Even better, if you hit someone on the head with a spear just right, it bends round and smacks them on the arse as well.

Yes, it was a reference to Sienfield. You can even see the card with Jerry wearing it.

Actually that's the good thing about larpers. They usually have cooler hats than everyone else. So they're okay in my book.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I used to laugh at larpers fighting with foam swords I would see in a park as I drove to my FLGS for a game.

Then my wife pointed out to me the irony of this, and laughed at me in turn.

Solution: take a different street to the FLGS.

It would probably be fun, as laser tag can be. It's when you take it too far, and shout ''MANA POTION MANA!!" that makes me not want to.

I mean come on, hitting other humans and killing them but not really killing them? Anger reliever.

It's okay, Monster. Just remember it's what's on the inside that counts, man, the inside.

We personaly haven't but mainly as we felt they are too young, maybe in the future we will.

But in the past I have seen plenty of kids wih their parents, the funiest for me as a member of the Tarantula's faction (underdark related.) I remember a couple of kiddies fully dressed as Drow, hitting guards with child sized (but still top quality crafted) Larp Maces because their mother was one of the Drow House leaders.

That was an age ago mind, they'd be late teenagers by now if they still attend.

I think it actually depends on the LARP group.
I took part is some that were awesome, one in particular was a White Wolf combined Larp that took place in a multilevel bar. Also been in one that was so lame I left out of sheer boredom.

As for the SCA.;.... what a bunch of whiney girls. I have been "invited to not join", TWICE, mainly because I know how to actually fight with a halberd. They apparently frown on things like tripping and using the haft to poke someone.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

Yeeaaaaah, and I bet LARPers are a bit more fit than your average 40k gamer.

I've actually seen stuff like this before, but never gotten into it, despite the fact that it looks like ridiculous amounts of fun!

Yeah I don't get why so many people dis LARPing, when it looks like oodles of fun. Who doesn't like smacking people in ridiculous costumes with foam weapons, camping, getting outside, meeting new people (and girls ), dressing up, socializing

and running around, sure you may look silly but at least you're having a lot of fun. I also think a lot of the media (such as movies) that makes fun of LARPing might be influencing quite a few of people's opinions.

Yeah people give just alittle too much of a crap about what other people think.

I saw a show about dagohir on the history channel a little while back and I showed it to a friend who thought it looked, and I qoute, "So fething awesome" yet when I proposed actually trying to get a group together to do it, he didn't want to look like an "idiot running around with a toy sword".

If anything, most people would just be jealous that they didn't have the balls to do it themselves.

I played airsoft for a while, and viewed that as a different kind of LARPing. It is essentially the same. Replace swords and maces with rifles and pistols, chainmail with a tactical vest, and lines of battle with squad level tactics. You've still pretending to be a fighting man (or women), though from a different from a different era.

I've wanted to make the jump to medival/fantasy LARP for a while. Now that I'm in the Bay Area, I suppose I could possibly find a group.

Children are to be avoided if you value your character. Broken (portrayed by my friend Adam) was one of the meanest, toughest hombres you never want to meet on the field (seriously. He took down 30 opponents on his own. His character is mental hard) and he nearly got jobbed off a 5 year old girl. Dressed as a fairy. Moral of the story? When the 5 year old pulls a knife on you, either clock them one or run in the opposite direction. VERY quickly. He seriously had 8 hits per (yeah...my character has one hit per. Squishy funtimes!). And she just. kept. stabbing. him. Then pinched all his Gold. If it wasn't for his Regeneration (hurrah for being a Troll!) that would have been a most ignoble end to one of the games greatest killers.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

i much prefer living history re-enactment to cosplay or LARP in any of its forms. Frankly I wouldn't be caught dead at the Lorien Trust or equivalent neither would most re-enactors I know.

If you want to dress up try a living history unit with a good rep, preferably one doing an early or pre-gunpowder period. Its far more rewarding, has a lot of stereet cred and you can use stell weapons without the kiddies gettin in the way.

I think Dark Age is about the best era to go for, lots of good stuff, cheap to make and an interesting time to re-enact as even many major events were carried out by small forces.

I have sparred with larpers with their larp weapons, and its fun as a play about, but dressing up FRPG, no thanks. Lorien Trust crap on top, double no thanks; and as for paying seventy odd quid to hang out with the two faced clique of saddos that make up most of the Gathering. I would sooner have surgery without anaesthetic.

I would half mind if it were not so clique-y and self important and sad rolled into one. Dressing uop and having a bash should be having a good time, but the factions crap takes a lot of that away. Maybe I was talking to too many former Harts and Griffons maybe not.

Besides it just cannot hold a candle to a good bash with steel weapons, in or out of costume.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
