Hey man,

For my guys I'm hitting them with a 2~2.5:1 mix of Adeptus Battlegrey and Chaos Black. Then for my vehicles I used Tamiya TS-48 Gunship Grey, washing the recesses with Badab Black Wash and doing the line highlights with Codex Grey.

Exact recipie.

Did a bit more work on the big lad, got the face to a stage where I am very happy now and it's about the limit of my skills, in what you see I have the axe blades left to do as well as the text on the book, the storm shield arm, scroll cases and loin cloths then he is done!

Got a little work done over the weekend, repainted all of my bolters red, repainted and added some battle damage to the front of my dreadnought, finished the terminator librarian (dakka gallery has made the photo very grainy for some reason), check it:

99% Finished vindicator for my boys. There are a few little things I want to finish then it will get a dullcoat. I've never painted a tank before so I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I guess the idea is it's not an overly old beat up tank, it's taken a bit of fire though and has a fair bit of road/dirt/running grime around the tracks and hatch.

i like your style, Redscorps. I like the stance and the movement you created in your librarian as well, but I think you may try highlighting the blue aura around his eyes to a near white, or an ice blue so it can stand out a bit more. You did such a good job with the glowing eyes, I just feel like you should try to emphasis it a bit more.

Hey man thanks very much it is an ice blue, because of the hood though I have a bit of trouble showing it in these pictures. I really need to get a better, less grainy shot of him.

I am jealous of your modeling skills! All in all I love how the army is turning out. I am thinking of going back now and adding some battle damage to my land raiders and dreadnaughts now. What did you do to make the battle damage? it looks very clean and realisitic

Hey redscorps, just started the same army myself, and took the jump and got the Sevrin set. Something they don't tell you on the site, at least I never saw it (or possibly a seriously massive packing error) is that they toss in a Command Squad set with it. Probably half the reason for the £36 tag (iirc)

It's well worth it though imo, the models are beyond gorgeous in reality. To the point, that I'm scared to paint them as I'll not do them justice. Only got one or two models roughly painted, still trying to work out the grey too use, what colour are you using here? Tried plain Adeptus Battlegrey but it seems a bit bright to me, I saw someone doing Charadon Granite as well, but it looks a bit... weird.

Looking forward to more!

Edit: Just saw your grey mix at the top of the page. Mega fail on my part! Derp derp.

Wow guys thanks for the feedback!

Yeah the back door is a bit over done, I will be abit more careful with the others (I just think the top part looks a bit too mucky), I can't repaint it without it looking like a bag of ass so I will just have to deal with that as part of the first tank I have ever built/painted.

Dave and Marushi, I need that kit! I will order it probably anyway this week as it really is stellar. I didn't realise that you get a full command squad box with it, I can most certainly use all of those parts (plastic apothecary bits are like finding needles in a haystack(ebay)).

I would like to get, well... everything... Hah. I actually bought a gakload of World Eaters gear to revamp my old Khorne army so I will have picks of that at some stage.

Tonight I put togther a Razorback and most of a LRC using the resin Icons set and the LR door set. Nice detail on both of these ones (though the icons are very very thin to the point of having large gaps in some of the background areas).

Snapped a quick pic, oh yeah made a start on the first of my heavy weapon guys for the tac squad, I am swapping out the missile launcher blokes in the squads to plasma cannoneers and having a devastator squad composed of 4 M/L guys.

Once again thanks very much for all of your feedback, I wish I hadn't gone so heavy on the loading ramp of the vindicator but as I said it was the first tank I've ever painted and I had no idea how much was too much so I will just have to live and learn.

Cheers
Jacko

Good evening Dakka,

I haven't been up to much this week, just building actually and getting some stuff ready for gaming and painting.

I built up the LRC, a HB Razorback/Rhino, the land speeder storm with a bootlegged heavy flamer (didn't have anything close and the flamestorm cannon from the LRR is almost as big as the speeder). I just cut two of the regular flamers up, put the tanks on the top and cut the grips off then spliced them on to the pivot that comes with the factory model heavy bolter. My counts as HF.

Mostly just transports this week.. Transport for my 0-1 scout choice, my assault terminators(and their new Chaplain as seen in front of the raider, such a cool model) and a tac squad/combat squad. Will build another vindicator, another razorback/rhino and that is it for vehicles for a while then more painting needs to get done. Though I did see a red scorpions dude over on warseer kitbash himself a red scorpions land raider ares and I am so tempted to get the parts and build one to rumble up next to my LRC.

Click it for a bigger picture:

Ah true!! Yeah I forget that there is a swap/trade side to this hobby, I just tend to buy from bits sites or DIY what I need. Thanks very much though mate I really appreciate the kind offer!

Speaking of DIY, I found some Cities of Death sprues on ebay going for a good price (well I didn't look around so much so now it seems it wasn't such a good price, but no big deal), snatched up 10 of them, just a mix of the random buildings. I didn't check to see if they came with floors and they didn't, so I went on to a bits site, got the floors I needed and have waited a month. No fault of the site but I think they have gotten lost in the post so I cracked today and went and bought some textured plasticard so we could get started.

My buddies and I were getting a bit sick of playing around the grey hills of my board all the time so I got to work today and started building these guys. They actually take a while to put together!! I took a little inspiration from the ones on the GW hobby blog and ad libbed a bit with the other ones.

The small 3 tier one is pretty much done but the manufactorum and the square one need a fair bit more work before it is paint time.

It's nice to do something a bit different anyway.

So I just finished my first Razorback and am pretty happy with the result, over all they are pretty quick to paint but the yellow is what slows down the process, many many coats of very thin paint to avoid brush marks on my model.

I've thrown a few pics up with it, a squad and the vindicator. 'Search Party' as usual, click to zoom:

niece looking. only one thing why are the gun holes mostly on one side? plus the sides of the transfer are really visable on the pics. you can really see where you cut them you know the parts that should be transparent. is it just these pics or are they this in real life too?

It's picking up the light funny with the decals, it's a shame but this is even after I have put a testors dullcoat over it. I read about a product that is used for blending decals in so I will try and get some of that and see if it works. It doesn't actually bother me as 95% of the time they are never under this much light and then edges are invisible. It's just the GW Decals not playing the game for the photographs.

And as far as the bullet holes go, I imagined this tank to have been flanking up the side of the battlefield and having been ranked with bolter/shoota fire by a squad of plague marines/boyz(my two arch rivals) so it has damage on the left front 1/4, side and rear 1/4 to represent this. I think it would be pretty unusual to have bullet holes completely around and I was going for a bit of a different look with this one (using a bolter sized drill bit) as opposed to the vindicator which has taken some heavier fire (using an autocannon sized drill bit).

Thanks for the comments.

Thanks mate, I'm getting there. Nothing is really planned with them but when I see the clean nice vehicle, pre-priming, it just doesn't look right. So out come the drill bits and the scalpel.
