplaying game and supplements for it, but I've never heard of Rouge Traders except from fans whom are suspiciously incapable of spelling Rogue.

In which case I point you... here:

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=78

Rogue Traders have their own roleplaying game dedicated entirely to them, produced by Fantasy Flight Games with the assistance of many notable Games Workshop writers and artists. Just like Deathwatch. Enjoy.

Well it would be cool to see more people use them. And i wish GW would make Mechinicaium (I suck at spelling)
Adeptus Artibutes.

Why would they make the Adeptus Mechanicus into the Adeptus Arbites?

The former is basically an organization of overly religious researchers and mechanics, while the latter is basically Judge Dredd in 40k turned up to eleven. Both Arbites and the Techpriests of the Mechanicus, by the way, are playable in Dark Heresy. C:WH and C: DH can have their stormtroopers exchange their hellguns for shotguns and become Arbites.

Yeah, not sure why Mechanicus or Arbites need any rules- the current codex pretty much allows you to do that (Arbites- vets with shotguns, mechanicus- model cyber gubbins on your units) in addition to cult forces, mercenary forces, genestealer cults and private armies. It's modelling, people! Just like the Nova Marines don't need a different codex than UMs.

As for Custodes, they seem to be the wet power dream of marines. But, realistically, they are insignificant as a fighting force. They are too limited in number to deploy, the Emperor is too valuable to spare any, and they are pretty much irreplaceable now, so losses are intolerable. In game terms, they probably wouldn't be significantly better than GKs anyway, who are the elite SM chapter.

I was always under the impression that the Custodes were much more powerful than even Grey Knights. The Custodians constantly beat much, much larger armies and I hardly think the Emperor would have settled for second best when it came to defending himself. I always saw the problem with them being used in an army being that their roles are completly different from Space Marines. They are designed for protection and more political roles such as infiltration and assassination. That being said, they are still strong opponents, but are not the dedicated angels of death that the space marines are.

Thus do we invoke the Machine God.

Thus do we make whole that which was sundered.

I'd love to see you work out how to do "counts as" Purestrains, Patriarch, Broodlord, possessed and summoned daemons from the Guard codex

Speaking of forgotten things... we've had a couple of mentions of the beastmen units (which can be easily represented by Penal squads), but what about the human bombs, Commissar training squads, Guard bikers and Guard assault squads? There are also the occasional mention of armoured transport trucks in the fluff...
