Huh, I always interpreted them as a joke, as making Movie Marines an official army would be bad for them. Why spend lots of money on bunches of Marines, and even more on fancy tanks if you can play Movie Marines and get a whole army with just 10 Marines? It doesn't make sense for GW to do this seriously...

Ok ok, heres a funny one.
In a 2v2 game versus a friend, he hid a wraithlord behind a tree the size of a toothpick. This tree was part of area terrain. The wraithlord was clearly visible. When we tried to shoot the wraithlord, our dear friend says
"You cant do that"
"Why"
"Its dense foilage" (yes he said foilage, not foliage)
"um..what?"
he then went on to explain that the area terrain (it was the battlescape area terrain from gw) symbolised dense foilage, trees that were higher than the wraithlord, and you could not fire through at all.
We said what about TLOS? we can see right through the area terrain, which is really just a bunch of craters, so we can shoot.
He got super angry, but we gave him a 4+ cover save, and promptly killed the wraithlord.
Its turn 5, and our allied monolith is behind the area terrain. He attempts to shoot it, at which point we say
"Its dense foilage, its higher than the monolith"
He got so angry I laughed like a schoolgirl.

Some really original (and funny) ones here, I will have to think about creating some of my own...
Particularly like the Imploding Marines. Good Times.

A local SM player used to have a chapter painted in Shining Gold and Mithril Silver. He decided this entitled him to a rule in which you had to play as if it was night fighting to target any of his units while he himself did not. For 0 more points.

At our local club, there are some kids who have completely misunderstood the rules. They said a missile launcher penetrates a Leman Russ' front armour on a 2+ and that you could throw frag grenades as a 12" range frag missile and likewise with krak. Their army had about six HQs and five heavy support choices. They refused to battle one of my friends because he had more tanks than them and they said it was unfair; we told them it was equal points values and they said points don't matter, it's how powerful the tanks are that matters. They also thought it was unfair that my guardsmen outnumbered space marines! They also have a habit of going through other peoples' cases and if they find something they like, they decide it's theirs and they can take it.

I'd call that less 'custom rules' and more 'blatant TFG(s) level cheating'......How old are these kids? 10?
